        Risk of secondary lymphedema in breast cancer survivors is related to serum phospholipid fatty acid desaturation

        <P>Secondary lymphedema is a common irreversible side effect of breast cancer surgery. We investigated if risk of secondary lymphedema in breast cancer survivors was related to changes in serum phospholipid fatty acid composition. Study subjects were voluntarily recruited into the following three groups: breast cancer survivors who had sentinel lymph node biopsy without lymphedema (SLNB), those who had auxillary lymph node dissection without lymphedema (ALND), and those who had ALND with lymphedema (ALND + LE). Body mass index (BMI), serum lipid profiles, bioimpedance data with single-frequency bioimpedance analysis (SFBIA), and serum phospholipid compositions were analyzed and compared among the groups. BMI, serum total cholesterol (total-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and SFBIA ratios increased only in the ALND + LE. High polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and high C20:4 to C18:2 n-6 PUFAs (arachidonic acid [AA]/linoleic acid [LA]) was detected in the ALND and ALND + LE groups compared to SLNB. The ALND + LE group showed increased activity indices for delta 6 desaturase (D6D) and D5D and increased ratio of AA to eicosapentaenoic acid (AA/EPA) compared to the ALND and SLNB groups. Correlation and regression analysis indicated that D6D, D5D, and AA/EPA were associated with SFBIA ratios. We demonstrated that breast cancer survivors with lymphedema had elevated total PUFAs, fatty acid desaturase activity indices, and AA/EPA in serum phospholipids. Our findings suggested that desaturation extent of fatty acid composition might be related to the risk of secondary lymphedema in breast cancer survivors.</P>

        A wavenumber domain numerical analysis of rail noise including the surface impedance of the ground

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In most previous studies of sound radiation from railway rails, the rail has been regarded as located in free space, disregarding the influence of the ground. However, in order to predict the noise from the rail more precisely, the effect of the ground should be included in rolling noise predictions. In this study, the rail noise is investigated by means of a wavenumber domain numerical method, including the presence of the ground. For rails attached to a rigid ground or located at a certain distance above it, the influence of the ground is examined in terms of the radiation ratio and longitudinal directivity. From the prediction of radiated power, it is found that the vertical and lateral bending waves of the rail radiate most of the noise for the corresponding direction. Hence, a simplified calculation is proposed that only includes these waves, instead of a full three-dimensional analysis. An absorptive ground is also modelled by applying impedance boundary conditions at the ground surface to investigate the influence of the ground on the rail noise. Finally, for the vertical and lateral bending waves in the rail, the cross-sectional directivity of the noise is predicted for various surface impedances of the ground. It is found that the simplified calculation proposed in this study is valid for the prediction of noise from the rail. Also the presence of the ground and its impedance condition have considerable effects on the level and directivity patterns of the noise radiated from the rail.</P>

        Prediction of settlement influence factors for laterally loaded short piles by using a continuum-based soil model

        An existing continuum-based model for a laterally loaded pile embedded in layered soil is developed for long piles in which the vertical deformation of soil is neglected. However, the model is unsuitable for short piles, such as large-diameter caissons and suction buckets, because the soil will have considerable vertical deflections. Thus, this study attempts to modify the existing continuum-based model for laterally loaded long piles, and the aim is to render the model applicable for short piles with large diameters. Two resisting moments are added to the model: A moment on the base of the pile and a moment due to the vertical shear stress of the soil surrounding the pile. The modified continuum-based model is examined in terms of settlement influence factors and validated with the model with finite element (FE) analysis. Our linear static analysis found that the proposed modified continuum-based model is in good agreement with the FE method for short and long piles.

