Automatic media data rating based on class probability output networks

Rosas, Harvey,Kil, Rhee Man,Seungwan Han IEEE 2010 IEEE transactions on consumer electronics Vol.56 No.4

This paper presents a novel method of classifying media data whether they include X-rated contents or not. In our work, the classification of media data is performed using the class probability output network (CPON) which estimates the conditional class probability. Consequently, the classification of media data can be done using the degree of confidence for the class membership, not just using the discriminant value which is usually used in many classification problems. Furthermore, the accuracy of the estimated conditional class probability can be measured in the suggested CPON and this gives a good guideline for the final decision of classification. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested method, the simulation for automatic media rating of the data sampled from multimedia data streams in the Internet was performed. We showed that the suggested CPON-based method provides the better performance than other classifiers using discriminant functions.

Myricetin Inhibition of Peptidoglycan-Induced COX-2 Expression in H9c2 Cardiomyocytes

2019 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.24 No.2

Peptidoglycan (PGN) is a cell wall constituent in dental plaque bacteria that triggers inflammatory responses. PGN binds Toll-like receptors, leading to increases in prostaglandin E2 and interleukin-1β, which play crucial roles in the inflammatory response and tissue destruction. Dental surgery can give plaque bacteria access to blood circulation, thereby creating a risk of septic inflammation of the endocardium. Plant-derived flavonoids have been reported to reduce inflammatory cytokine secretion by host cells. In the present study, we investigated the effects of flavonoid myricetin on expression of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) in the H9c2 cells treated with PGN from Streptococcus sanguinis, a bacterial constituent of dental plaque associated with infective endocarditis. Myricetin exposure resulted in dose-dependent suppression of PGN-induced COX-2 expression, diminished phosphorylation of p38, extracellular signal regulated kinase 1/2, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and reduced IκB-α degradation, consistent with decreased COX-2 activity. In conclusion, the aforementioned results suggest that myricetin is useful for moderating the inflammatory response in infective endocarditis.

Robust Synchronization of Arrays of Lagrangian Systems

        David Rosas,Joaquin Alvarez,Daniel Hernandez,Ervin Alvarez 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2010 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.8 No.5

A new technique to synchronize arrays of uncertain, disturbed Lagrangian systems, where the synchro-nization signals use only the position measurement, is proposed. The technique, robust with respect to some kinds of connection losses and matched disturbances, can be applied to different topologies whose connection matrix is not necessarily symmetric. The design of the coupling signals is based on a discontinuous robust observer that identifies, at the same time, the velocity vector and any matched disturbance containing unknown terms, parameter uncertainty, or unknown external perturbations. This estimated disturbance is incorporated in the coupling signal to compensate the real perturbations, improving significantly the synchronization performance. The technique is illustrated with numerical simulations and some experiments carried on some real systems.

New Record of Sargassum filicinum Harvey (Fucales, Phaeophyceae) in the Pacific Coast of Mexico

        Aguilar-Rosas, Luis E.,Aguilar-Rosas, Raul,Kawai, Hiroshi,Uwai, Shinya,Valenzuela-Espinoza, Enrique The Korean Society of Phycology 2007 ALGAE Vol.22 No.1

Sargassum filicinum Harvey, a brown alga (Phaeophyceae) native to Northeastern Asia, has been recently reported from the coast of Southern California (USA). Here we report the occurrence and range extension of this introduced species, as we found the alga at La Jolla and Rancho Packard in Todos Santos Bay, Baja California, Mexico. The first collections of S. filicinum correspond to several immature plants, found on September 8, 2005, drifting in the intertidal zone at La Jolla. Later on November 9, 2006, we found a well-established population in Rancho Packard in the middle intertidal zone to 2 m depth. Since S. filicinum is an annual monoecious species with air bladders, the risk there is a high risk of spreading rapidly along the Pacific, as in the case for S. muticum. The population in Rancho Packard extends 500 m along the coast, consisting mainly of young plants with an average length of 30 cm and a density of 5 thallus/m2. This is the first record of this invasive species for the Mexican Pacific coast, and it represents the southern limit along the Pacific coast of North America. This finding suggests that this invasive species has successfully colonized the Pacific coast of North America and its distributional range is still expanding.

Empresas forestales comunitarias y cooperativismo autogestionario: una aproximación teórico-practica

Vol.15 No.1

The Communitarian Forestry Enterprises emerged at the end of the last century with the struggle for the re-appropriation of nature held indigenous and peasant communities in Latin America, these companies give life to a social, economic and ecological alternative dynamic, which is identified as way of overcoming of results being generated by the capitalist forest industry. However, it also presents problems related to the type of enterprise management, which cannot be addressed without a theoretical approach that accounts for the main features that have these businesses. This paper provides elements for an approach through commonality and cooperative self-management the phenomenon of Communitarian Forestry Enterprises and its main problems. It is used the case of Community Forest Enterprise of San Pedro el Alto, Oaxaca, Mexico to discuss the problems identified by employees of the company through a qualitative analysis used as data collection tools questionnaires and participatory methodology. We conclude that the cooperative has the main features of the community forest enterprises and their problems are similar, however, have differences in the management of natural resources and scope in terms of progress for the community.

