          Some New Inequalities of Hermite-Hadamard's Type

          Generalization of Hardy-Hilbert's Inequality and Applications

          Hydrogen Peroxide Extends Postharvest Life of Ctenanthe setosa Leaf Cuts under Osmotic Stress by Reducing Leaf Rolling

          Reducing effects of exogenous hydrogen peroxide on leaf rolling in detached leaves of Ctenanthe setosawere studied. The leaves were kept in H2O2 solutions ranging from 0 to 1 mM for 48 h and then, osmotic stresswas applied for 4 h by polyethylene glycol (PEG). Degree of leaf rolling, loss of leaf water, and malondialdehyde(MDA) content were reduced by 0.2 mM H2O2. Antioxidant enzymes were induced by 0.2 mM H2O2. EndogenousH2O2 content was increased after the 0.5 and 1 mM H2O2 treatments but was decreased after 0.2 mM H2O2 treatment. Proline was decreased after exogenous H2O2 applications. Total soluble sugar content was increased as compared tothe control after 0.2 mM H2O2 treatment. In conclusion, low-dose exogenous H2O2 treatment could delay leaf rollingby inducing tolerance to osmotic stress due to modulation of the antioxidant system, soluble sugar accumulation, andmaintenance of leaf hydration. Therefore, postharvest life of C. setosa cut foliage could be extended by 0.2 mMH2O2 treatments.

          Noncompaction of Ventricular Myocardium Involving the Right Ventricle

          Noncompaction ventricular myocardium is an unusual cause of cardiomyopathy. It is association with congenital heart defects, most often with outflow obstructive lesions or coronary anomalies. However, no factor could explain the arrest of development of myocardial structure (isolated form). The pathogenesis of isolated noncompaction is thought to be an arrest in endomyocardial morphogenesis. It has been reported that myocardial noncompaction could present as acquired disease. The most common site of involvement is the left ventricle, with right ventricular involvement being reported in a few cases. In this report, we present a case with noncompaction of the right ventricle (RV). Cardiac computed tomography angiography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated morphological abnormalities of the RV

          Efficacy of magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosis of penile fracture: A controlled study

          Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with suspected penile fracture. Materials and Methods: A total of 122 patients admitted to our inpatient clinic with a suspicion of penile fracture following a recent history of penile trauma and who underwent surgical exploration were included this study. A thorough physical examination, a detailed medical history, description of the trauma, and preoperative International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) scores were obtained for each patient prior to surgery. Thirty-eight of these patients were evaluated with MRI before the surgical exploration. Intraoperative findings were also recorded. Physical findings and IIEF scores were also recorded at postoperative 6 months. Results: The mean age of our patient group was 36.5±12.3 years. Penile fracture was detected in 105 of 122 patients in whom surgical exploration was performed owing to a suspected diagnosis. The mean time interval from penile trauma to hospital admittance was 9.9±15.1 hours. No cavernosal defect was detected in 9 of 84 patients (10.7%) who were not evaluated with MRI prior to surgery. Compared with surgical exploration, MRI findings showed 100% (30 of 30) sensitivity and 87.5% (7 of 8) specificity in the diagnosis of penile fracture. MRI had a high negative predictive value of 100% (7 of 7) and a positive predictive value of 96.7% (30 of 31) with just 1 misdiagnosed patient. Conclusions: MRI is a reliable diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of penile fractures. Compared to history and physical findings taken all together, the high sensitivity and specificity of this imaging technique can decrease the number of unnecessary surgical explorations.

        • Determination and Characterization of Thermostable Esterolytic Activity from a Novel Thermophilic Bacterium Anoxybacillus gonensis A4

          A novel hot spring thermophile, Anoxybacillus gonensis A4 (A. gonensis A4) was investigated in terms of capability of tributyrin degradation and characterization of its thermostable esterase activity by the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl butyrate (PNPB). It was observed that A. gonensis A4 has an esterase with a molecular weight of 62 kDa. The extracellular crude preparation was characterized in terms of substrate specificity, pH and temperature optima and stability, kinetic parameters and inhibition/activation behaviour towards some chemicals and metal ions. Tributyrin agar assay showed that A. gonensis A4 secreted an esterase and $V_{max}$ and $K_m$ values of its activity were found to be 800 U/L and 176.5 ${\mu}M$, respectively in the presence of PNPB substrate. The optimum temperature and pH, for A. gonensis A4 esterase was $60-80^{\circ}C$ and 5.5, respectively. Although the enzyme activity was not significantly changed by incubating crude extract solution at $30-70^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, the enzyme activity was fully lost at $80^{\circ}C$ for same incubation period. The pH-stability profile showed that original crude esterase activity increased nearly 2-fold at pH 6.0. The effect of some chemicals on crude esterase activity indicated that A. gonensis A4 produce an esterase having serine residue in active site and -SH groups were essential for its activity.

