Programming effects of maternal stress on the circadian system of adult offspring

Maternal stress has long-lasting influences on the brain functions of offspring, and several brain regions have been proposed to mediate such programming. Although perinatal programming of crosstalk between the circadian and stress systems has been proposed, the functional consequences of prenatal stress on the circadian system and the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Therefore, we investigated whether exposing pregnant mice to chronic restraint stress had prolonged effects on the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), which bears the central pacemaker for mammalian circadian rhythms, of offspring. SCN explants from maternally stressed mice exhibited altered cyclic expression patterns of a luciferase reporter under control of the mouse Per1 promoter (mPer1::LUC), which manifested as a decreased amplitude and impaired stability of the rhythm. Bioluminescence imaging at the single-cell level subsequently revealed that impaired synchrony among individual cells was responsible for the impaired rhythmicity. These intrinsic defects appeared to persist during adulthood. Adult male offspring from stressed mothers showed advanced-phase behavioral rhythms with impaired stability as well as altered clock gene expression in the SCN. In addition to affecting the central rhythm, maternal stress also had prolonged influences on the circadian characteristics of the adrenal gland and liver, as determined by circulating corticosterone levels and hepatic glycogen content, and on canonical clock gene mRNA expression in those tissues. Taken together, our findings suggest that the SCN is a key target of the programming effects of maternal stress. The widespread effects of circadian disruptions caused by a misprogrammed clock may have further impacts on metabolic and mental health in later life.

최근 벚나무에 벚나무깍지벌레에 의한 피해가 증가하여 친환경적인 방제제로서 곤충병원성 곰팡이인 Beauveria bassiana ARP14를 검증하였다. 경북 안동시 안동대학교 캠퍼스 내 벚나무에서 벚나무깍지벌레의 감염율을 조사하고, 벚나무의 연령을 추정하여 상관관계를 분석하였다. 곤충병원성 곰팡이의 살충력을 확인하 기 위해 약충의 이동성이 가장 활발한 4월 말부터 5월 중순까지 벚나무깍지벌레에 감염된 가지를 채집하여 23°C 의 항온기에 보관하면서 두 가지 곤충병원성 곰팡이(ARP14, AAD16)를 살포하여 살충제(스피로테트라맛 액상 수화제) 처리구와 살충률을 비교하였다. 그 결과 대조구(물처리)보다 곤충병원성 곰팡이를 살포한 가지에서 약충의 개체 수가 더 감소하였으나, 살충제를 처리한 가지에서 보다는 약충의 수가 많았다. 따라서 가로수로 많이 식재된 벚나무 해충 방제시 일어날 수 있는 사람에 대한 피해를 최소화할 수 있는 친환경 방제제로서 곤충병 원성 곰팡이를 사용할 수 있을 것이다.

Although the Act on the Prevention of Light Pollution Due to Artificial Lighting has been enforced since 2013, the area of advertisement lighting has made slow progress in solving the problems of light pollution. This paper first investigated institutional problems by analyzing domestic laws and regulations relating to the light pollution of advertisement lighting, and investigated and analyzed methods for reducing light pollution that were applied in overseas countries. Then, problems of light pollution were analyzed by conducting a research on the actual status of advertisement lightings installed in South Korea and applying various methods for reducing light pollution, and advertisement lighting using LED was recommended. As a method for reducing light pollution that can be applied to the process of manufacturing channel letter-type advertisement lights, power consumption per unit area (W/㎡) was proposed, and 100W/㎡ was recommended as a value currently suitable for South Korea.

Open―domain question answering (QA) is a natural language processing (NLP) task that predicts an answer to the given question with knowledge base. It is an intriguing and challenging NLP task that requires multiple parts of NLP. Generally, open―domain QA models consist of information retrieval models, which select the related information in the knowledge base, and a machine reader, which generates an answer based on the question and selected information. Thus, the information retrieval models have significant effects on performance and efficiency of the open―domain QA model. In this paper, to Investigate performance and requirements of the information retrieval model, we analysis the retrieval models in open―domain QA tasks. With various experiments, we showed the retrieval performance on the various configurations. In addition, we provides hardware requirements for the retrieval model including model size, required amount of data load, and operations.
