Four hydroxybenzamide derivatives were synthesized from protocatechuic acid. The antioxidant activities of these derivatives were evaluated in vitro using DPPH radical scavenging and reducing power assays. In addition, these compounds were subjected to a chromogenic thrombin-inhibitory assay using Chromozym-TH as the substrate. The anticancer effects of these derivatives were also investigated using the MTT assay in three human cancer cell lines. Four derivatives exhibited excellent DPPH radical scavenging activity and redox potential. Their highly inhibitory effect against thrombin may allow them to be utilized as novel micromolecule thrombin inhibitors. Furthermore, four derivatives demonstrated different inhibitory activities in three human cancer cell lines but showed minimal harmful effects on normal HUVEC cells. Therefore, hydroxybenzamide derivatives indicate the superior antioxidant, thrombin-inhibitory, and anticancer activities along with the excellent biocompatibility, which have the potential application in therapeutic interventions and disease prevention of cancer, thrombotic diseases, and aging.
Antioxidant Activity of Water Extract from the Cultured Mycelia of Phellinus Baumii

The antioxidant property of cultured mycelia of Phellinus baumii was investigated. The water-soluble extract isolated from these mycelia showed intracellular reactive oxygen species, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging and lipid peroxidation inhibitory activities. This radical scavenging activity of extract protected cell viability of Chinese hamster lung fibroblast (V79-4) cells exposed to H2O2. Furthermore, water extract reduced the apoptotic cells induced by H2O2, as demonstrated by the decreased number of sub G1 hypo-diploid cells and apoptotic body formation and it increased the activities of cellular antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase and catalase. Taken together, these findings suggest that mycelia of P. baumii exhibit antioxidant property. (Cancer Prev Res 11, 329-335, 2006)
The Investigation on Thermal Aging Characteristics of Oil-Paper Insulation in Bushing

Bushing is the key link to connect outer and inner insulating systems and also the essential electric accessory in electric power system, especially in the high voltage engineering (AC 1000kV, DC 800kV). This paper presented the experimental research of thermal aging characteristic of oilpaper insulation used in bushing. A thermally accelerated aging experiment at 90℃ was performed. The bushing models containing five layers of paper were sealed into the aging vessels and further aged for 250 days. Then several important parameters associated with the aging were observed and evaluated. The results showed that the degree of polymerization (DP) of papers gradually decreased. The DP values of outermost layer and middle layer fit well into the second-order kinematic model and first-order kinematic model, respectively. Less deterioration speed of the inter-layer paper than outer layer was confirmed by the variation of DP. Hydrolysis was considered as the main cause to this phenomenon. In addition, the logarithm of the furfural concentrations in insulation oil was found to have good linear relationship with DP of papers. Interestingly, when the aging time is about 250 days and DP is 419, the aging process reaches an inflection point at which the DP approaches the leveling off degree of polymerization (LODP) value. Both tanδ and acid number of oils increased, while surface and volume resistivity of papers decreased. The obtained results demonstrated that thermal aging and moisture absorbed in papers brought great influence to the degradation of insulating paper, leading to rapid decrease of DP and increase of the tanδ . Thus, the bushing should be avoided from damp and real-time monitoring to the variation of tanδ and DP values of paper is an effective way to evaluate the insulation status of bushing.

중국 대학의 학생자율모집정책은 통일적인 대학입학시험을 위주로 한 다원적 시험평가와 다양한 학생선발 방식의 탐색이었으며 2003년 처음으로 실시된 이래로 사회의 광범위한 관심을 받아왔다. 2014년 12월 학생자율모집정책은 전면적인 개혁을 진행하였으며, 2018년까지 총 90개 대학들이 학생자율모집전형을 실시하고 있다. 본 연구는 중국의 학생자율모집정책 개혁 이후의 실행 현황 및 문제점을 파악하기 위해 Cooper 등의 다차원 교육정책분석 모형을 도입하여 규범적 차원, 구조적 차원, 구성적 차원 및 기술적 차원에서 학생자율모집정책을 분석하였다. 규범적 차원에서 중국사회의 변혁과 공평성을 살펴보았고, 구조적 차원에서 정부와 대학의 구조관계 및 정부의 법적 지원제도를 중점적으로 분석하였다. 구성적 차원에서는 대학을 중심으로 하여 대학과 정부, 대학과 고등학교, 대학과 학생 및 학부모 이 세 관계를 집중적으로 다루었으며, 마지막으로 기술적 차원에서는 개혁 전후 치열한 논쟁이 이루어진 신뢰성 및 전문성을 중점적으로 분석하였다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 중국의 실정에 맞는 학생자율모집정책의 향후 발전방향을 제언하였다. Since China restored the policy of College Entrance Examination, the Chinese government has made continuous adjustments and reforms in accordance with the demands of social development. The policy of autonomous enrollment focused on improving the College Entrance Examination system and exploring multiple evaluation and selection methods of students. It has gained wide attention in academia and community since it has been introduced. The reform of Chinese autonomous enrollment was deepened in 2014, and a total of 90 universities have been authorized to implement this policy by 2018. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of the autonomous enrollment policy reform and the current problems by adopting Cooper’s four-dimensional educational policy analysis model. For this purpose, this dissertation examined Chinese social transition and education equity from the normative dimension. And then it analyzed the structural relationship between the government and universities, as well as the legal support system of the government from the structural dimension. From the constituentive dimension, this paper observed three interest group relationships dominated by universities: universities and the government, universities and high schools, as well as universities and students with their parents. Lastly, this paper focused on the reliability and professionalism of examination which have been fiercely debated before and after the reform. Based on the result of the analysis, this paper finally explored the future direction of Chinese Autonomous Enrollment Policy.
Preventive Effect of 7,8-Dihydroxyflavone against Oxidative Stress Induced Genotoxicity

<P>We elucidated the protective effect of 7,8-dihydroxyflavone against hydrogen peroxide (H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>)-induced DNA damage. We found that 7,8-dihydroxyflavone scavenges 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). 7,8-Dihydroxyflavone with antioxidant effect prevented the H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-induced cellular DNA damage, as evidenced by comet tail, 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) content, and phospho-histone H2A.X protein expression. Hence, 7,8-dihydroxyflavone was shown to protect cell <I>via</I> the inhibition of apoptosis induced by H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>. This was substantiated by decreased apoptotic nuclear fragmentation, decreased sub-G<SUB>1</SUB> cell population, and decreased DNA fragmentation. Furthermore, 7,8-dihydroxyflavone activated the protein kinase B (PKB, Akt) signal pathway, which is a major survival signal pathway. In addition, LY294002, which is phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K, upstream of Akt) inhibitor, attenuated the protective effect of 7,8-dihydroxyflavone against H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-induced cell damage. In conclusion, 7,8-dihydroxyflavone was shown to possess cytoprotective properties against oxidative stress by scavenging intracellular ROS and enhancing Akt activity.</P>
