      • [기조발제·KEYNOTE] China`s Evolving Policy towards Korea and the U.S. Factor

Quansheng Zhao(췐성 자오) 전남대학교 글로벌디아스포라연구소 2015 전남대학교 세계한상문화연구단 국제학술회의 Vol.2015 No.6

This paper analyzes the evolution of Chinese foreign policy toward the two Koreas and the influence of the U.S. factor. It presents three approaches of Beijing’s view toward conflict in the Korea Peninsula. First, the history-embedded approach—Chinese foreign policy has traditionally been influenced by historical legacies, not only over the past couple of centuries, but also in recent years by their experience in the Cold War. Second, the national-interest driven approach—China’s concerns have gradually shifted to emphasize economic modernization, ever since Deng Xiaoping’s opening and reform policy. Foreign policy priority has shifted to national interests, instead of ideology. Third, the co-management approach—when entering the 21st Century, China’s foreign policy project has to correspond with its increasing status in global politics. The U.S. factor has become even more prominent in China’s strategic calculation towards the Korean Peninsula. This requires Beijing to adopt a co-management policy with Washington, as well as other regional players. The case of the Six Party Talks in the recent decade has presented a vivid example of co-management, where both Beijing and Washington exercise leadership roles ensuring the stability of the Korea Peninsula.1 This paper will also present my assessment of Beijing’s Korea policy with records of both successes and failures. In the end, the paper will discuss future directions of the complicated relationship between China and the two Koreas. A top priority of Chinese foreign policy is to maintain peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula. In a statement from July 2014, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of the denuclearization of the Korea Peninsula through peaceful negotiations as which was the aim of the Six-Party Talks outlined in September 2005.2 Denuclearization will ensure stability and maintain peace in the region. As of January 2015, China has made efforts to resume the Six Party Talks with conditions to promote cooperation between the states.

MOVING TOWARD A CO-MANAGEMENT APPROACH:CHINA’S POLICY TOWARD NORTH KOREA AND TAIWAN

Quansheng Zhao 경남대학교 극동문제연구소 2006 ASIAN PERSPECTIVE Vol.30 No.1

This article analyzes Chinese foreign policy toward two flashpoints in East Asia: the Korean peninsula and the Taiwan Strait. It argues that there has been an evolution in terms of Beijing’s approaches toward these two international crises over time. One can discern three different approaches. First, historical legacies have always played a critical role in the formulation of China’s policy calculations and the Korea and Taiwan issues are no exception. I call this the “history-embedded” perspective. Second, with the recent rise of China’s economic and political might, nationalism in China has correspondingly been on the rise. National interests have been further prioritized over ideological considerations. This approach can be called “national interest-driven” foreign policy. Third, Beijing has become increasingly confident not only about its strengths in the world arena but also about its ability to coordinate with related powers regarding their various interests. This approach can be called “co-management of international crises” with major powers. The article argues that until recently China has emphasized the first two sets of considerations, but seems to be gradually moving toward a new approach, namely co-management with major powers.

Nonlinear machine fault detection by semi-supervised Laplacian Eigenmaps

Quansheng Jiang,Qixin Zhu,Bangfu Wang,Lihua Guo 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.8

A semi-supervised Laplacian Eigenmaps algorithm for machine fault detection is proposed. The purpose of the algorithm is to efficiently extract the manifold geometric characteristics of nonlinear vibration signal samples, and to determine fault classification of operating equipment so that the accuracy of fault detection can be improved. The data acquisition and pre-processing of the vibration signal is firstly implemented from monitoring equipment, then hybrid domain feature is obtained, and the initial sample set can be built. This is followed by implementing the semi-supervised Laplacian Eigenmaps algorithm so that the sensitive nature characteristics of manifold can be obtained from the device initial sample set. In order to establish the intelligent diagnostic model, the Least square Support vector machine (LS-SVM) is then adopted, which fault diagnosis and decisions can be achieved in the feature space of the low-dimensional manifold. The experiment results of using the IRIS data, gearbox and compressor fault data show the proposed method has more advantage when compared with the PCA and Laplacian Eigenmaps on improving the accuracy of fault detection.

Modal identification of Canton Tower under uncertain environmental conditions

Xijun Ye,Quansheng Yan,Weifeng Wang,Xiaolin Yu 국제구조공학회 2012 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.10 No.4

The instrumented Canton Tower is a 610 m high-rise structure, which has been considered as a benchmark problem for structural health monitoring (SHM) research. In this paper, an improved automatic modal identification method is presented based on a natural excitation technique in conjunction with the eigensystem realization algorithm (NExT/ERA). In the proposed modal identification method, damping ratio, consistent mode indicator from observability matrices (CMI_O) and modal amplitude coherence (MAC) are used as criteria to distinguish the physically true modes from spurious modes. Enhanced frequency domain decomposition (EFDD), the data-driven stochastic subspace identification method (SSI-DATA) and the proposed method are respectively applied to extract the modal parameters of the Canton Tower under different environmental conditions. Results of modal parameter identification based on output-only measurements are presented and discussed. User-selected parameters used in those methods are suggested and discussed. Furthermore, the effect of environmental conditions on the dynamic characteristics of Canton tower is investigated.

Experimental and Numerical Research on Uplift-Restricted and Slip-Permitted Screw-Shaped Connectors

        Yuxuan Chen,Quansheng Yan,Xiaolin Yu,Buyu Jia,Yu Wu,Yufan Luo 한국강구조학회 2022 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.22 No.1

Improving mechanical performance of the negative moment regions of continuous composite beams is essential for composite beam bridges. Uplift-restricted and slip-permitted (URSP) screw-shaped connectors can enhance the crack resistance of a concrete slab through free slip between the concrete slab and the steel beam. Furthermore, URSP screw-shaped connectors are more adaptable to the requirements of rapid construction than URSP T-shaped connectors. To investigate the slip and mechanical behavior of URSP screw-shaped connectors, nine push-out tests with various parameters were conducted. In these tests, the thickness of the foam sleeve wrapped outside the screw exerted a highly signifi cant eff ect on free slip performance. A refi ned 3D nonlinear fi nite element model with the foam’s constitutive model was established using ABAQUS. The stress mechanism and failure modes of the FE models were analyzed. Lastly, to estimate the slip performance of URSP screw-shaped connectors, an equation with a simple form was proposed via mechanism analysis and a regression method.

A Novel Hyperspectral Microscopic Imaging System for Evaluating Fresh Degree of Pork

        Yi Xu,Quansheng Chen,Yan Liu,Xin Sun,Qiping Huang,Qin Ouyang,Jiewen Zhao 한국축산식품학회 2018 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.38 No.2

This study proposed a rapid microscopic examination method for pork freshness evaluation by using the self-assembled hyperspectral microscopic imaging (HMI) system with the help of feature extraction algorithm and pattern recognition methods. Pork samples were stored for different days ranging from 0 to 5 days and the freshness of samples was divided into three levels which were determined by total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) content. Meanwhile, hyperspectral microscopic images of samples were acquired by HMI system and processed by the following steps for the further analysis. Firstly, characteristic hyperspectral microscopic images were extracted by using principal component analysis (PCA) and then texture features were selected based on the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). Next, features data were reduced dimensionality by fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) for further building classification model. Finally, compared with linear discriminant analysis (LDA) model and support vector machine (SVM) model, good back propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) model obtained the best freshness classification with a 100 % accuracy rating based on the extracted data. The results confirm that the fabricated HMI system combined with multivariate algorithms has ability to evaluate the fresh degree of pork accurately in the microscopic level, which plays an important role in animal food quality control.
