• Experimental and Computational Investigation of Aerodynamic Characteristics of Hovering Coleoptera

        Saputra,Doyoung Byun,Yong Hoon Yoo,Hoon Choel Park,Yong Hwan Byun 대한기계학회 2007 대한기계학회 춘추학술대회 Vol.2007 No.5

Aerodynamic characteristics of Coleoptera species of Epilachna quadricollis and Allomyrina dichotoma are experimentally and numerically investigated. Using digital high speed camera and smoke wire technique, we visualized the continuous wing kinematics and the flight motion of free-flying coleoptera. The experimental visualization shows that the elytra flapped concurrently with the main wing both in the downstroke and upstroke motions. The wing motion of Epilachna quadricollis was captured and analyzed frame by frame to identify the kinematics of the wings and to implement it in the movement of a model wing (thin plate) in the simulation. The two-dimensional simulation of Epilachna quadricollis hovering flight was performed by assuming the wing cross section shape as a thin plate, even though most of insect’s wings are made of curved corrugated membrane. The effect of Reynolds number are investigated by the simulation. Meanwhile, in order to investigate the role and effect of elytra, the flow visualization of Allomyrina dichotoma was carried on using smoke wire visualization technique. Here, we confirmed that the vortex generated by elytra due to its movement is strongly influence the vortex dynamic generated by hind wings.

      • Short-term manganese inhalation decreases brain dopamine transporter levels without disrupting motor skills in rats

        Saputra, Devina,Chang, JuOae,Lee, Byeong-Jae,Yoon, Jin-Ha,Kim, Jonghan,Lee, Kyuhong JAPANESE SOCIETY OF TOXICOOGICAL SCIENCES 2016 JOURNAL OF TOXICOLOGICAL SCIENCES Vol.41 No.3

Manganese (Mn) is used in industrial metal alloys and can be released into the atmosphere during methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl combustion. Increased Mn deposition in the brain after long-term exposure to the metal by inhalation is associated with altered dopamine metabolism and neurobehavioral problems, including impaired motor skills. However, neurotoxic effects of short-term exposure to inhaled Mn are not completely characterized. The purpose of this study is to define the neurobehavioral and neurochemical effects of short-term inhalation exposure to Mn at a high concentration using rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to MnCl2 aerosol in a nose-only inhalation chamber for 3 weeks (1.2 mu m, 39 mg/m(3)). Motor coordination was tested on the day after the last exposure using a rotarod device at a fixed speed of 10 rpm for 2 min. Also, dopamine transporter and dopamine receptor protein expression levels in the striatum region of the brain were determined by Western blot analysis. At a rotarod speed of 10 rpm, there were no significant differences in the time on the bar before the first fall or the number of falls during the two-minute test observed in the exposed rats, as compared with controls. The Mn-exposed group had significantly higher Mn levels in the lung, blood, olfactory bulb, prefrontal cortex, striatum, and cerebellum compared with the control group. A Mn concentration gradient was observed from the olfactory bulb to the striatum, supporting the idea that Mn is transported via the olfactory pathway. Our results demonstrated that inhalation exposure to 39 mg/m(3) Mn for 3 weeks induced mild lung injury and modulation of dopamine transporter expression in the brain, without altering motor activity.

Reducing Power Consumption of Wireless Capsule Endoscopy Utilizing Compressive Sensing Under Channel Constraint

Saputra, Oka Danil,Murti, Fahri Wisnu,Irfan, Mohammad,Putri, Nadea Nabilla,Shin, Soo Young The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2018 Journal of information and communication convergen Vol.16 No.2

Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) is considered as recent technology for the detection cancer cells in the human digestive system. WCE sends the captured information from inside the body to a sensor on the skin surface through a wireless medium. In WCE, the design of low-power consumption devices is a challenging topic. In the Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem, the number of samples should be at least twice the highest transmission frequency to reconstruct precise signals. The number of samples is proportional to the power consumption in wireless communication. This paper proposes compressive sensing as a method to reduce power consumption in WCE, by means of a trade-off between samples and reconstruction accuracy. The proposed scheme is validated under channel constraints, expressed as the realistic human body path loss. The results show that the proposed scheme achieves a significant reduction in WCE power consumption and achieves a faster computation time with low signal error reconstruction.

Inhalation of Carbon Black Nanoparticles Aggravates Pulmonary Inflammation in Mice

        Saputra, Devina,Yoon, Jin-Ha,Park, Hyunju,Heo, Yongju,Yang, Hyoseon,Lee, Eun Ji,Lee, Sangjin,Song, Chang-Woo,Lee, Kyuhong Korean Society of ToxicologyKorea Environmental Mu 2014 Toxicological Research Vol.30 No.2

An increasing number of recent studies have focused on the impact of particulate matter on human health. As a model for atmospheric particulate inhalation, we investigated the effects of inhaled carbon black nanoparticles (CBNP) on mice with bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. The CNBPs were generated by a novel aerosolization process, and the mice were exposed to the aerosol for 4 hours. We found that CBNP inhalation exacerbated lung inflammation, as evidenced by histopathology analysis and by the expression levels of interleukin-6 protein, fibronectin, and interferon-${\gamma}$ mRNAs in lung tissues. Notably, fibronectin mRNA expression showed a statistically significant increase in expression after CBNP exposure. These data suggest that the concentration of CBNPs delivered (calculated to be $12.5{\mu}g/m^3$) can aggravate lung inflammation in mice. Our results also suggest that the inhalation of ultrafine particles like PM 2.5 is an impactful environmental risk factor for humans, particularly in susceptible populations with predisposing lung conditions.

