      • Clinical Comparison between Paclitaxel Liposome (Lipusu<sup>®</sup>) and Paclitaxel for Treatment of Patients with Metastatic Gastric Cancer

        Aim: To compare the efficacy and safety of paclitaxel liposome (Lipusu$^{(R)}$) with paclitaxel in combination with tegafur and oxaliplatin in treating patients with advanced gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: Patients with advanced gastric cancer receiving chemotherapy were retrospectively collected, and divided into two groups. Patients in group A received paclitaxel liposomes at a dose of 135 $mg/m^2$ on day 1 of each cycle, and patients in group B were given paclitaxel at the same dose with the same timing. All patients received tegafur at a dose of 500 $mg/m^2$ on days 1-5, and oxaliplatin at a dose of 80-100 $mg/m^2$ on day 1 for 2 cycles (each cycle was 21 d in total). Results: Fifty-eight patients could be evaluated for efficacy. The overall response rate was 47% in group A (14/30), and 46% in group B (13/28). Disease control rate was 73% in group A (22/30), and 71% in group B (20/28) (P>0.05). No significant differences were detected in hematologic and neurologic toxicities between the two groups (P>0.05). However, nausea, vomiting and hypersensitive reactions were significantly lower in group A than in group B (P<0.05). Conclusion: Paclitaxel liposomes are as effective as paclitaxel when combined with tegafur and oxaliplation in treating patients with advanced gastric cancer, but adverse reactions with paclitaxel liposomes are less common.

      • A Study on Rural Finance, Rural Industry Revitalization, and Rural Logistics Development: An Empirical Analysis Based on Panel Data from 30 Provinces in China

        Purpose - This is a study on the influence mechanism of rural finance and rural industrial revitalization on rural logistics development from rural revitalization strategy. Design/Methodology/Approach - We use panel data of 30 Chinese provinces from 2011 to 2020. A two-way fixed-effects model is constructed and mediated effects analysis and multiple regression analysis are used to analyze the dynamic relationship between rural finance, rural industrial revitalization, and rural logistics development. The dynamic relationship was empirically analyzed using mediated effects analysis and multiple regression analysis. Findings - Rural finance has a significant positive impact on rural logistics, and rural finance effectively promotes rural logistics development; rural finance affects rural logistics development by influencing the revitalization of rural industries, indicating that the revitalization of rural industries plays a mediating effect. The impact of rural finance on rural logistics is heterogeneous in the east, central, and west. Rural industry revitalization does not play a mediating role in the central era, comparing with an obvious mediating role in the east and west. Research Implications - The revitalization of rural industries as a transmission mechanism for rural finance to promote the development of rural logistics, and we verify the rationality of this transmission mechanism through a model to fill the gaps in the existing literature, thus providing a new research perspective for rural finance to promote the development of rural logistics, and providing some theoretical guidance and policy reference.

        Monitoring and control of wind-induced vibrations of hanger ropes of a suspension bridge

        In August 2012, during the passage of the typhoon Haikui (1211), large amplitude vibrations were observed on long hangers of the Xihoumen suspension Bridge, which destroyed a few viscoelastic dampers originally installed to connect a pair of hanger ropes transversely. The purpose of this study is to identify the cause of vibration and to develop countermeasures against vibration. Field measurements have been conducted in order to correlate the wind and vibration characteristics of hangers. Furthermore, a replica aeroelastic model of prototype hangers consisting of four parallel ropes was used to study the aeroelastic behavior of hanger ropes and to examine the effect of the rigid spacers on vibration mitigation. It is shown that the downstream hanger rope experiences the most violent elliptical vibration for certain wind direction, and the vibration is mainly attributed to wake interference of parallel hanger ropes. Based on wind tunnel tests and field validation, it is confirmed that four rigid spacers placed vertically at equal intervals are sufficient to suppress the wake-induced vibrations. Since the deployment of spacers on hangers, server hanger vibrations and clash of hanger ropes are never observed.

