Zoledronic acid has been used for prevention of osteolytic and osteoblastic bone metastasis. This case report illustrates an undesirableconsequence from prolonged usage of zoledronic acid in bone metastasis prevention. Periprosthetic acetabular fracturein a patient treated with zoledronic acid for 7 years was reported. The clinical presentation, radiographic and pathological resultswere described. This is a rare complication after total hip arthroplasty which should not be ignored especially in patients who receivedlong term bisphosphonate
Detection of Flood Areas Using Remote Sensing Data : The Case Study of Thailand
Saran Onuan,Panwit Tuwanut 대한전자공학회 2015 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2015 No.6
Located in the tropical zone where heavy rain and flood frequently occur, Thailand has usually been experiencing losses caused by flood. To mitigate the damage, the nation-wide flood detection is necessary. This study examines the application of using remote sensing data for flood detection. It is found that the result from NDVI computation can indicate the flood area. The further development will be conducted to extend its application in crop insurance and other disaster detection programs.
Some Distribution Results on Random Walk with Unspecified Terminus
Saran, Jagdish,Bansal, Sarita The Korean Statistical Society 2001 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.30 No.3
This paper deals with the distributions of certain characteristics related to a symmetric random walk of an steps ending at an unspecified position, thus generalizing and extending the earlier work.
Moments of Order Statistics from Doubly Truncated Linear-Exponential Distribution
Saran, Jagdish,Pushkarna, Narinder The Korean Statistical Society 1999 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.28 No.3
In this paper we establish some recurrence relations for both single and product moments of order statistics from a doubly truncated linear- exponential distribution with increasing hazard rate. These recurrence relations would enable one to compute all the higher order moments of order statistics for all sample sizes from those of the lower order in a simple recursive way. In addition, percentage points of order statistics are also discussed. These generalize the corresponding results for the linear- exponential distribution with increasing hazard rate derived by Balakrishnan and Malik(1986)

Garnet type solid electrolyte Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) is the most promising candidate among solid electrolytes for all solid state Li batteries. In this work, small amount of Nd doping (5%–20%) to the garnet structure is proposed to improve its ionic conductivity. Nd doped garnet type solid electrolytes for Li-ion batteries were synthesized through a conventional solid state reaction method. The effect of Nd doping on the microstructure, morphology and ionic conductivity of the LLZO was studied by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. Instead of La whose valence is similar to that of Nd, XRD and Raman analyzes revealed that Nd takes the place of the higher valence element Zr. In order to compensate the valence difference, the ratio of Li increases in the structure. On the other side, results showed that Nd doped LLZO samples formed as a mixture of both tetragonal and cubic phases. According to EIS measurements, among the prepared samples, 5% Nd doped LLZO exhibits the highest ionic conductivity of 2.47 × 10-6 S cm-1 at room temperature.
Contrast Enhanced Ultrasonography and CT Features of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor in a Dog
Saran Chhoey,Soyeon Kim,Kroesna Kang,Sath Keo,최지혜 한국임상수의학회 2023 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.40 No.5
A large abdominal mass was incidentally found in a 13-year-old mixed-breed dog and was confirmed to be a cecal gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). Contrast-enhanced ultrasound and post-contrast computed tomography (CT) showed mild contrast enhancement of the mass, indicating low blood flow. The tumor origin was determined to be the cecum by identifying the vessels supplying the mass on post-contrast CT. The exophytic growth of the tumor left the cecal lumen intact without obstruction. This report described the CEUS and CT perfusion of the cecal GIST and perfusion evaluation can help diagnose and characterize GISTs in dogs.

In this paper, some general results for obtaining recurrence relations between product moments of order statistics for doubly truncated distributions are established. These results are then applied to some specific doubly truncated distributions, viz. doubly truncated Weibull, Exponential, Pareto, power function, Cauchy, Lomax and Rayleigh.

Childhood obesity is a medical condition of major public health concern. Chia seeds are used to treat certain noncommunicable diseases, and they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which contribute to the absorption of vitamins. A randomized double-blind clinical trial of 30 obese children was performed. The sample was composed of prepubertal 5- to 10-year-old children of both sexes with body mass indexes equal to or above the 95th percentile who were recruited through the Pediatric Department of the Faculdade de Medicina do ABC. Blood samples were drawn, the children were weighed and measured, and a 24-h dietary recall was obtained before and after the treatment. Not only were significant differences observed for fibrinogen (P = .011) but a correlation between the changes in markers and the presence of fibers was also observed for two inflammatory parameters: tumor necrosis factor-α (P = .027) and nuclear factor-κβ (P = .059). These results indicate that chia seeds may have anti-inflammatory effects related to their fiber content in the context of childhood obesity.

Ag deposited TiO2 was prepared by simple chemical reduction method and its photocatalytic efficiency was evaluated for the decolorization of methylene blue dye using pilot scale slurry type falling film reactors (FFR) under sunlight. The characterization of the prepared catalysts by XRD, TEM, EDAX, DRS and PL confirmed that silver, which acts as electron trap, was deposited over the TiO2 surface. The operational parameters, such as catalyst loading, concentration of the dye solution, pH of the slurry, addition of oxidizing agents and effect of different substrates, were optimized. The photocatalytic efficiency of Ag deposited TiO2 increased two-fold times than pure TiO2 and the maximum decolorization of dye was observed under acidic conditions. The reaction rate significantly increased with the addition of oxidizing agent H2O2. The ceramic tile as well as double skin reactor have higher photocatalytic efficiency than glass as substrate. In addition, Ag-deposited TiO2 photocatalyst could be easily recovered by simple sedimentation process and reused for repeated experimental cycles with more than 95% decolorization efficiency.

Vultures are important scavengers that play a vital role in clearing animal carcasses and municipal dumps. In the past decade, a sharp decline has been observed in vulture population. For the present work, Jodhpur district of Thar Desert, India, the natural habitat of resident and migratory species of vultures, was investigated. Intensive surveys of the study area were undertaken from 2007 to 2015 to determine the annual population fluctuations in various vulture species in and around Jodhpur (26°19′N and 73°08′E). The data obtained regarding the population fluctuation of different vultures species in the study area are of great significance. Comparative analysis of data obtained with regard to the population dynamics of the various species of vultures in this region has suggested that there has been a drastic decline in the population of migratory as well as resident vulture species in this region. A comparative study suggests that the population of migratory species has reached very low relative abundance in 2015 as compared to 2007. Neophron percnopterus has the highest and Gyps bengalensis has the lowest population during the entire 9-year study. The finding suggests that the reason for this population fluctuation is climate change as well as change in temperature fluctuation over a period of time, particularly during the breeding season.