          Effects of Epinephrine and Cortisol on the Analgesic Activity of Metyrosine in Rats

          Some endogenous hormones (epinephrine and cortisol) can change an individual's pain threshold. Propranolol is a non-selective β adrenergic receptor blocker which antagonises the antiinflammatory effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs via the β1 and β2 adrenergic receptors. The roles of epinephrine and cortisol were investigated in the analgesic activity of metyrosine in rats with reduced epinephrine levels induced by metyrosine. Pain threshold measurement was performed using an analgesimeter with different doses and the single or combined usage of metyrosine, prednisolone, metyrapone and propranolol in rats. Epinephrine and corticosterone levels were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography in metyrosine-administered rats. Metyrosine reduces the epinephrine levels without affecting the corticosterone levels, thereby creating an analgesic effect. It was determined that prednisolone did not have an analgesic effect in rats with normal epinephrine levels, but its analgesic activity increased with a parallel decrease in the epinephrine levels. Similarly, the combined use of prednisolone and metyrosine provided a stronger analgesic effect than that rendered by metyrosine alone. The strongest analgesic effect, however, was observed in the group of rats with the lowest epinephrine level in whom the metyrosine + prednisolone combination was administered. The findings of this study may be useful in severe pain cases in which the available analgesics are unable to relieve the individual's pain.

          Bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to enamel with a self-etching primer after bleaching and desensitizer application

          본 연구는 미백, 탈감작제 도포 후, 셀프 에칭 프라이머를 이용하여 브라켓 접착 시 법랑질에 대한 전단결합강도를 비교하기 위해 시행되었다. 48개의 소구치를 무작위로 12개씩 4개의 그룹으로 분류하였다. Group 1: 15% hydrogen-peroxide office bleaching agent (Illumine Office-IO), Group 2: IO + BisBlock Oxalate Dentin-Desensitizer, Group 3: Bis-Block Oxalate Dentin-Desensitizer, Group 4: 아무것도 하지 않음(대조군). 브라켓 접착 24시간 후 전단결합강도를 측정하였으며, 만능시험기의 속도를 5 mm/min로 하여 브라켓이 탈락할 때까지 시행하였다. Modified adhesive remnant index를 이용하여 탈락 양상을 분석하였다. 미백만 시행, 미백과 탈감작제 도포, 탈감작제만 도포한 경우 모두 브라켓의 전단결합강도를 현저히 감소시켰으며 ($p$ = 0.001), 이 세 실험군 간에는 통계적으로 유의성 있는 차이를 관찰할 수 없었다 (Group 1-Group 2, $p$ = 0.564; Group 1-Group 3, $p$ = 0.371; Group 2-Group 3, $p$ = 0.133). 세 실험군에서 브라켓의 탈락은 주로 법랑질-접착제 계면에서 발생하여 브라켓 베이스에 접착제의 100%가 남아있었다. 따라서 미백과 탈감작제 도포는 교정치료 후에 시행하는 것이 바람직하다. Methods: Forty-eight premolars were randomly divided into four groups, each with n = 12 premolar samples. The four groups were; Group1: 15% hydrogen-peroxide office bleaching agent (Illumin$\acute{e}$ Office-IO), Group 2: IO + BisBlock Oxalate Dentin-Desensitizer, Group 3: Bis Block Oxalate Dentin-Desensitizer, Group 4: No treatment (control). Twenty-four hours after bonding, the specimens were tested in SBS at a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min until the brackets debonded. The failure mode of the brackets was determined by a modified adhesive remnant index. Results: Bleaching, bleaching and desensitizer treatment, and desensitizer treatment alone all significantly reduced SBS of the orthodontic brackets ($p$ = 0.001). No statistically significant difference was found between Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 (Group 1-Group 2, $p$ = 0.564; Group 1-Group 3, $p$ = 0.371; Group 2-Group 3, $p$ = 0.133). The predominant mode of failure for the treatment groups (Group1, Group 2 and Group 3) was at the enamel-adhesive interface leaving 100% of the adhesive on the bracket base. Conclusions: Bleaching and desensitizer treatment should be delayed until the completion of orthodontic treatment.

          Free transverse vibrations of an elastically connected simply supported twin pipe system

          In this paper, free vibration analyses of a parallel placed twin pipe system simulated by simply supported-simply supported and fixed-fixed Euler-Bernoulli beams resting on Winkler elastic soil are presented. The motion of the system is described by a homogenous set of two partial differential equations, which is solved by a simulation method called the Differential Transform Method (DTM). Free vibrations of an elastically connected twin pipe system are realized by synchronous and asynchronous deflections. The results of the presented theoretical analyses for simply supported Euler-Bernoulli beams are compared with existing ones in open literature and very good agreement is demonstrated.
