Bicycle-Sharing Systems (BSS) are growing quickly in popularity all over the world. In this article, we propose a method based on Nonnegative Matrix Factorization to study the typical temporal patterns of usage of the BSS of Lyon, France, by studying logs of rentals. First, we show how this approach allows us to understand the spatial and temporal usage of the system. Second, we show how we can track the evolution of these temporal patterns over several years, and how this information can be used to better understand the BSS, but also changes in the city itself, by considering the stations as social sensors.

Background One of the most frequent complications after endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) for resection of pituitary tumors is cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. With the introduction of the pedicled nasoseptal flap, the reconstruction of the skull base has improved significantly resulting in a decrease in the occurrence of persistent CSF leaks. We present our experience utilizing the pedicled nasoseptal flap technique after EEA for reconstruction of the skull base in cases where CSF leak was detected. Methods Data for patients undergoing EEA for pituitary tumors was retrospectively reviewed. These included demographic, clinical, operative, radiographic, and pathological information. Incidence of post-operative complications and CSF leaks were recorded. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed. Results Between 2008 and 2015, 67 patients and 69 hospital admissions with pituitary tumors underwent a nasoseptal flap to reconstruct a skull base defect at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The mean age at surgery was 54.5±14.2 years. Fifty-two percent of patients were male. Forty-six percent of patients were white, 33% African-American, and 12% belonged to other racial groups. There was an intraoperative CSF leak in 39% of patients. Seventy percent of patients with an intraoperative CSF leak had a nasoseptal flap reconstruction of the skull base. There were zero postoperative CSF leaks. Conclusion With the introduction of the pedicled nasoseptal flap for reconstruction of the skull base after EEA for resection of pituitary adenomas, the incidence of postoperative CSF leaks has decreased significantly. In this retrospective analysis, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the use of nasoseptal flap in repairing CSF leak after EEA.

The present study examined the use of prosody in semantic and syntactic disambiguation by means of comparison between Japanese and Chinese speakers` production of English sentences. In Chinese and Japanese, lexical prosody is more prominent than sentence prosody, and the sentential meaning contrast is usually realized through particles or a change in word order instead of prosodic cues. In order to find out whether Chinese and Japanese speakers of English can produce prosodic differences when they are aware of the syntactic and semantic ambiguity of the sentence, a read-aloud experiment was conducted. The results indicated that both Japanese and Chinese speakers were able to represent the difference of meaning by means of pause and the rising or falling of pitch at the final position of a sentence, which was reflected by their performance on boundary and tag questions. However, it was difficult for them to represent the difference of focus and phrase structure type merely by means of prosody. These findings suggest that some aspects of English prosody, such as a compound accent that is opposite to that of Japanese and Chinese, a phrasal accent that is peculiar to some degree, and an emphatic focus, require more consideration than other aspects. Furthermore, regardless of whether they are Japanese or Chinese learners of English, learners should expend more time and concentration on practicing the specific patterns of prosody that relate to semantic or syntactic disambiguation in English.

This article examines (1) the concept of strategic partnerships and how Australia and the United States have attempted to leverage these to their advantage; (2) the US concept of an ‘Indo-Pacific Operating System’; (3) the decision the Australian government made to switch to nuclear-powered submarines; and, (4) the potential implications of AUKUS for nuclear non-proliferation. The article argues that AUKUS is a new form of strategic partnership that establishes unprecedented benchmarks for US technology-sharing and defence integration between allies.

In automotive industry, the weight is an important factor in the choice of a supplier. This is in this condition that Faurecia look for the lightest solution in the products, especially exhaust systems. And so it is developing light system using new manufacturing method with combination of the welding. Tn the process of a muffler, short stamped end cap and baffles are inserted with gap in an envelope that is a simple rolled sheet of coil. A machine could compress locally the assembly on the welded areas in order to remove the gap and enable welding in very good condition on very thin sheet of metal. By the reduction of thickness in the components, the muffler can be lighter and lighter and durability becomes the only limit in the use of the thinnest components.