E-MICE: Energy-Efficient Concurrent Exploitation of Multiple Wi-Fi Radios

Saputra, Yuris Mulya,Yun, Ji-Hoon IEEE Computer Society 2017 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MOBILE COMPUTING Vol.16 No.7

The concurrent use of multiple Wi-Fi radios in individual frequency channels is a solution readily available today to the increase of a mobile station's communication capacity, but at the expense of occasional performance deterioration (when the heterogeneity of capacity between interfaces gets severe) and additional power consumption. This paper proposes a mobile-side solution for the concurrent use of multiple radios in a performance-aware and energy-efficient manner, with which a mobile station activates and deactivates radio interfaces dynamically according to traffic demands and a predicted capacity gain. To this end, the proposed solution is composed of multiple prediction algorithms and a control algorithm. Prediction when activating an additional radio interface is relatively difficult since no information of the disabled interface's current status (and the corresponding frequency channel's) is available at the time of prediction. Our experiments show that, despite different types and used channels, different radio interfaces have a strong correlation of received signal strengths and used PHY rates between them. Based on this observation, the proposed solution learns a correlation pattern between interfaces whenever multiple interfaces are active and makes prediction of the coverage, expected PHY rate and capacity impact of an inactive interface based on the learned correlation with a currently active interface. The design of the prediction algorithms are based on a simple or machine-learning technique (SVM). The control algorithm then keeps monitoring the utilization of active interfaces and, if any of them has utilization over a threshold, checks if each inactive interface is within coverage and a valid rate range based on an active interface's received signal strength. Finally, an action of a configuration change (either activation, deactivation, or no change) selected based on the prediction of the resulting capacity is applied. Testbed experiments using COTS dual-band Wi-Fi interfaces demonstrate that the solution can enhance throughput by up to 29.6 percent (in a close distance to AP) and at most halve power consumption compared to legacy aggregation while the gain varies depending on the location and traffic conditions.

This study aims to determine whether there are differences in the average abnormal return, trading volume activity, and trading frequency activity in pharmaceutical stocks before and after the announcement of the first case of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Indonesia. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling method and collected as many as nine pharmaceutical companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2019-2020. The data used in this study were secondary data in the form of daily data on stock closing prices, Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG), stock volume trading, number of shares outstanding, and stock trading frequency. This study was an event study with an observation period of 14 days, namely seven days before and seven days after the announcement of the coronavirus's first positive case in Indonesia. Hypothesis testing employed the paired sample t-test method. Based on the results, it was found that there was no difference in the average abnormal return of pharmaceutical stocks before and after the announcement of the first case of COVID-19. However, there was a difference in the average trading volume activity and the average trading frequency activity in pharmaceutical stocks before and after the announcement of the first case of COVID-19.

Valuing Ecotourism in Palutungan Resort, Gunung Ciremai National Park, Indonesia

Saputra Nur Adi,Don Koo Lee,Joowon Park,Yohan Lee 강원대학교 산림과학연구소 2016 Journal of Forest Science Vol.32 No.4

In this paper, we conducted an empirical study on the economic value of Palutungan Resort, Gunung Ciremai National Park (Indonesia), using an individual travel cost method. Gunung Ciremai is the highest mountain in West Java Province which has high biodiversity and constitutes the home range of the endangered species, Nisaetus bartelsi and leopards. Using the individual travel cost method, we estimated the annual consumer surplus of ecotourism for Palutungan Resort to be approximately $19, while its total economic value was $0.23 million. However, Palutungan Resort does not benefit exclusively, because the total economic value is divided diversely among the central government (non-tax revenue), local government (taxes), and local communities, while the transportation agencies, retailers, and gas station companies also reap some valuable benefits. In regard to the benefit allocation, all of the associated parties should participate in the conservation and preservation of natural resources in Palutungan Resort to improve the ecotourism services.

Trio SAPUTRA,Surya DAILIATI,Hernimawati HERNIMAWATI,Prihati PRIHATI,Tito HANDOKO 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.6

The exponential rise in population growth has resulted in increased waste, which has a negative impact on unemployment levels, income levels, education levels, GRDP, waste management costs, household size, population density, and altitude. The purpose of this study is to determine the policy analysis of the Temporary Storage Area (TPS) Solid Waste Management Program for the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing in Pekanbaru City. The research used phenomenology, and data was collected through careful observation, including interviews, document analysis results, and notes. Qualitative data analysis techniques with data collection, data reduction, presentation, and concluding interactive model analysis. The results showed that policy evaluation in the context of effectiveness, efficiency, responsiveness, adequacy, equality, and accuracy had not demonstrated Pekanbaru City’s people’s satisfaction, the accuracy of policy objectives, and the community’s needs. Based on the results in this study, it can be concluded that there is a need for the policy and management of temporary disposal sites (TPS) for environmental sanitation programs for the ministry of public works and public housing in Pekanbaru City. The factors causing the policy and management of the temporary disposal sites for garbage TPS in Pekanbaru City are communication, resource support, attitudes and dispositions of officials, bureaucratic structures, and community support.
