        Effective identification and estimation for the semiparametric measurement error model

        In this paper, we develop exact nonparametric inference for quantiles of the population based on the sequence of k-record values, conditionally on the corresponding observed inter-k-record times, to increase the precision of inference, as compared to nonparametric unconditional procedures. The effect of including the additional information contained in the inter-k-record times is evaluated by means of an empirical study. The conditional tolerance and prediction intervals for a future k-record from another independent sequence are obtained as well. A real data set is also used to illustrate the inferential results developed here.

      • A Novel Design of Compact Low-Pass Filter and Its Equivalent Circuit Model

        A novel design of compact low-pass filter based on microstrip structure and its equivalent-circuit model are developed. The philosophy of the structure behind this novel microstrip low-pass filter is simple as it is composed of a pair of symmetrical parallel coupled-line and an open-stub. With this configuration, a finite attenuation pole near the stopband cutoff frequency is available and adjustable by simply tuning the circuit parameters. Furthermore, the rejection bandwidth of this type of lowpass filter can be extended. In order to validate the feasibility of the proposed design method, a low-pass filter based on a microstrip structure is designed, fabricated, and measured. Experimental results agree very well with the simulation and analytical results.

        Nitric Oxide Plays an Important Role in β-Aminobutyric Acid-Induced Resistance to Botrytis cinerea in Tomato Plants

        β-Aminobutyric acid (BABA) has consistently been reported to enhance plant immunity. However, the specific mechanisms and downstream components that mediate this resistance are not yet agreed upon. Nitric oxide (NO) is an important signal molecule involved in a diverse range of physiological processes, and whether NO is involved in BABA-induced resistance is interest- ing. In this study, treatment with BABA significantly increased NO accumulation and reduced the sensitivity to Botrytis cinerea in tomato plants. BABA treatment reduced physical signs of infection and increased both the transcription of key defense marker genes and the activity of defensive enzymes. Interestingly, compared to treatment with BABA alone, treatment with BABA plus cPTIO (NO specific scavenger) not only signifi- cantly reduced NO accumulation, but also increased disease incidence and lesion area. These results sug- gest that NO accumulation plays an important role in BABA-induced resistance against B. cinerea in tomato plants.

        Semi-Lumped Compact Low-Pass Filter for Harmonics Suppression

        In this paper, a new semi-lumped low-pass filter with three finite attenuation poles at stopband is presented. The new structure is composed of a pair of symmetrical parallel coupled-line and a shunted capacitor. With this configuration, three finite attenuation poles can be available for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th harmonics suppression. The research method is based on transmission-line model for tuning the attenuation poles. In order to examine the feasibility of the proposed structure, a low-pass filter based on microstrip structure with harmonics suppression is designed, fabricated, and measured. The experimental results of the fabricated circuit agree well with the simulation and analytical ones.

        Ab initio MRCI+Q Investigations of Spectroscopic Properties of Several Low-lying Electronic States of S2+ Cation

        The complete active space self-consist field method followed by the internally contracted multireference configuration interaction method has been used to compute the potential energy curves of X2Πg, a4Πu, A2Πu, b4Σ− g, and B2Σ− g states of S2 + cation with large correlation-consistent basis sets. Utilizing the potential energy curves computed with different basis sets, the spectroscopic parameters of these states were evaluated. Finally, the transition dipole moment and the Franck-Condon factors of the transition from A2Πu to X2Πg were evaluated. The radiative lifetime of A2Πu is calculated to be 887 ns, which is in good agreement with experimental value of 805 ± 10 ns.

