      • Mass Production and Diapause of Trichogramma in Dissected Eggs of Chinese Tussah Moth

        Trichogramma is widely used in biological control of many Lepidoptera insect pests in the world. Although many species of host eggs, e.g. Sitotroga cerealela, Corcyra cephalonica, Ephestia kuehniella, Mamestra brassicae and even artificial host eggs are explored in mass production of Trichogramma, eggs dissected from the ovaries in female of Chinese (Oak) tussah moth (Antheraea pernyi) are still the most popular host eggs in China. Here I introduce technology processes of Trichogramma mass production that are popularly used in China, including: 1) selecting female cocoons from mixed sexes commercial cocoons, 2) cold storage of cocoons, 3) warming up the cocoons, 4) collecting female moths and dissecting ovaries, 5) separating, washing and drying host eggs, 6) multiplying Trichogramma with the host eggs, 7) producing Trichogramma products, i.e. the host egg cards, 8) storing Trichogramma under low temperatures, 9) releasing Trichogramma in the field. Nevertheless, problems are frequently encountered in these processes, e.g. high mortality of long-term storage and multiplying too many generations etc. To solve these problems and explore a method for long-term storage, we studied the diapause of T. dendrolimi in detail. We found that the optimal processes for diapause induction were exposing hosts for parasitization at 26℃ for 8 h before keeping them at 26℃ for another 40 h, and finally moving them into 10℃ for 4 weeks. The optimal processes for diapause termination were setting the diapause Trichogramma under 1℃ for two months and then exposing them at 26℃ until their emergence.

        Using Chlorophyll Fluorescence and Vegetation Indices to Predict the Timing of Nitrogen Demand in Pentas lanceolata

        The objective of this study was to predict the timing of nitrogen (N) demand through analyzing chlorophyll fluorescence (ChlF), soil-plant analysis development (SPAD), and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), which are positively correlated with foliar N concentration in star cluster (Pentas lanceolata). The plants were grown in potting soil under optimal conditions for 30 d, followed by weekly irrigation with five concentrations (0, 4, 8, 16, and 24 mM) of N for an additional 30 d. These five N application levels corresponded to leaf N concentrations of 2.62, 3.48, 4.00, 4.23, and 4.69%, respectively. We measured 13 morphological and physiological parameters, as well as the responses of these parameters to various N-fertilizer treatments. The general increases in Dickson’s quality index (DQI), above-ground dry weight (DW), total DW, flowering rate, △F/Fm’, and qP in response to t reatment with 0 to 8 mM N were similar to those of SPAD, NDVI, and Fv/Fm. Consistent and s trong correlations (R² = 0.60 to 0.85) were observed between leaf N concentration (%) and SPAD, NDVI, △F/Fm’, and above-ground DW. Validation of leaf S PAD, NDVI, and △F/Fm’ revealed that these vegetation indices are accurate predictors of leaf N concentration that can be used for non-destructive estimation of the proper timing for N-solution irrigation of P. lanceolata. Moreover, irrigation with 8 mM N-fertilizer i s recommended w hen leaf N concentration, SPAD, NVDI, and △F/Fm’ ratios are reduced from their saturation values of 4.00, 50.68, 0.64, and 0.137%, respectively.

        In this paper, the authors investigate the structure of opera-tors similar to normaloid and transloid operators. In particular, we char-acterize the interior of the set of operators similar to normaloid (transloid,respectively) operators. This gives a concise spectral condition to deter-mine when an operator is similar to a normaloid or transloid operator. Also it is proved that any Hilbert space operator has a compact pertur-bation with transloid property. This is used to give a negative answer to a problem posed by W. Y. Lee, concerning Weyl's theorem.

        Guanylate-kinase-associated protein (GKAP) is a scaffolding protein that links NMDA receptor-PSD-95 to Shank-Homer complexes by protein-protein interactions at the synaptic junction. GKAP family proteins are characterized by the presence of a C-terminal conserved GKAP homology domain 1 (GH1) of unknown structure and function. In this study. crystal structure of the GHl domain of GKAP from Rattus norvegicus was determined in fusion with an N-terminal maltose-binding protein at 2.0 A resolution. The structure of GKAP GHl displays a three-helix bundle connected by short flexible loops. The predicted helix ot4 which was not visible in the crystal structure associates weakly with the helix ot3 suggesting dynamic nature of the GHl domain. The strict conservation of GHl domain across GKAP family members and the lack of a catalytic active site required for enzyme activity imply that the GHl domain might serve as a protein-protein interaction module for the synaptic protein clustering. ⓒ 2014 Elsevier Inc.         Real-time structural damage detection using wireless sensing and monitoring system

