      • Generalized Analysis of Gasifier Performance using Equilibrium Modeling

        Ravikiran, Anapagaddi,Renganathan, Thiruvengadam,Pushpavanam, Subramaniam,Voolapalli, Ravi Kumar,Cho, Young Sang American Chemical Society 2012 INDUSTRIAL & ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY RESEARCH - Vol.51 No.4

<P>Thermodynamic modeling of gasification process provides a quick estimate of performance of the gasifier. Most of the earlier work on thermodynamic modeling is restricted to a particular feedstock–gasification agent combination and hence the results cannot be generalized. In the present work, the equilibrium modeling based on Gibb’s free energy minimization approach is used to analyze the performance of gasification of any fuel using oxygen or steam. The performance is analyzed at the carbon boundary point at which the cold gas efficiency is maximum. The gasification temperature, amount of gasification agent required, composition of syngas, and cold gas efficiency are predicted using Aspen Plus. The results are presented as contour plots on Van Krevelen coordinates (<I>H/C</I> vs <I>O/C</I>) and interpreted based on simplified gasification reactions. The performance for different feedstocks represented in Van Krevelen diagram is also analyzed. Finally, advantage of cogasification of feedstocks is highlighted.</P>

Liquid petroleum gas sensing performance of polyanilinecarboxymethyl cellulose composite at room temperature

        Y.T. Ravikiran,S. Kotresh,S.C. Vijayakumari,S. Thomas 한국물리학회 2014 Current Applied Physics Vol.14 No.7

In the present research, liquid petroleum gas (LPG) sensing properties of polyaniline-carboxymethyl cellulose (PANI-CMC) composite have been investigated. For the purpose of investigation, PANI and PANI-CMC composite are synthesized at room temperature by chemical polymerization of aniline without/with CMC. The prepared materials are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Shift in d-space of PANI in the composite as confirmed by its XRD analysis suggests ordered PANI chain arrangement in the composite. Surface morphology and size of the particles are studied by SEM technique. Nature of the material and mechanism of conduction of both PANI and PANI-CMC composite are investigated by studying complex plane impedance plot in the frequency range of 102e106 Hz. Based on structural characterizations and impedance studies, sensitivity of PANI and PANI-CMC composite to LPG at room temperature are tested and compared. Further, to examine the efficiency of the composite as a sensor, its stability, recovery and response time have also been studied with a special focus on its ability to work at room temperature.

Computational design of mould sprue for injection moulding thermoplastics

Lakkannan, Muralidhar,Mohan Kumar, G.C.,Kadoli, Ravikiran Society for Computational Design and Engineering 2016 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.3 No.1

To injection mould polymers, designing mould is a key task involving several critical decisions with direct implications to yield quality, productivity and frugality. One prominent decision among them is specifying sprue-bush conduit expansion as it significantly influences overall injection moulding; abstruseness anguish in its design criteria deceives direct determination. Intuitively designers decide it wisely and then exasperate by optimising or manipulating processing parameters. To overwhelm that anomaly this research aims at proposing an ideal design criteria holistically for all polymeric materials also tend as a functional assessment metric towards perfection i.e., criteria to specify sprue conduit size before mould development. Accordingly, a priori analytical criterion was deduced quantitatively as expansion ratio from ubiquitous empirical relationships specifically a.k.a an exclusive expansion angle imperatively configured for injectant properties. Its computational intelligence advantage was leveraged to augment functionality of perfectly injecting into an impression gap, while synchronising both injector capacity and desired moulding features. For comprehensiveness, it was continuously sensitised over infinite scale as an explicit factor dependent on in-situ spatio-temporal injectant state perplexity with discrete slope and altitude for each polymeric character. In which congregant ranges of apparent viscosity and shear thinning index were conceived to characteristically assort most thermoplastics. Thereon results accorded aggressive conduit expansion widening for viscous incrust, while a very aggressive narrowing for shear thinning encrust; among them apparent viscosity had relative dominance. This important rationale would certainly form a priori design basis as well diagnose filling issues causing several defects. Like this the proposed generic design criteria, being simple would immensely benefit mould designers besides serve as an inexpensive preventive cliché to moulders. Its adaption ease to practice manifests a hope of injection moulding extremely alluring polymers. Therefore, we concluded that appreciating injectant's polymeric character to design exclusive sprue bush offers a definite a priori advantage.

Chemoport-A Savior in Children Who Require Chronic Venous Access: An Observational Study

Veerabhadra Radhakrishna,Chittur Narendra Radhakrishnan,Ravikiran Cheelenahalli Srinivasa Rao,Gollamandala Kireeti 대한혈관외과학회 2019 Vascular Specialist International Vol.35 No.3

Purpose: Long-term venous access is cumbersome in children because of their thin caliber veins, less cooperative nature, and easy compromise of venous integrity. Hence, a study was conducted to evaluate the indication, efficacy, and safety of chemoport in children who require chronic venous access. Materials and Methods: Children who underwent chemoport insertion between January 2008 and December 2017 were retrospectively evaluated. Results: A total of 159 children (169 chemoports) were included in the study. The most common indication for chemoport insertion was acute lymphoblastic leukemia (51.5%). The mean chemoport days were 832±666 days. Among the 169 chemoports, 55.0% were removed after treatment completion. The chemoport was not removed in 35.5% of the patients, as 28.4% of the patients were still under treatment and 7.1% died during the treatment. Sixteen patients (0.1 per 1,000 chemoport days) had a premature chemoport removal. The indications were portrelated bloodstream infection (12 patients), port pocket infection (1 patient), exposed chemoport (1 patient), and blocked chemoport catheter (2 patients). Twentytwo patients (0.15 per 1,000 chemoport days) had complications of port-related bloodstream infection (0.09 per 1,000 chemoport days), making it the most common. Other complications include block, fracture, arrhythmias, avulsion, bleeding, decubitus-over-port, and port pocket infection. Conclusion: Owing to the safe, reliable, and low complication rate of chemoports, more children can be saved from deadly illnesses. Chemoport is the best option for children who require chronic venous access.