        Additive manufacturing (AM) of piercing punches by the PBF method of metal 3D printing using mold steel powder materials

        The purpose of this study is to develop additive manufacturing fabrication for high-strength punches. After screening the powder material and the manufacturing method, a solution possessing excellent mechanical properties was selected for manufacturing. Additive manufacturing specimens and comparative specimens were fabricated using metal materials while the comparative specimens were produced with bulk materials in the same grade as the powder materials. The specimens were tested to determine their mechanical properties. The additive manufacturing specimens were produced through the PBF method for three kinds of die steel powder materials: H13, M300 and KP4. In the experimental section, tests for density, hardness, and toughness were included. SEM and EDS analysis were also used in this study to analyze and observe the microstructure of the additive manufacturing specimens. Considering the mechanical properties test and the SEM and EDS results, it was easy to determine that M300 was the most suitable material for high-strength punches. It not only possesses better mechanical properties, but also a better microstructure than the other two materials. The punch fabricated by the M300 and PBF additive manufacturing methods exhibited good performance in durability testing. In this study, the use of 3D printing technology to produce high-strength punches with high-strength die steel powder material has become a reality. In the future, the process parameters should be optimized and post-processing of punches should be added to obtain additive-manufacturing punches with better mechanical properties.

        The Characterization of Hemicellulose Extract from Corn Stalk with Stepwise Alkali Extraction

        In this paper, the stepwise alkaline extraction and structural characterization of hemicelluloses in corn stalk were conducted, and the theoretical support for the application of hemicelluloses was provided. Stepwise alkaline extraction of dewaxed corn stalk was performed with water, KOH aqueous solution (0.6%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0%) and a mixture of KOH solution and ethanol with a volume ratio of 2:3, and under these conditions, 2.6%, 10.2%, 16.5%, 24.8%, 11.2% and 8.7% of total hemicelluloses were extracted from corn stalk, respectively. The six types of hemicelluloses from different KOH concentration extraction process were characterized by high performance anion exchange chromatography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analyzer (TG), carbon-13 magnetic resonance spectroscopy (13C-NMR) and hydrogen-1magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR). Xylose was the predominant sugar constituent in the six types of hemicelluloses, and arabinose, glucose and galactose were present in small amounts. The straight chain and higher thermal stability hemicellulose can be obtained at optimal alkali concentration. An optimal alkali solution concentration was found to be at 1.5% KOH with the higher yield, xylose content and thermal stability of the hemicelluloses. NMR analysis showed that the alkaline extraction of the corn stalk with 1.5% KOH did not result in any obvious change in the macromolecular structure of hemicelluloses.

        A New Parameter Estimation Method for a Zipf-like Distribution for Geospatial Data Access

        Many reports have shown that the access pattern forgeospatial tiles follows Zipf’s law and that its parameter αrepresents the access characteristics. However, visits togeospatial tiles have temporal and spatial popularities, andthe α-value changes as they change. We construct amathematical model to simulate the user’s access behaviorby studying the attributes of frequently visited tile objectsto determine parameter estimation algorithms. Becausethe least squares (LS) method in common use cannotobtain an exact α-value and does not provide a suitable fitto data for frequently visited tiles, we present a newapproach, which uses a moment method of estimation toobtain the value of α when α is close to 1. When α isfurther away from 1, the method uses the associated cachehit ratio for tile access and uses an LS method based on acritical cache size to estimate the value of α. The decreasein the estimation error is presented and discussed in thesection on experiment results. This new method, whichprovides a more accurate estimate of α than earliermethods, promises more effective prediction of requestsfor frequently accessed tiles for better caching and loadbalancing.

        Effect of High Energy Shot Peening on the Microstructure and Mechanical Property of AZ31B Mg Alloy/HSLA350 Steel Lap Joints

        When using high energy shot peening (HESP) technology, the surface layer of the welded joints produced grain breakage and residual compressive stress. When the shot peening strength is the optimal parameter 0.10 MPa, the residual compressive stress reaches a maximum value of 74.02 MPa, dislocation density in welded joints increased significantly and the tensile shear strength of the joint was increased by 18.6% compared to the joint without HESP treatment (205 MPa), and the fracture position of the welded joint was located in the Al alloy base material, these were brought by fi ne grain strengthening and strain strengthening. When the shot peening strength was 0.05 MPa, the strength of the joint was also improved, but the fracture position of the joint was the same as that without HESP treatment, and they were all in the fusion zone. However, when the shot peening strength was further increased to 0.15 MPa, severe cracks appeared inside the joint, which deteriorates the strength of the Mg/steel joint.
