        Effect of solvent exchange on the properties of carbon xerogel and carbon xerogel/polypyrrole composites for supercapacitors

        Carbon xerogels (CXs) with three-dimensional (3D) structure, unusual surface, physical, electrical and mechanical properties and their electrically conductive polymer polypyrrole (PPy) composites were synthesized as electrode materials for supercapacitors. The efect of diferent resorcinol/formaldehyde (R/C) ratios, whether solvent exchange with or without acetone and polypyrrole addition on the physicochemical (FTIR, XRD, BET, SEM and TGA) and electrochemical properties (CV, 1000 cycles) of the synthesized materials were investigated. It was observed that the R/C ratio and the solvent exchange process prior to drying afect the specifc surface areas and the pore size distributions, thereby positively afecting the specifc capacitance. PPy flm thickness was observed to be efective in the specifc capacitance of the electrode in PPy composite synthesis. Among the synthesized materials, the highest specifc capacitance values belong to polypyrrole/carbon xerogel composites. As a result of the analysis and calculations, it was found that the highest specifc capacitance belongs to CX2/PPy composite with 599 Fg−1 at 5 mVs−1. CX2/PPy composite has been found to have a capacitance retention rate of 80.30% at the end of 1000 cycles.

        Is There an Association between Restless Legs Syndrome and Urticaria?

        Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a disease characterized by the urge to move the legs and sleep disturbances. Similarly, chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is a dermatological disease characterized by pruritus and sleep disorders. In this study, we aimed to determine the prevalence and severity of RLS in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) and to compare the quality of sleep of patients with and without RLS in the CSU group using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. A total of 130 patients with CSU and 100 healthy controls were included in this study. The frequency of RLS, frequency of sleep disturbances, and average score of RLS in patients with CSU were statistically significantly higher than control groups (respectively P = 0.008, P = 0.009, P = 0.004). Subjective sleep quality, sleep latency and habitual sleep efficiency scores in patients with RLS were statistically significantly higher than patients without RLS (respectively P = 0.016, P = 0.007, P = 0.035). We claimed that pruritus of urticaria may decrease the quality of sleep in patients with RLS and it may trigger and worsen the restless legs syndrome. Furthermore, RLS and CSU may share a common etiology.

        Ductal Carcinoma In Situ Detected by Shear Wave Elastography within a Fibroadenoma

        Fibroadenoma is the most common breast tumor in women. Malignant transformation occurs rarely within fibroadenoma atolder ages. Clinicians, radiologists, and pathologists need to beaware of malignant transformation within fibroadenomas. Radiologicstudies play an important role in the diagnosis of fibroadenoma;however, radiologic findings are often nonspecific formalignancy and may appear completely benign. We detected anoccult ductal carcinoma in situ that originated inside a fibroadenomaby using shear wave elastography. We report shearwave elastography findings of ductal carcinoma in situ withinfibroadenoma and discuss the diagnostic role of this modality.

        Determination of antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds for basic standardization of Turkish propolis

        This study aimed to determine the standard amount of antioxidant content and compounds of the propolis for the standardization of propolis. For this purpose, the total flavonoids, total phenolic, CUPRAC antioxidant capacity content and the diversity of phenolic and flavonoid components of these propolis samples were found by HPLC determined at the 23 propolis samples which were collected different regions of Turkey. Beside that, the similarities and differences of these 23 provinces to each other according to their antioxidant capacities were investigated by multidimensional scaling analysis. The total flavonoid content in the propolis samples were determined between 21.28 and 152.56 mg CE/g. The total phenolic content in the propolis samples was found between 34.53 mg and 259.4 mg GAE/g. CUPRAC antioxidant capacity of the propolis samples and antioxidant range was found from 95.35 to 710.43 mg TE/g. Also, 4 flavonoid [Quercetin (min.1.12–max.4.14 mg/g), Galangin (min.0.72–max.40.79 mg/g), Apigenin (min.1.07–max.17.35 mg/g), Pinocembrin (min.1.32–max.39.92 mg/g] and 6 phenolic acid [Caffeic acid (min.1.20–max.7.6 mg/g), p-Coumaric acid (min.1.26–max.4.47 mg/g), trans-Ferulic acid (min.1.28–max.4.92 mg/g), Protocatechuic acid (1.78 mg/g), trans-Cinnamic acid (min.1.05–max.3.83 mg/g), Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) (min.1.41–max.30.15 mg/g)] components were detected as mg/g, in different ratios in propolis samples collected from different regions. The feature of this study, so far, is to have the maximum number of samples representing the Turkish propolis, and so is thought to help to national and international propolis standard workings.