        교수체제설계모형을 활용한 인지기반의 나눔교육 프로그램

        이 연구의 목적은 유아용 나눔 교육 프로그램을 개발하는 것이다. 효율성과 효과성을 동시에 얻을 수 있는 교수체제설계모형에 따라 교육프로그램을 구안하였다. 교육 내용은 저 연령의 발달적 특성 상 나눔을 위한 심리적 역량이 중요함을 고려하여 다중지능이론의 인성지능(인간친화지능, 자기성찰지능)과 도덕지능의 개념을 활용하였다. 개발된 프로그램은 분석(나눔 교육 실태와 요구분석, 학습자 분석, 과제분석), 설계(프로그램 구조, 연령별 내용 단계, 교사용 지침서 설계), 개발(초안 개발부터 CD 수정보완까지 다섯 단계), 실행 및 평가(강사 양성 과정 및 나눔 교육 실행)의 네 단계의 설계 절차에 따라 4단원 16차의 수업 내용으로 구성되었다. 개발된 나눔교육 프로그램은 지속적으로 실천 및 보완이 가능한 순환적 절차와 나눔 행동을 스스로 생각해낼 수 있는 심리적 힘을 기르는 프로그램의 예로 볼 수 있다. The purpose of this study was to develop a sharing education program based on ISD model and cognition(personal intelligence, moral intelligence). We set up 4 steps(analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation) model for developing the program. This study was carried out through reviewing available literature, analyzing the existing programs, developing the model of a sharing education program for preschoolers and the lower level elementary students, and asking opinions from a panel of experts. The major results in this study were 1) 4 stages, objects and specific contents of sharing education program were developed, 2) educational materials for motivating the participation and improving interests were developed. The developed program was examined by expert groups and the weak points were revised through professional workshop and the pilot class. This program is contributing to implement the sharing education program continually.

        개인변인 및 평생학습 경험에 따른 행복감의 차이 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 평생학습경험 중에서 어떤 경험이 행복감을 증진하는가를 밝히는데 있다. 본 연구에서는 2014년도에 실시된 한국교육개발원(KEDI) `평생학습 개인실태조사` 데이터를 활용하여, 응답자 배경변인과 학습경험, 학습환경, 학습역량, 그리고 사회참여 및 인식에 따른 행복감의 차이를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 첫째, 여성, 만 35- 44세 집단, 대졸이상의 학력 소유자, 월소득 500만원 이상자, 정규직 임금근로자, 기혼자의 사람들의 행복감이 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 7가지(가족·친구·동료, 컴퓨터·인터넷, TV·라디오·비디오 시청, 인쇄매체, 역사·자연·산업적 장소방문, 도서관방문, 축제·음악회·박람회 참여)로 제시되었던 무형식학습을 경험한 사람들이 그렇지 않은 집단에 비해 행복감이 높았다. 셋째, 참여하고 싶은 프로그램이 있는 사람과 또한 그러한 프로그램에 실질적으로 참여한 사람의 행복감이 더 높았다. 넷째, 영어학습을 하거나, 영어나 인터넷을 거의 매일 사용하는 사람들이 행복감이 더 높았다. 다섯째, 사회참여 및 인식의 경우, 자원봉사활동을 하고, 정치에 대해 `매우 관심`이 높으며, 투표에 참여를 했으며, 친교모임(친구, 친척, 동료)을 `일주일에 2-3번` 하는 경우, 마음을 터놓고 개인적으로 의논할 수 있는 사람이 `10명 이상`인 경우, 건강상태가, `매우 좋은` 경우, 지난 1년간 삶의 질이 `매우 향상된` 경우, 그리고 평생학습이 삶의 질 향상에 `매우 도움이` 된다고 한 경우에 행복감이 더 높았다. 요약하면, 사회경제적으로 중산층이며, 사회성이 있으며, 자기계발 욕구가 있고, 평생교육에 적극 참여하며, 그로 인해 자기계발 및 성과를 얻는 경우 행복감이 더 높았다. The purpose of this study was to clarity which experience among lifelong learning experiences promotes happiness. In this study, we used data of KEDI(Korean Educational Development Institute)`s `Personal Survey of Lifelong Learning`, conducted in 2014. The differences in happiness by learning experiences were analyzed with one-way ANOVA. As a result, firstly, the happiness of women, 35-44 age group, university graduates, monthly income of 5 million won or more, regular employees, and married people were significantly higher than other groups. Second, people having experiences of 7 kinds of informal learning(learning through family/friends/colleagues, computer/internet, TV/radio/video, print media, visiting historical/natural/industrial places, visiting libraries, participating in festivals/concerts /fairs) were more happy than the other group. Third, the people who had the programs they wanted to participate in and the people who actually participated in those programs, were more happy. Fourth, the people who studied English, and who used English and computer almost everyday, were more happy than the other groups. Fifth, the people who did volunteering, who were interested in politics very much, who participated in social gatherings 2-3 times per week, who had more than 10 close friends to talk about personal matters, who were very healthy, who thought their quality of life were improved for the last year, and who thought that lifelong learning were helpful in promoting the quality of life very much, were more happy than other groups. In conclusion, the people who are in the position of middle class socio-economically, who are sociable, who want to develop themselves, and who participate in lifelong learning, feel happy more than other groups of people.