        A wireless sensing system is designed for application to structural monitoring and damage detection applications. Embedded in the wireless monitoring module is a two-tier prediction model, the auto-regressive (AR) and the autoregressive model with exogenous inputs (ARX), used to obtain damage sensitive features of a structure. To validate the performance of the proposed wireless monitoring and damage detection system, two near full scale single-story RC-frames, with and without brick wall system, are instrumented with the wireless monitoring system for real time damage detection during shaking table tests. White noise and seismic ground motion records are applied to the base of the structure using a shaking table. Pattern classification methods are then adopted to classify the structure as damaged or undamaged using time series coefficients as entities of a damage-sensitive feature vector. The demonstration of the damage detection methodology is shown to be capable of identifying damage using a wireless structural monitoring system. The accuracy and sensitivity of the MEMS-based wireless sensors employed are also verified through comparison to data recorded using a traditional wired monitoring system.

        GENERALIZED WEYL'S THEOREM FOR FUNCTIONS OF OPERATORS AND COMPACT PERTURBATIONS

        Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a complex separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space. In this paper, a necessary and sufficient condition is given for an operator T on $\mathcal{H}$ to satisfy that $f(T)$ obeys generalized Weyl's theorem for each function $f$ analytic on some neighborhood of ${\sigma}(T)$. Also we investigate the stability of generalized Weyl's theorem under (small) compact perturbations.

      • Meta Analysis of Treatment for Stage IE~IIE Extranodal Natural Killer /T Cell Lymphomas in China

        Objective: To evaluate early treatment for extranodal natural killer/T cell lymphoma (ENK/TCL) in China and provide reference for clinical treatment of these patients. Methods: Computer-based retrieval was performed in PubMed, CNKI, CBM, VIP and WanFang Data to search for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of treatment for early ENK/TCL, and a meta-analysis was conducted with RevMan 5.0 software. Results: A total of 11 RCTs, including 871 patients, were selected, of which the first radiotherapy had a higher complete response (CR) than the first chemotherapy [OR=14.16, 95%CI (8.68, 23.10), P<0.00001] and CR was not different between combined treatment group and radiotherapy group [OR=1.86, 95%CI (0.47, 3.58), P=0.61], but long-term survival rate was higher with combined treatment[OR=1.88, 95%CI (1.09, 3.19), P=0.02]. No difference in survival rate was observed between radio-chemotherapy and chemo-radiotherapy groups [OR=1.11, 95%CI (0.73, 1.69), P=0.63]. Conclusions: Radiotherapy is of great significance in the treatment of early ENK/TCL, but combined therapy could further enhance long-term survival rate of patients. This conclusion still requires further confirmation using RCTs with high quality and large sample size.

        Development of a Cycling Safety Services System and Its Deep Learning Bicycle Crash Model

        This research developed an Internet of things (IoT)services system for cyclists to keep them safe when cycling –from terminal to back end – called the cycling safety servicessystem. The proposed system consists of wearable devices, aservice mobile app, and back-end services, primarily providingthree categories of services: (1) The cycling team services, (2)the physiological status services, and (3) the environmental informationservice, incorporating the technologies of deep learning,IoT end device development, mobile app programming, RESTfulAPI implementation, open data exploitation, etc. The proposedsystem aims at protecting the cyclists from being left out whencycling as a team, warning them when their physiological statusis going to be abnormal or when there is a possibility of a bicyclecrash, as well as proactively sending out urgent messages withlocation information when a crash occurs. Moreover, to enablethe mobile app to recognize crash events, this research traineda deep learning bicycle crash model of 87.8049% accuracy andimplemented a procedure in the mobile app based on this modelto detect bicycle crashes automatically. The proposed system alsoprovides a way for the cyclists to report any false crash alarm sothat the crash model can be re-trained to reduce its false alarmratio after the system is distributed to the consumers in thefuture. This research confirmed that the proposed system workswell, and suggests that the proposed system, the crash model, thedata collection method with its associated mobile apps, and theanonymous crash locations collected in the future can be valuableand contribute to the cycling society and relevant researchers ina positive way.
