Probing the Source of the Proton Mass by "Unbreaking" Scale-Chiral Symmetry
Mannque Rho 한국물리학회 2016 새물리 Vol.66 No.12
I describe a possible scenario for the origin of the proton mass in terms of the Cheshire Cat, half-skyrmions, topology change and interplay between hidden chiral-scale symmetry and induced local symmetry. This differs from the standard constituent-quark scenario. As the baryonic matter density is increased toward the vector manifestation (VM) fixed-point at which the $\rho$ mass is to vanish, the effective in-medium mass ratio $m^*_\rho/m^*_N$ tends to zero proportionally to $g^*_\rho$, where $g^*_\rho$ is the in-medium hidden gauge coupling constant. I develop the thesis that the intricacy involved in the mass generation can be decoded from experiments at RIB accelerators and data on massive compact stars.

American Literary Canon of Pre-Columbian Era in Elizabeth Chesley Baity’s Americans before Columbus
( Rho¸ Heongyun ) 동국대학교 영어권문화연구소 2017 영어권문화연구 Vol.10 No.2
This paper analyzes the American canon of pre-Columbian era in Elizabeth Baity’s Americans before Columbus, a winner of Newbery Honor prize in 1952. As Raymond Williams pinpoints “the selective tradition” as one of the essential characteristics in canonical texts, Baity’s “selective” perspectives towards pre-Columbian Indians have been influential in making stereotypes of Indians. Devon Mihesuah elaborates twenty five stereotypes: “Indians are all alike”; “Indians were conquered because they were inferior”; “Indians have no religion”; “Indians are a vanished race” etc. On one hand, Baity has recorded meticulously the past histories of the Americas in pre-Columbian era with pictures and illustrations. On the other hand, she “selectively” agreed with the discourses in American studies: Crosby’s ecological imperialism; the settlement, not colonization, theory of the Americas; Columbus as a hero rather than bullies; the primitiveness of the Indians vs the civilization of Euro-Americans. The main audiences of Baity’s book are children attending public schools. Once familiar with the stereotypes of Indians in their early age, they will accept without doubt similar images of Indians from such college textbooks as American Roots and A New Introduction to American Studies they read within classrooms. What is missing in Baity’s book is the discourses to bridge the two big paradigms, America before Columbus and America after Columbus, from complementary standards. The addition to the missing part will keep the Newbery Honor book free from the polemics of political correctness.

Treatment with gefitinib, a specific inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase (EGFR-TK), has resulted in dramatic responses in some patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Most patients who respond to gefitinib have EGFR-TK mutations; however, >10% of patients with EGFR-TK mutations do not respond. Similarly, some patients without EGFR-TK mutations respond to this drug, suggesting that other factors determine sensitivity to gefitinib. Aberrations of the tumor suppressor gene p53 are frequently associated with drug resistance. In this study, we investigated the role of p53 in growth-inhibitory and apoptotic effects of gefitinib in the human NSCLC cell lines NCI-H1299 and A549, which have no EGFR-TK mutations. NCI-H1299 cells, which had a p53-null genotype, were more resistant to gefitinib compared with A549 cells, which were wild-type p53 (IC(50), 40 micromol/L in NCI-H1299 and 5 micromol/L in A549). Treatment of A549 with gefitinib resulted in the translocation of p53 from cytosol to nucleus and the up-regulation of Fas, which was localized to the plasma membrane. In the stable H1299 cell line with tetracycline-inducible p53 expression, induced p53 enhanced growth inhibition and apoptosis by gefitinib through the up-regulation of Fas and restoration of caspase activation. A caspase inhibitor, Z-VAD-fmk, reduced these effects. Conversely, inhibition of p53 using antisense oligonucleotide in A549 caused a significant decrease in apoptosis by gefitinib and down-regulation of Fas under the same conditions. In conclusion, p53 may play a role in determining gefitinib sensitivity by regulating Fas expression in NSCLC.

CANCELLED: INFLUENCERS, CONSUMERS AND THE END OF A PARASOCIAL RELATIONSHIP
Rhonwyn K. Vaudrey 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07
Cancel culture is a social media phenomenon that targets someone for bad behavior in a process of public shaming, or, being “cancelled”. I use qualitative analysis methods to identify elements of cancel culture’s narrative, and how cancel culture is representative of the end of a parasocial relationship.
Role of Precore Region in the Expression of Hepatitis B viral core Antigen
Rho, Hyune Mo,Kim, Seong Kee,Kim, Yong Sok 한국유전학회 1987 Genes & Genomics Vol.9 No.4
The coding sequence of HBcAg in the HBV genome contains two in-phase initiation codon, one for precore region and the other for core antigen gene. To investigate the effect of precore region on the expression of Hepatitis B viral core antigen gene, we have cloned core antigen gene with or without precore region in various expression vectors containing SV40 promoter, yeast and E. coli system. When the plasmids containing precore region were transfected to cos cells, the expression of HBcAg and that of a related antigen, HBeAg, were detected only in cell extracts in spite of the presence of precore region could not affect antigen secretion in these two systems.
