        러시아의 캄차카 원정대에 대한 고찰

        강성희 ( Kang¸ Seonghee ) 연세대학교 유럽사회문화연구소 2020 유럽사회문화 Vol.0 No.25

This paper examines the historical background and overall exploration process of the 1st Kamchatka Expedition (1725-1730) and the 2nd Kamchatka Expedition (1733-1742) and aims to highlight the meaning of the expedition. The task of the first expedition was to determine whether Asia and America were connected or separated. The leader of the expedition was V. Bering. A. Chirikov and M. Spangberg were appointed as his assistants. They spent first two years on traveling from Saint Petersburg to Okhotsk. They moved from Okhotsk to Nizhnekamchatsk and sailed north and then north-east along the shore, exploring Kresta Bay, Gulf of Anadyr, and St. Lawrence Island. They passed the Bering Strait between Asia and the Americas, but the thick fog prevented them from seeing America with their own eyes. This led Bering to propose the second expedition to Kamchatka. The 2nd expedition had been a long-term project that took 10 years. Again, V. Bering was the leader of the expedition and A. Chirikov and M. Spanberg assisted him. Representative achievements of the expedition include the discovery of Alaska, Aleutian Islands, Commander Islands and Bering Islands, as well as detailed mapping of the northern and northeastern coasts of Russia and the Kuril Islands. In addition, the academic portion of the expedition, which conducted ethnographic, historical and scientific studies of the Siberia and Kamchatka regions are noteworthy. Their achievements provide an academic foundation for future researchers.

        A Proposed Korean Common Confession

Seonghee Chae 한국민중신학회 2014 Madang: Journal of Contextual Theology Vol.0 No.22

Korean churches need to express faith in language meaningful for our context Not only churches in Korea, but all churches in the world, so that Korean churches are able to make enriched communication with churches about confessional articulation, an issue developing and seeking resolution in many parts of the world. In this paper, I have suggested a viable Korean common confession concerning Korean context. My proposed faith statement includes the issues of the visible unity of the Korean church, Christian solidarity, Korean church as the universal ecumenical family. It aims to alleviate tensions brought on by gender-laden language, and to express Jesus as peacermaker concerning socio-economic, and political situation of Korea. The confession further recognizes the Holy Spirit who blesses us by absolutely releasinghan-ridden life of Korea. Christian faith cannot be separated from the dynamic life among society. I dream the my proposed common confession of Korean churches contribute to communicate the core of the gospel with context we live. So that the kingdom of Christ is to be established in peace in Korea.

A Case Study of Korean EFL Teachers" Small Group Work

        Seonghee Choi(최성희),Jeongsoon Joh(조정순) 한국외국어교육학회 2007 Foreign languages education Vol.14 No.4

This case study examined 10 Korean English teachers who were involved in small group work (SGW) for the purpose of improving their own English language proficiency. Their beliefs about and practices of SGW were closely observed as they actually went through a SGW. A total of 10 teachers (three groups) teaching at elementary or middle schools participated in the SGWs for one year. In the SGWs they were supposed to meet once a week in groups, give a presentation in English on a selected topic, and discuss the topics presented. Throughout the research period, they were interviewed and surveyed periodically. The result of the study showed that teachers generally had positive beliefs about SGWs and were very willing to go on with it in the same way they used to or in a little modified way. Especially, the teachers revealed strong conviction that the most powerful aspect of SGW was that it kept them motivated to continue learning, which has rarely been the case when they tried to study individually.

