• Occupational Cooking and Risk of Uveal Melanoma: a Meta-analysis

        Ge, Yi-Rui,Tian, Nong,Lu, Yan,Wu, Yong,Hu, Qin-Rui,Huang, Zheng-Ping Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.10

Background: Many observational studies have assessed the possible association between occupational cooking and uveal melanoma risk, but reported results are controversial. Our goal was to evaluate the association between occupational cooking and uveal melanoma risk by conducting a meta-analysis of observational studies. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science were searched through June 2012 to identify all eligible studies. The pooled odds ratio (OR) with its 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was used to evaluate this association. Either a fixed- or a random-effects model were used to calculate pooled ORs. Results: Five case-control studies involving a total of 1,199 cases and 6,927 controls were included in the meta-analysis. Overall, occupational cooking was associated with an increased risk of uveal melanoma (OR: 1.81, 95%CI 1.33-2.46, P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis by gender suggested occupational cooking was associated with increased risk of uveal melanoma in both men (OR: 2.16, 95%CI 1.06-4.40, P = 0.034) and women (OR: 1.92, 95%CI 1.19-3.10, P = 0.008). Conclusion: This meta-analysis suggests that occupational cooking is associated with an increased risk of uveal melanoma in both men and women.

Roll-to-Roll Embossing of Optical Radial Fresnel Lenses on Polymer Film for Concentrator Photovoltaics: A Feasibility Study

Rui Huang,Xinquan Zhang,Boon Ping Ng,A. Senthil Kumar,Kui Liu 한국정밀공학회 2021 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.8 No.1

Fresnel-based concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar power systems have been proven effective to significantly enhance the photoelectric conversion efficiency, but a standard-size solar plant will require an extremely large amount of polymer radial Fresnel lenses. Roll-to-roll (R2R) manufacturing is a high-throughput technology to mass produce high-quality functional optical polymer fi lm. In this paper, we have firstly studied a complete manufacturing cycle for R2R embossing of radial Fresnel lens polymer fi lm for CPV systems, in terms of polymer lens design, roller mold machining, R2R embossing and optical performance test. Instead of wrapping an electroplated metal sheet onto the roller in conventional R2R process, the lens pattern array is directly machined using a 5-axis ultra-precision machining system to guarantee its surface quality and accuracy. Optical performance evaluation for the manufactured polymer fi lm using a reference solar cell is conducted, and results have shown that radial Fresnel lens on the polymer fi lm can achieve a sunlight concentration ratio 3.9 × times that of linear lenses with a much smaller receiving area. This study has explored the feasibility for R2R embossing of optical polymer fi lm, an industry-applicable and cost-effective technology for mass production of high-quality Fresnel lenses to be used in high-efficiency CPV systems.

Dynamic analysis of deployable structures using independent displacement modes based on Moore-Penrose generalized inverse matrix

        Ping Xiang,Minger Wu,Rui Q. Zhou 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.54 No.6

Deployable structures have gained more and more applications in space and civil structures, while it takes a large amount of computational resources to analyze this kind of multibody systems using common analysis methods. This paper presents a new approach for dynamic analysis of multibody systems consisting of both rigid bars and arbitrarily shaped rigid bodies. The bars and rigid bodies are connected through their nodes by ideal pin joints, which are usually fundamental components of deployable structures. Utilizing the Moore-Penrose generalized inverse matrix, equations of motion and constraint equations of the bars and rigid bodies are formulated with nodal Cartesian coordinates as unknowns. Based on the constraint equations, the nodal displacements are expressed as linear combination of the independent modes of the rigid body displacements, i.e., the null space orthogonal basis of the constraint matrix. The proposed method has less unknowns and a simple formulation compared with common multibody dynamic methods. An analysis program for the proposed method is developed, and its validity and efficiency are investigated by analyses of several representative numerical examples, where good accuracy and efficiency are demonstrated through comparison with commercial software package ADAMS.

Nonlinear Local Lyapunov Exponent and Quantification of Local Predictability

        Rui-Qiang, Ding,Jian-Ping, Li,Kyung-Ja, Ha Science Press 2008 CHINESE PHYSICS LETTERS Vol.25 No.5

Nonlinear local Lyapunov exponent (NLLE) is applied to quantitatively determine the local predictability limit of chaotic systems. As an example, we find that the local predictability limit of Henon attractor varies considerably with time, and some underlying phase-spatial structure does not appear. The local predictability limit of initially adjacent points in phase space may be completely different. This will cause difficulties in making the long-time analogue forecast.

Neuroprotective effect of miR‑410‑3p against sevoflurane anesthesia‑induced cognitive dysfunction in rats through PI3K/Akt signaling pathway via targeting C–X–C motif chemokine receptor 5

        Rui Su,Ping Sun,Dianhong Zhang,Wei Xiao,Chun Feng,Liang Zhong 한국유전학회 2019 Genes & Genomics Vol.41 No.10

