Objective: We performed a pooled analysis to examine cigarette smoking and householdpassive smoke exposure in relation to the risk of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection andcervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2+ (CIN2+). Methods: Data were pooled from 12 cross-sectional studies for cervical cancer screeningsfrom 10 provinces of China in 1999–2007. A total of 16,422 women were analyzed, alongwith 2,392 high-risk-HPV (hr-HPV) positive women and 381 CIN2+ cases. Pooled odds ratios(ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using logistic regression modelscontrolling for sexual and non-sexual confounding factors. Results: There was an excess risk between active smoking and hr-HPV infection and CIN2+. Adjusted OR for ever smokers vs. never smokers was 1.45 (95% CI=1.10–1.91), for hr-HPVinfection and 1.89 (95% CI=1.03–3.44), for CIN2+. Passive smoking had a slightly increasedrisk on the hr-HPV infection with adjusted OR 1.11 (1.00–1.24), but no statistical associationwas observed between passive smoke exposure and CIN2+. Compared with the neither activenor passive smokers, both active and passive smokers had a 1.57-fold (95% CI=1.14–2.15)increased risk of HPV infection and a 1.99-fold (95% CI=1.02–3.88) risk of CIN2+. Conclusion: Our large multi-center cross-sectional study found active smoking couldincrease the risk of overall hr-HPV infection and CIN2+ adjusted by passive smoking andother factors. Passive smoking mildly increased the risk of HPV infection but not the CIN2+. An interaction existed between passive tobacco exposure and active smoking for hr-HPVinfection and the CIN2+.

This work investigates the adaptive neural tracking control problem for a class of uncertain switched nonlinear non-lower triangular systems with disturbances and dead-zone input. First, radial basis function (RBF) neural networks (NNs) serve as a flexible tool to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions. Then during the controller design, the dynamic surface control (DSC) method is used to avoid the issue of "explosion of complexity", and only one adaptive law is adopted to reduce the computational burden. What’s more, a few classical mathematical approaches are used to handle the design difficulties caused by dead-zone input, and the proposed controller guarantees the closed-loop system signals are semi-globally uniform ultimate boundedness (SGUUB). Finally, a simulation example is given to illustrate the availability of the proposed control scheme.
Properties of Monte Carlo and Its Application to Risk Management
Li Rui-mei 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of u- and e- Service, Scienc Vol.8 No.9
The complexity and turbulence of a project may lead to its unpredictability, so risk management is increasingly important. This paper focuses on the application of Monte Carlo method in project management as follow: first, deals with the estimated scale with Wide band Delphi method and gets the interval of prediction after making repeated samples in line with the generally adopted probability models; then figures out the workloads according to the management abilities and historical date; finally obtains the progress of the project with a method combining COCOMOⅡ method and then improves the ability to predict and control management activities with uncertainties.
Dynamic response analysis of generally damped linear system with repeated eigenvalues
Rui-fang Yu,Xi-yuan Zhou,Mei-qiao Yuan 국제구조공학회 2012 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.42 No.4
For generally damped linear systems with repeated eigenvalues and defective eigenvectors, this study provides a decomposition method based on residue matrix, which is suitable for engineering applications. Based on this method, a hybrid approach is presented, incorporating the merits of the modal superposition method and the residue matrix decomposition method, which does not need to consider the defective characteristics of the eigenvectors corresponding to repeated eigenvalues. The method derived in this study has clear physical concepts and is easily to be understood and mastered by engineering designers. Furthermore, this study analyzes the applicability of step-by-step methods, including the Newmark beta and Runge-Kutta methods for dynamic response calculation of defective systems. Finally, the implementation procedure of the proposed hybrid approach is illustrated by analyzing numerical examples, and the correctness and the effectiveness of the formula are judged by comparing the results obtained from the different methods.

Over the past decade or so, Chinese government has been strategically luring back overseas Chinese high-fliers to strengthen science, technology, and higher education. One of the major initiatives is the Thousand Youth Talents Scheme (TYTS) launched in 2011. By 2017, 2980 Thousand Youth Talents Scheme scholars (TYTSs) had been recruited into China’s universities, research institutes, and enterprises (Retrieved from http://www.1000plan.org). Enjoying favorable policies and possessing their unique capital, they are well positioned to transfer the knowledge, skills, and experiences obtained overseas to their home institutions, while at the same time face challenges and difficulties in their professional development at home. While China’s overseas talent policies, at both governmental and institutional levels, have been well documented, the lived experiences of such elite scholars have been little understood. Employing a qualitative method of semi-structure interviews, this article examines how they mobilize domestic and international resources and networks to construct their professional development spaces and navigate their careers in the Chinese academic environment. It reports that TYTSs have established advantageous conditions for their professional development in both national and global environment and participated in transnational knowledge production. They have made significant contributions to the development of their affiliated institutions by producing compelling publications, extending new research directions, and uplifting domestic academic communities.

Objective: To analyze differences in feasibility and efficacy between the paravertebral approach and microtubular tumorectomy (PAMT) or percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic tumorectomy (PTET) for the treatment of lumbar dumbbell-shaped tumors. Methods: Clinical data of dumbbell-shaped lumbar tumors in patients treated with PAMT or PTET in our hospital between June 2015 and November 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The gross total resection (GTR) rate, operation time, estimated blood loss, postoperative hospital stay (PHS), postoperative neurological function, and spinal stability were compared between the 2 surgical methods. Neurological improvement was assessed using the pain visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score. Results: Fifteen cases of GTR (93.8%) and 1 case of subtotal resection were included in the PTET group, whilst all 18 patients in the PAMT group achieved GTR. There was no significant difference in the GTR rate, operation time, and PHS between the PAMT and PTET groups. The estimated blood loss was significantly lower in the PTET group than in the PAMT group. At the last follow-up, there was no significant difference in the VAS or JOA scores between PTET and PAMT. No tumor recurrence or spinal instability was observed in either group during the follow-up period. Conclusion: Both PAMT and PTET can achieve Eden type III-IV lumbar 1-stage tumor resection without additional spinal internal fixation due to reduced muscle, ligament, and facet joint damage. No lumbar instability and tumor recurrence occurred, and neurological function was improved.
Cytoprotective Activity of Carpinus tschonoskii againstH2O2 Induced Oxidative Stress

have studied the cytoprotective effect on H2O2 induced oxidative stress from leaves of Carpinustschonoskii. The methanol extract of Carpinus tschonoski was found to scavenge intracellular reactive oxygenspecies (ROS) using flow cytometry and confocal microscope. This extract prevented lipid peroxidation and thusreduced cell death of Chinese hamster lung fibroblast (V79-4) induced by H2O2 treatment. The extract increasedcatalase activity and phosphorylation of extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK). Taken together, the resultssuggest that Carpinus tschonoskii protects V79-4 cells against oxidative damage by H2O2 through scavengingROS.Keywordsoxidative stress, reactive oxygen species, Chinese hamster lung fibroblast, Carpinus tschonoskii