In vitro regeneration of Lycaste aromatica (Graham ex Hook) Lindl. (Orchidaceae) from pseudobulb sections

        Mata-Rosas, Martin,Baltazar-Garcia, Rosario J.,Moon, Pamela,Hietz, Peter,Luna-Monterrojo, Victor E. The Korean Society of Plant Biotechnology 2010 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.4 No.2

A protocol for in vitro propagation from pseudobulb sections of Lycaste armomatica (Graham ex Hook) Lindl., an ornamental and fragrant orchid, was developed. The effect of four cytokinins: kinetin (K), metatopolin (mT), $N^6$-benzyladenine (BA), and thidiazuron (TDZ), in equimolar concentrations, was investigated. Shoot formation from apical and basal pseudobulb sections was obtained in all treatments. A few medial sections cultured in media supplemented with BA formed protocorm-like bodies. Shoot formation was greater from the basal section than the apical, and mainly occurred in explants cultured in media containing TDZ. The highest average numbers of shoots per explant were achieved from basal sections cultured in media supplemented with TDZ at 4.4, 8.87 and 2.2 ${\mu}M$, forming on average 9.9, 8.6 and 7.3 shoots per explant, respectively. Since the medial pseudobulb section was the worst explant for propagation of L. aromatica, we recommend that pseudobulbs be divided into two sections; the basal half should be cultured in MS medium supplemented with TDZ at 4.4 ${\mu}M$ and the apical half with TDZ at 2.2 ${\mu}M$. Subculturing individual shoots in MS medium without plant growth regulators allows further development and rooting. A survival rate of more than 90% under greenhouse conditions was achieved. This research represents a direct contribution to the conservation and sustainable use of this valuable natural resource.

Diversity of Fungi in Soils with Different Degrees of Degradation in Germany and Panama

        ( Miguel Rosas-medina ),( Jose G. Maci_a-vicente ),( Meike Piepenbring ) 한국균학회 2020 Mycobiology Vol.48 No.1

Soil degradation can have an impact on the soil microbiota, but its specific effects on soil fungal communities are poorly understood. In this work, we studied the impact of soil degradation on the richness and diversity of communities of soil fungi, including three different degrees of degradation in Germany and Panama. Soil fungi were isolated monthly using the soil-sprinkling method for 8 months in Germany and 3 months in Panama, and characterized by morphological and molecular data. Soil physico-chemical properties were measured and correlated with the observed values of fungal diversity. We isolated a total of 71 fungal species, 47 from Germany, and 32 from Panama. Soil properties were not associated with fungal richness, diversity, or composition in soils, with the exception of soil compaction in Germany. The geographic location was a strong determinant of the soil fungal species composition although in both countries there was dominance by members of the orders Eurotiales and Hypocreales. In conclusion, the results of this work do not show any evident influence of soil degradation on communities of soil fungi in Germany or Panama.

New Records of Marine Rhodophyta from the Pacific Coast of Mexico

        Aguilar-Rosas, Raul,Aguilar-Rosas , Luis E.,Mateo-Cid, Luz Elena,Mendoza-Gonzalez, Catalina The Korean Society of Phycology 2007 ALGAE Vol.22 No.3

Two species of marine red algae, Jania ungulata (Yendo) Yendo f. brevior (Yendo) Yendo and Peyssonnelia japonica (Segawa) Yoneshigue (Rhodophyta) were collected for the first time from Mexican Pacific coast. Their vegetative and reproductive structures are described, as well as the habitat where they were found and their geographical distribution along the Pacific coasts of Mexico. Jania ungulata f. brevior is a commonly growing epiphytic and Peyssonnelia japonica is epiphyte. The fact that we found this new records in Mexican coast is noteworthy, due that this species are originally described in Japanese coast. The absence of records of this species in the Mexican coast is likely related in part to the lack of specific collections and the fact that the specimens are small and delicate, and may commonly be unnoticed during samplings.

Empresas forestales comunitarias y cooperativismo autogestionario : una aproximación teórico-practica

Vol.15 No.1

3D Localization of a Mobile Robot by Using Monte Carlo Algorithm and 2D Features of 3D Point Cloud

2020 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.18 No.11

Modern buildings are designed with wheelchair accessibility, giving an opportunity for wheeled robots to navigate through sloped areas while avoiding staircases. Nonetheless, working safely and autonomously in uneven or unstructured environments is still challenging for mobile robots. Herein, we propose the use of a point cloud treatment and Monte Carlo localization in an algorithm for 3D localization of a mobile robot in uneven and unstructured environments. The point cloud treatment consists of projecting the acquired 3D point cloud and generated2D features. These features are used to recreate an occupancy map. To perform localization in real-time, the robot systems use the occupancy map and 2D features as input in conjunction with the Monte Carlo algorithm.