Background Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with impairment of cognition. Sevoflurane anesthesia has been found to lead to CD and microRNAs (miRNAs) were reported to affect cognitive function. This study investigates the neuroprotective effect against sevoflurane anesthesia-induced CD. Methods HE staining was used to detect the pathological change of hippocampal neuron. Morris water maze test was used to analyze latency time, platform crossing and swimming speed. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blotting were performed to examine the mRNA and protein expression of miR-410-3p, IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β and C–X–C motif chemokine receptor 5 (CXCR5). Dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to detect the relationship between miR-410-3p and CXCR5. Results MiR-410-3p was downregulated in sevoflurane anesthesia-induced rats and cells and act as a suppressor in sevoflurane anesthesia-induced hippocampal neuron apoptosis and inflammation. Furthermore, miR-410-3p was identified to bind with CXCR5. Further analysis showed that CXCR5 expression was increased by sevoflurane treatment, whereas was repressed by miR-410-3p overexpression. Moreover, miR-410-3p could inhibit sevoflurane anesthesia-induced hippocampal neuron apoptosis by phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) pathway. Conclusion These data indicated that miR-410-3p exhibited its neuroprotective effect on sevoflurane anesthesia-induced CD by targeting CXCR5 via PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Our study may potentially provide a new light on the pathogenesis and therapeutic method for sevoflurane anesthesia-induced CD.

High selectivity and removal efficiency of lotus root-based activated carbon towards Fe(III) in La(III) solution

        Rui-Yan Wu,Yong Wang,Xiao-Yan Xue,Fu-Qiang An,Tuo-Ping Hu,Jian-Feng Gao 한국화학공학회 2018 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.35 No.3

Rare earth elements are an important strategic resource. However, a trace of Fe(III) impurity has serious adverse impact on the performance of rare earth materials. We synthesized a novel nitrogen-containing carbon material, ACLR-400, using lotus root as raw materials. The ACLR-400 was characterized by surface area analyzer, elemental analysis and FT-IR. The selectivity and removal efficiency of ACLR-400 towards Fe(III) were also investigated. The BET specific surface area of ACLR-400 was 68.44m2·g−1, and the average pore diameter was 12.54 nm. With abundant nitrogen- containing functional groups and well-developed internal pore structure, ACLR-400 possesses strong adsorption affinity, excellent selectivity and removal efficiency for Fe(III). The adsorption capacity of ACLR-400 towards Fe(III) could reach to 0.46mmol·g−1, selectivity coefficient with respect to La(III) was 8.9, and removal efficiency was 99.61%. The adsorption isotherm data greatly obey the Freundlich isotherm. In addition, ACLR-400 can be regenerated easily and possesses better regeneration ability and reusability.

Dieless bulging and nonlinear buckling of longan-shaped pressure hull

He Rui,Zhang Jian,Kaewunruen Sakdirat,Zhan Ming,Liu Ping 대한조선학회 2023 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.15 No.-

In this study, the dieless bulging and nonlinear buckling behaviours of a stainless longan-shaped pressure hull were investigated. According to the Cassini oval equation, the longan shape has a shape index of 0.1. The lengths of the major and minor axes of the designed longan-shaped pressure hull were approximately 400 and 396 mm, respectively. The wall thickness of this pressure hull was 1 mm. The Huberevon Mises stress and first yielding load of the designed longan-shaped shell and its inscribed polyhedral preform were investigated analytically and experimentally. Moreover, the dieless bulging of the designed longan-shaped pressure hull was investigated numerically and experimentally by using the nonlinear finite element method and a hydrostatic test, respectively. The analytical, experimental, and numerical results exhibited good agreement with each other.

Technical Note : The FasT-Fix Repair Technique for Ramp Lesion of the Medial Meniscus

( Wei Ping Li ),( Zhong Chen ),( Bin Song ),( Rui Yang ),( Wei Quan Tan ) 대한슬관절학회 2015 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.27 No.1

Introduction: This technical note describes a new arthroscopic technique to repair the peripheral attachment lesion of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. The operation was performed under arthroscopy using a standard anterior portal. Surgical Technique: A FasT-Fix needle was inserted obliquely close to the tibial plateau and the first implant was inserted into the joint capsule depending on its bending angle underneath the meniscus. The second implant was inserted through 1/3 periphery of the meniscus into the meniscocapsular area. The pre-tied self-sliding knot was tensioned to achieve secure fixation of the posterior meniscal peripheral attachment at the original attachment point. Materials and Methods: From August 2011 to February 2014, 23 knees were diagnosed as ramp lesion, underwent meniscal repair using FasT-Fix technique. Results: All patients were followed up for average 14 months. The Lysholm score improved from preoperative 64.4±4.52 to postoperative 91.2±4.60. Conclusions: We believe that the FasT-Fix technique via the standard anterior portal can be a more convenient and less traumatic alternative for repair of the peripheral attachment lesion of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus in the anterior cruciate ligament deficient knee.

      • Hepatic Angiomyolipoma: Contrast Patterns with SonoVue-enhanced Real-time Gray-scale Ultrasonography

        Wei, Rui-Xue,Wang, Wen-Ping,Ding, Hong,Huang, Bei-Jian,Li, Chao-Lun,Fan, Pei-Li,Hou, Jun,He, Nian-An Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.2

This study was conducted to retrospectively evaluate the pattern of contrast enhancement with SonoVue on gray-scale ultrasonography of hepatic angiomyolipoma (HAML). Imaging features of 33 pathologically proven HAML lesions in 33 patients who underwent baseline ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) were assessed retrospectively. All lesions were enhanced in the arterial phase and showed whole-tumor filling in. Thirty-two of 33 (97%) lesions showed early positive enhancement in the arterial phase. Twenty-three of these exhibited isoechoic or hyperechoic features in the portal phase. HAML demonstrate characteristic manifestations with SonoVue-enhanced real-time gray-scale ultrasonography.
