        Accuracy of Ultrasonography in Early Pregnancy Diagnosis in Doe

        The present study was undertaken to evaluate the accuracy of ultrasonography in early pregnancy diagnosis in goats. Ultrasonographic scanning with real time B-mode ultrasound machine having 5 MHz linear array transducer was performed on gravid uterus (n=24) obtained from slaughterhouse (Group I). Crown rump length (CRL) measured by ultrasound was found significantly different (p<0.05) with actual CRL measured after dissection in early pregnancy. However, age predicted by ultrasound through the measurement of CRL was found highly correlated (r=0.92) with age measured after dissection through CRL and the weight of fetus. Ages predicted by ultrasound through the measurement of trunk diameter (TD) and uterine diameter (UD) and ages measured after dissection were found highly and equally correlated (r=0.98) and did not differ significantly. Data from six does synchronized (Group II) with PGF2$\alpha$ (Estrumate) at 11 days apart were collected through ultrasound from 17 to 42 days post breding. The correlation between CRL and gestational age was high (r=0.97) in day 30 to 42 post breeding. A high coefficient of correlation (r=0.98) was also observed between predicated age by ultrasound and actual age calculated after kidding. The correlation between CRL and gestational age by the formula Y=(a+bX) i.e. Y=24.42+0.39 X where Y=gestational age and X=CRL, was recorded very high (r=0.99). Accuracy of ultrasonography was lowest on day 17 to 19 (66%) and reached 100% on day 34. Data from 30 does (group III) randomly subjected to only one time ultrasounds scanning to assess the accuracy of pregnancy diagnosis were also obtained. Ages predicted by TD and UD measurements were observed to be non-significantly different with actual age obtained after kidding and correlation between ages predicted by TD and UD measurement with actual age after kidding was found equally and highly correlated (r=0.98). The operator's accuracy in the whole experiment including all three groups was found to be 92%. The sensitivity was 93% and specificity was 86%. From the present study, it was observed that CRL was the most reliable parameter to find out gestational age in early pregnancy and the new formula derived was found very accurate to find out gestational age. TD and UD were also found to be equally reliable parameter to find out gestational age in mid and late stage of pregnancy through ultrasonography. It was concluded that ultrasonography by real time B mode with 5 MHz transrectal transducer was found to be reliable, safe and accurate and practicable means in diagnosing early pregnancy diagnosis as early as 25 days post breeding.

        Thermodynamic Analyses of Multiple Evaporators Vapor Compression Refrigeration Systems with R410A, R290, R1234YF, R502, R404A, R152A and R134A

        In this paper, comparative thermodynamic analysis of system-1 (multiple evaporators and compressorswith individual expansion valves) and system-2 (multiple evaporators and compressorswith multiple expansion valves) has been presented which is based on energy and exergy principles. The comparison of systems-1 and -2 using ecofriendly R410A, R290, R1234YF, R502,R404A, R152A and R134A refrigerants was done in terms of COP (energetic effciency), exergeticeffciency and system defect. Numerical model has been developed for systems-1 and -2 for ¯ndingout irreversibility and it was observed that system-2 is better system in comparison with system-1for selected refrigerants. It was also found that R152a shows better performances than otherconsidered refrigerants for both systems.

      • Fabrication, growth mechanism and antibacterial activity of ZnO micro-spheres prepared via solution process

        This paper presents the high antibacterial activity of ZnO micro-spheres prepared via solution process using zinc nitrate hexahydrate, (+) l-cysteine, HMT and sodium hydroxide against four pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The antibacterial activity of ZnO micro-spheres was studied via nutrient broth medium at different concentrations (5μg/ml-45μg/ml) of ZnO micro-spheres. Our investigation reveals that the lowest concentration of micro-spheres solution inhibits the growth of microbial strain, which was found to be 5μg/ml for S. aureus, S. typhimurium and K. pneumoniae whereas for E. coli, it was calculated to be 15μg/ml. The diameter of each micro-sphere lie between 2 and 3μm as observed from FESEM and Transmission electron microscopy. The composition of synthesized material was analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy and it shows the band of ZnO at 462cm<SUP>-1</SUP>. Additionally, on the basis of morphological and chemical observations the growth mechanism of ZnO micro-spheres was also proposed.