      • Development of Wheeled Inverted Pendulum Type Personal Mobility with Pedal

        Seonghee Jeong,Yuji Masuda,Yutaka Hiroi,Takayuki Takahashi,Osamu Matsumoto 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10

In this paper, the mechanism and basic driving function of a wheeled inverted pendulum-type personal mobility with a pedal (Wi-PMP) are described. The mobility consists of a wheeled inverted pendulum-type mobile platform and a leg rowing mechanism, and thus it can be driven by a rider’s leg rowing motion. Moreover, to retain the merits of pivot turning of a parallel two-wheeled mobility, a differential gear box and a one-way clutch are installed between the pedal and the wheel shafts. It is designed such that a rider can ground his feet while sitting on the saddle. In addition, the Wi-PMP is compact and light-weight, and thus it can be driven and parked in a narrow space. Through experiments using three types of driving mode(motor driving, pedal driving, and assist driving), it was confirmed that mobility can realize all driving modes and pivot turning while keeping the feet of the rider on the pedals.

Developing English Discourse Competence through Self-directed Practices of Non-native English Teachers

        Seonghee Choi,Jeongsoon Joh,Yoan Lee 한국영어어문교육학회 2008 영어어문교육 Vol.14 No.2

The purpose of this study is to present a model for the teachers to develop English discourse competence needed at English classrooms, and to build a basis on which to offer quality English teaching in the formal education without depending upon native speakers. A total of 30 teachers participated in this study. The participants met in group once a week, and had 10-15 minutes" presentation each. Their presentation was recorded and sent to the researchers for analysis. Three conferences were held to motivate and guide the participants, and the researchers visited each team twice to encourage the participants and check the research procedures. Two surveys were conducted to gather data about the beliefs of the participants while engaged in this project. The findings include the participants" self-perceived improvement, to a varying degree, in speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary and even in structural knowledge as a result of incidental learning. Also the participants showed increased self-confidence in teaching English, as well as more spontaneous and lengthened speech as the project went on. It is hoped that the findings from this project will provide insights on the areas of teacher cooperation, teachers" self-directed development, reflective teaching, using English as the media of instruction, and teacher training programs.

Development of Gas Chromatography/ Mass Spectrometry for the Determination of Essential Fatty Acids in Food Supplemental Oil Products

        ( Seonghee Ahn ),( Yoon-hyung Yim ),( Byungjoo Kim ) 한국질량분석학회 2013 Mass spectrometry letters Vol.4 No.4

A gas chromatography/ mass spectrometric (GC/MS) method was developed as a candidate reference method for the accurate determination of essential fatty acids (linoleic acid, α- and γ-linolenic acids) in food supplemental oil products. Samples were spiked with three internal standards (stearic acid-d35, 13C18-linoleic acid, and 13C18-α-linolenic acid). Samples were then subject to saponification, derivatization for methylation, and extraction by organic solvent. For GC/MS measurement, an Agilent HP-88 column, designed for the separation of fatty acid methyl esters, was selected after comparing with other columns as it provided better separation for target analytes. Target analytes and internal standards were detected by selected ion monitoring of molecular ions of their methyl ester forms. The GC/MS method was applied for the measurement of three botanical oils in NIST SRM 3274 (borage oil, evening primrose oil, and flax oil), and measurement results agreed with the certified values. Measurement results for target analytes which have corresponding isotope-labeled analogues as internal standard were calculated based on isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) approach, and compared with results calculated by using the other two internal standards. Results from the IDMS approach and the typical internal standard approach were in good agreement within their measurement uncertainties. It proves that the developed GC/MS method can provide similar metrological quality with IDMS methods for the measurement of fatty acids in natural oil samples if a proper fatty acid is used as an internal standard.

Autophagy as a decisive process for cell death

Seonghee Jung,정현정,유성운 생화학분자생물학회 2020 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.52 No.-

Autophagy is an intracellular catabolic pathway in which cellular constituents are engulfed by autophagosomes and degraded upon autophagosome fusion with lysosomes. Autophagy serves as a major cytoprotective process by maintaining cellular homeostasis and recycling cytoplasmic contents. However, emerging evidence suggests that autophagy is a primary mechanism of cell death (autophagic cell death, ACD) and implicates ACD in several aspects of mammalian physiology, including tumor suppression and psychological disorders. However, little is known about the physiological roles and molecular mechanisms of ACD. In this review, we document examples of ACD and discuss recent progress in our understanding of its molecular mechanisms.
