A 3-DOF forced vibration system for time-domain aeroelastic parameter identification
Heather Scot Sauder,Partha P. Sarkar 한국풍공학회 2017 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.24 No.5
A novel three-degree-of-freedom (DOF) forced vibration system has been developed for identification of aeroelastic (self-excited) load parameters used in time-domain response analysis of wind-excited flexible structures. This system is capable of forcing sinusoidal motions on a section model of a structure that is used in wind tunnel aeroelastic studies along all three degrees of freedom - along-wind, cross-wind, and torsional - simultaneously or in any combination thereof. It utilizes three linear actuators to force vibrations at a consistent frequency but varying amplitudes between the three. This system was designed to identify all the parameters, namely, aeroelastic- damping and stiffness that appear in self-excited (motion-dependent) load formulation either in time-domain (rational functions) or frequency-domain (flutter derivatives). Relatively large displacements (at low frequencies) can be generated by the system, if required. Results from three experiments, airfoil, streamlined bridge deck and a bluff-shaped bridge deck, are presented to demonstrate the functionality and robustness of the system and its applicability to multiple cross-section types. The system will allow routine identification of aeroelastic parameters through wind tunnel tests that can be used to predict response of flexible structures in extreme and transient wind conditions.

The rate of reaction of chlicheamiciny Ⅰ with 2-aminoethanethioⅠ at pH=7.4 in the presence of DNA was found to be approximately one order of magnitude greater than the rate in the absence of DNA. This result is consistent with the hypothesis of base catalysis of thiol activation by DNA. The products from reactions in the presence of DNA were different than from reactions in the absence of DNA. A speculative rational is that chlicheamicin is activated while bound to DNA and affords a different product distribution than calicheamiciny Ⅰactivated free in solution.

The unicellular marine red alga Erythrolobus australicus sp. nov. (Porphyridiophyceae) was isolated into laboratory culture from mangroves in Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. The single multi-lobed red to rose-red plastid has more than one pyrenoid and lacks a peripheral thylakoid. Arrays of small electron dense globules occur along the thylakoids. The nucleus is peripheral with a central to eccentric nucleolus. Each Golgi body is associated with a mitochondrion. The spherical cells are positively phototactic with slow gliding movement. The psaA + psbA phylogeny clearly showed that E. australicus is a distinct species, which is closely related to E. coxiae. The chemotaxonomically relevant and most abundant low molecular weight carbohydrate in E. australicus is floridoside with concentrations between 209 and 231 ${\mu}mol g^{-1}$ dry weight. Traces of digeneaside were also detected. These various approaches help to understand the taxonomic diversity of unicellular red algae.

Purpose: There are no sufficient data on the correlation between inter-arm blood pressure (BP) difference and coronary atherosclerosisfound using coronary artery calcium score (CACS). We aimed to investigate if the increased difference in inter-arm BP is independently associated with severity of CACS. Materials and Methods: Patients who had ≥3 cardiovascular risk factors or an intermediate Framingham Risk Score (FRS; ≥10) were enrolled. Inter-arm BP difference was defined as the absolute difference in BP in both arms. Quantitative CACS was measuredby using coronary computed tomography angiography with the scoring system. Results: A total of 261 patients were included in this study. Age (r=0.256, p<0.001), serum creatinine (r=0.139, p=0.030), mean of right arm systolic BP (SBP; r=0.172, p=0.005), mean of left arm SBP (r=0.190, p=0.002), inter-arm SBP difference (r=0.152, p=0.014), and the FRS (r=0.278, p<0.001) showed significant correlation with CACS. The increased inter-arm SBP difference (≥6 mm Hg) was significantly associated with CACS ≥300 [odds ratio (OR) 2.17, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.12–4.22; p=0.022]. In multivariableanalysis, the inter-arm SBP difference ≥6 mm Hg was also significantly associated with CACS ≥300 after adjusting for clinical risk factors (OR 2.34, 95 % CI 1.06–5.19; p=0.036). Conclusion: An increased inter-arm SBP difference (≥6 mm Hg) is associated with coronary atherosclerotic disease burden using CACS, and provides additional information for predicting severe coronary calcification, compared to models based on traditional risk factors.

Purpose: This study compared the impact of paclitaxel-coated balloons (PCB) or drug eluting stents (DES) on peri-procedural myocardial infarction (PMI) on de novo coronary lesion in stable patients. Materials and Methods: In this observational study, we compared the incidence of PMI amongst patients with single vessel de novo coronary lesions who underwent treatment with a PCB or DES. Propensity score-matching analysis was used to assemble a cohort of patients with similar baseline characteristics. PMI was classified as myocardial infarction occurring within 48 hours afterpercutaneous coronary intervention with a threshold of 5 x the 99th percentile upper reference limit of normal for creatine kinase-myocardial band (CK-MB) or troponin T (TnT). Results: One hundred four patients (52 receiving PCB and 52 receiving DES) were enrolled in this study. The peak mean values of CK-MB and TnT were significantly higher in the DES group. There was a significantly higher rate of PMI in the DES group (23.1% vs. 1.9%, p=0.002). Total occlusion of the side-branch occurred in two patients treated with DES, while no patients treated with PCB. In multivariable analysis, DES was the only independent predictor of PMI compared with PCB (odds ratio 42.85, 95% confidenceinterval: 3.44–533.87, p=0.004). Conclusion: Treatment with a PCB on de novo coronary lesion might be associated with a significant reduction in the risk of PMI compared to DES.

Purpose: Dissection after plain balloon angioplasty is required to achieve adequate luminal area; however, it is associated with ahigh risk of vascular events. This study aimed to examine the relationship between non-flow limiting coronary dissections andsubsequent lumen loss and long-term clinical outcomes following successful drug-coated balloon (DCB) treatment of de novocoronary lesions. Materials and Methods: A total of 227 patients with good distal flow (Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction flow grade 3) followingDCB treatment were retrospectively enrolled and stratified according to the presence or absence of a non-flow limiting dissection. The primary endpoint was late lumen loss (LLL) at 6-month angiography, and the secondary endpoint was target vesselfailure (TVF, a composite of cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction, target vessel revascularization, and target vesselthrombosis). Results: The cohort consisted of 95 patients with and 132 patients without a dissection. There were no between-group differencesin LLL (90.8%) returning for angiography at 6 months (0.05±0.19 mm in non-dissection and 0.05±0.30 mm in dissection group, p=0.886) or in TVF (6.8% in non-dissection and 8.4% in dissection group, p=0.799) at a median follow-up of 3.4 years. In a multivariateanalysis, the presence of dissection and its severity were not associated with LLL or TVF. Almost dissections (93.9%) were completelyhealed, and there was no newly developed dissection at 6-month angiography. Conclusion: The presence of a dissection following successful DCB treatment of a de novo coronary lesion may not be associatedwith an increased risk of LLL or TVF (Impact of Drug-coated Balloon Treatment in de Novo Coronary Lesion; NCT04619277).