        Preparation and characterization of highly conducting and transparent Al doped CdO thin films by pulsed laser deposition

        Highly conducting and transparent aluminum doped CdO thin films were deposited using pulsed laser deposition technique. The effect of growth temperature on structural, electrical, and optical properties was studied. It is observed that the film orientation changes from preferred (111) plane to (200) plane with increase in growth temperature. The electrical resistivity of the films was found to increase with increase in growth temperature. The low resistivity of 4.3 × 10-5 Ωcm and high transparency (~85%) was obtained for the film grown at 150 ℃. The band gap of the films varies from 2.74 eV to 2.84 eV.

        Temperature and Phase-space Density of a Cold Atom Cloud in a Quadrupole Magnetic Trap

        We present studies on modifications in the temperature, number density and phase-space densitywhen a laser-cooled atom cloud from optical molasses is trapped in a quadrupole magnetic trap. Theoretically, for a given temperature and size of the cloud from the molasses, the phase-spacedensity in the magnetic trap is shown first to increase with increasing magnetic field gradient andthen to decrease with it after attaining a maximum value at an optimum value of the magneticfieldgradient. The experimentally-measured variation in the phase-space density in the magnetictrap with changing magnetic field gradient is shown to exhibit a similar trend. However, theexperimentally-measured values of the number density and the phase-space density are much lowerthan the theoretically-predicted values. This is attributed to the experimentally-observed temperaturein the magnetic trap being higher than the theoretically-predicted temperature. Nevertheless,these studies can be useful for setting a higher phase-space density in the trap by establishing anoptimal value of the field gradient for a quadrupole magnetic trap.

        Microstructure, dielectric relaxation, optical, and ferroelectric studies of a lead-free double perovskite: BaLiFeMoO6

        In this article, the influence of co-substitution of alkali and transition metals at the Ba/Mo site of host BaMoO4 (inorganic Scheelite) is reported. A new lead-free double perovskite BaLiFeMoO6 (BLFMO) is synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction route, having tetragonal crystal symmetry with an average crystallite size of 93.2 nm and strain of 0.115%. Grains are grown by sintering and distributed uniformly through well-defined grain boundaries as obtained from scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The purity and compositional analysis through energy-dispersive analysis X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) technique confirms the presence of constituent elements Ba, Li, Fe, Mo, and O. Raman study supports the substitution of Li/Fe atoms at Ba and Mo sites in the host matrix. Direct bandgap energy of 2.99 eV is calibrated using the ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectrum; may be suitable for photovoltaic applications. Maxwell–Wagner dielectric response, non-Debye relaxation, activation energy, and negative temperature coefficient resistance (NTCR) behavior are the outcomes of the synthesized sample characterized using dielectric, impedance, modulus, and conductivity plots in a wider spectrum of frequency (1 kHz–1 MHz) and temperatures (25–500 °C). The contribution of both grains and grain boundaries in the conduction mechanism has been investigated using Nyquist's fitting data calibrated from ZSIMPWIN software. A decrease in the magnitude of grain boundary resistance with a rise in temperature in fitted Nyquist's plot suggests the presence of semiconducting nature in the material. Analysis of leakage current density suggests that the nature of the conduction mechanism follows to the space charge limited current process. The study of temperature-dependent resistance supports BLFMO as a good candidate for NTC thermistor-related device applications. The study of polarization–electric field hysteresis loop suggests the possibility of the ferroelectric nature in the studied sample.

        A Comparison of Pulsed and Continuous Atom Transfer between Two Magneto-optical Traps

        We present the experimental results for a comparison between pulsed and continuous transfer of cold 87Rb atoms between a vapor chamber magneto-optical trap (VC-MOT) and an ultra-highvacuum magneto-optical trap (UHV-MOT) when using a resonant push beam. We find that employing repetitive cycles of a pulsed and unfocused push beam on an unsaturated VC-MOT cloud results in a significantly higher number of atoms transferred to the UHV-MOT than the number obtained with a continuous push beam focused on a continuous VC-MOT. In pulsed transfer, we find that both the VC-MOT loading duration and the push beam duration play important roles in the transfer process and govern the number of atoms transferred to the UHV-MOT. The parameters and processes affecting the transfer have been investigated and are discussed.
