Optimization of steel-concrete composite beams considering cost and environmental impact

Andréia Fátima Tormen,Zacarias Martin Chamberlain Pravia,Fernando Busato Ramires,Moacir Kripka 국제구조공학회 2020 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.34 No.3

In the optimized structure sizing, the optimization methods are inserted in this context in order to obtain satisfactory solutions, which can provide more economical structures, besides allowing the consideration of the factors related to the environmental impacts in the structural design. This work proposes a mathematical model for the optimization of steel-concrete composite beams aiming to minimize the monetary cost and the environmental impact, using the Harmonic Search optimization method. Discrete variables were the dimensions of the steel profiles and the thickness of the collaborating slab of the composite steel-concrete beam. The proposed model was implemented in Fortran programming language and based on improvements in the structure of the optimization method proposed by Medeiros and Kripka (2017). To prove the effectiveness and applicability of the model, as well as the Harmonic Search method, analyzes were performed with different configurations of steel-concrete composite beams, in order to provide guidelines that make the use of these systems more streamlined. In general, the Harmonic Search optimization method has proved to be efficient in the search for the optimized solutions, as well as important considerations on the optimization of the monetary and environmental costs of steel-concrete composite beams were obtained from the developed examples.

A new extended Birnbaum-Saunders model with cure fraction: classical and Bayesian approach

Ortega, Edwin M.M.,Cordeiro, Gauss M.,Suzuki, Adriano K.,Ramires, Thiago G. The Korean Statistical Society 2017 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.24 No.4

A four-parameter extended fatigue lifetime model called the odd Birnbaum-Saunders geometric distribution is proposed. This model extends the odd Birnbaum-Saunders and Birnbaum-Saunders distributions. We derive some properties of the new distribution that include expressions for the ordinary moments and generating and quantile functions. The method of maximum likelihood and a Bayesian approach are adopted to estimate the model parameters; in addition, various simulations are performed for different parameter settings and sample sizes. We propose two new models with a cure rate called the odd Birnbaum-Saunders mixture and odd Birnbaum-Saunders geometric models by assuming that the number of competing causes for the event of interest has a geometric distribution. The applicability of the new models are illustrated by means of ethylene data and melanoma data with cure fraction.

Interactive Conflict Detection and Resolution for Personalized Features

Amyot Daniel,Gray Tom,Liscano Ramir,Logrippo Luigi,Sincennes Jacques The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2005 Journal of communications and networks Vol.7 No.3

In future telecommunications systems, behaviour will be defined by inexperienced users for many different purposes, often by specifying requirements in the form of policies. The call processing language (CPL) was developed by the IETF in order to make it possible to define telephony policies in an Internet telephony environment. However, user-defined policies can hide inconsistencies or feature interactions. In this paper, a method and a tool are proposed to flag inconsistencies in a set of policies and to assist the user in correcting them. These policies can be defined by the user in a user-friendly language or derived automatically from a CPL script. The approach builds on a pre-existing logic programming tool that is able to identify inconsistencies in feature definitions. Our new tool is capable of explaining in user-oriented terminology the inconsistencies flagged, to suggest possible solutions, and to implement the chosen solution. It is sensitive to the types of features and interactions that will be created by naive users. This tool is also capable of assembling a set of individual policies specified in a user-friendly manner into a single CPL script in an appropriate priority order for execution by telecommunication systems.
