The effects of different polishing techniques on the staining resistance of CAD/CAM resin-ceramics

Sagsoz, Omer,Demirci, Tevfik,Demirci, Gamze,Sagsoz, Nurdan Polat,Yildiz, Mehmet The Korean Academy of Prosthodonitics 2016 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.8 No.6

PURPOSE. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the staining resistance of CAD/CAM resin-ceramics polished with different techniques and to determine the effectiveness of the polishing techniques on resin-ceramics, comparing it with that of a glazed glass-ceramic. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four different CAD/CAM ceramics (feldspathic ceramic: C-CEREC Blocs, (SIRONA) and three resin-ceramics: L-Lava Ultimate, (3M ESPE), E-Enamic, (VITA) and CS-CeraSmart, (GC)) and one light cure composite resin: ME-Clearfil Majesty Esthetic (Kuraray) were used. Only C samples were glazed (gl). Other restorations were divided into four groups according to the polishing technique: nonpolished control group (c), a group polished with light cure liquid polish (Biscover LV BISCO) (bb), a group polished with ceramic polishing kit (Diapol, EVE) (cd), and a group polished with composite polishing kit (Clearfil Twist Dia, Kuraray) (kc). Glazed C samples and the polished samples were further divided into four subgroups and immersed into different solutions: distilled water, tea, coffee, and fermented black carrot juice. Eight samples ($8{\times}8{\times}1mm$) were prepared for each subgroup. According to CIELab system, four color measurements were made: before immersion, immersion after 1 day, after 1 week, and after 1 month. Data were analyzed with repeated measures of ANOVA (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. The highest staining resistance was found in gl samples. There was no difference among gl, kc and cd (P>.05). Staining resistance of gl was significantly higher than that of bb (P<.05). Staining resistances of E and CS were significantly higher than those of L and ME (P<.05). CONCLUSION. Ceramic and composite polishing kits can be used for resin ceramics as a counterpart of glazing procedure used for full ceramic materials. Liquid polish has limited indications for resin ceramics.

Body Hair Scores and Total Hair Diameters in Healthy Women in Kirikkale Region, of Turkey

        Nevin Sagsoz,Mansur Kamaci,Zerrin Orbak 연세대학교의과대학 2004 Yonsei medical journal Vol.45 No.SUP

It was aimed to determine the normal hair scores of women of Kırıkkale region according to the Ferriman- Gallwey scale and to investigate the relationship between the hair shaft diameter and hair scores. Hair scores were calculated in 204 healthy women, and hair shaft diameters were measured from the hair samples collected from 60 patients. Body mass index, waist to hip ratio, insulin resistance and blood androgen levels were determined. Neutral, hormonal and total hair scores were 2.1±1.4, 3.1±2.7 and 5.2±3.6, respectively. The average total hair diameter and hormonal hair diameter were 191.93±90.49μm and 121.8±75.9μm respectively. The correlation between total hair diameter and total hair score was statistically significant (r=0.704 p<0.001). Also, the correlation between hormonal hair diameter and hormonal hair score was statistically significant (r=0.724 p<0.001). While hair scores and diameters show meaningful positive correlation with androgen levels, they show negative correlation with age. In our population, 95% value of total hair score was 11, and for the hormonal score, it was 9. Hair diameters increase with hair score, regardless of total or hormonal of hair scores. Hair scores and hair diameters may be affected by blood androgens in healthy women.

The Investigation of COD Treatment and Energy Consumption of Urban Wastewater by a Continuous Electrocoagulation System

DEDE SAGSOZ, Yesim,YILMAZ, Alper Erdem,EKMEKYAPAR TORUN, Fatma,KOCADAGISTAN, Beyhan,KUL, Sinan The Korean Electrochemical Society 2022 Journal of electrochemical science and technology Vol.13 No.2

In this study, electrochemical treatment of urban wastewater with electrical conductivity of 1000 μS cm-1 and chemical oxygen demand of 250 mg L-1 was investigated using the variables of initial pH value, current density and flow rate. Electrocoagulation was used, in which aluminum and stainless steel were selected, as the electrochemical treatment process. The electrocoagulation process was operated in continuous mode. The data obtained in experimental studies show that the best COD removal efficiency occurred in experiments where the initial pH value was 6. The increase in current density from 5 A to 15 A decreased the removal efficiency from 79 to 67%. The increase in flow rate under constant current density also reduced the efficiency of removal as expected. In experiments in which current density and flow rate were examined together, the increase in flow rate allowed the application of higher current densities. This situation led to considerable reductions in energy consumption values, even if the COD removal efficiency did not significantly increase. The high COD removal obtained with the use of high flow rate and high current density indicates that the electrocoagulation process can be used for high flow rate municipal wastewater treatment.