      • Sol–gel preparation, band structure, and photochemical activities of double perovskite <i>A</i> <sub>2</sub>NiWO<sub>6</sub> (<i>A</i> =Ca, Sr) nanorods

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P> <I>A</I> <SUB>2</SUB>NiWO<SUB>6</SUB> (<I>A</I> =Ca, Sr) double perovskite semiconductors were prepared via the sol–gel method. The crystal phases were confirmed via X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurements together with Rietveld refinements. The morphological and chemical properties of the samples were investigated by the scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and the specific surface area measurements. The optical absorptions and the band structures of the two double perovskites were discussed based on the on the experimental results and theoretical calculation. The d–d allowed transitions in Ni<SUP>2</SUP> <SUP>+</SUP>–O octahedra have great contributions to the narrow band-gap. The Ni<SUP>2+</SUP>-containing tungstate perovskites were potential photocatalysts, which are efficient for its photodegradation for methylene blue (MB) under the irradiation of visible light (λ<ce:italic/>> 420nm).       • Narrow band gap and visible light-driven photocatalysis of V-doped Bi<sub>6</sub>Mo<sub>2</sub>O<sub>15</sub> nanoparticles

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Pure and V<SUP>5+</SUP>-doped Bi<SUB>6</SUB>Mo<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>15</SUB> (3Bi<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>·2MoO<SUB>3</SUB>) photocatalysts were synthesized through electrospinning, followed by low-temperature heat treatment. The samples developed into nanoparticles with an average size of approximately 50nm. The crystalline phases were verified via X-ray powder diffraction measurements (XRD). The surface properties of the photocatalysts were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. The UV–vis spectra showed that V doping in Bi<SUB>6</SUB>Mo<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>15</SUB> shifted the optical absorption from the UV region to the visible-light wavelength region. The energy of the band gap of Bi<SUB>6</SUB>Mo<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>15</SUB> was reduced by V doping in the lattices. The photocatalytic activities of the pure and V-doped Bi<SUB>6</SUB>Mo<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>15</SUB> were tested through photodegradation of rhodamine B (RhB) dye solutions under visible light irradiation. Results showed that 20 mol% V-doped Bi<SUB>6</SUB>Mo<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>15</SUB> achieved efficient photocatalytic ability. RhB could be degraded by V-doped Bi<SUB>6</SUB>Mo<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>15</SUB> in 2h.       • P53 Arg72Pro Polymorphism and Bladder Cancer Risk - Meta-analysis Evidence for a Link in Asians but not Caucasians

        Objective: Individual studies of the associations between P53 codon 72 polymorphism (rs1042522) and bladder cancer susceptibility have shown inconclusive results. To derive a more precise estimation of the relationship, we performed this systemic review and meta-analysis based on 15 publications. Methods: We used odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the strength of the association. Results: We found that there was no association between P53 codon 72 polymorphism and bladder cancer risk in the comparisons of Pro/Pro vs Arg/Arg; Pro/Arg vs. Arg/Arg; Pro/Pro plus Pro/Arg vs. Arg/Arg; Arg/Arg vs. Pro/Arg plus Arg/Arg (OR=1.06 95%CI 0.81-1.39; OR=1.06 95%CI 0.83-1.36; OR=0.98 95%CI 0.78-1.23; OR=1.06 95%CI 0.84-1.32). However, a significantly increased risk of bladder cancer was found among Asians in the homozygote comparison (Pro/Pro vs. Arg/Arg, OR=1.36 95%CI 1.05-1.75, P=0.790 for heterogeneity) and the dominant model (Arg/Pro plus Pro/Pro vs. Arg/Arg, OR=1.26 95%CI 1.05-1.52, P=0.564 for heterogeneity). In contrast, no evidence of an association between bladder cancer risk and P53 genotype was observed among Caucasian population in any genetic model. When stratifying for the stage of bladder, no statistical association were found (Pro/Pro vs. Arg/Arg, OR=0.45 95%CI 0.17-1.21; Pro/Arg vs. Arg/Arg, OR=0.60 95%CI 0.28-1.27; Dominant model, OR=0.56 95%CI 0.26-1.20; Recessive model, OR=0.62 95%CI0.35-1.08) between P53 codon 72 polymorphism and bladder cancer in all comparisons. Conclusions: Despite the limitations, the results of the present meta-analysis suggest that, in the P53 codon 72, Pro/Pro type and dominant mode might increase the susceptibility to bladder cancer in Asians; and there are no association between genotype distribution and the stage of bladder cancer.

        Semi-analytical solution of horizontally composite curved I-beam with partial slip

        This paper presents a semi-analytical solution of simply supported horizontally composite curved I-beam by trigonometric series. The flexibility of the interlayer connectors between layers both in the tangential direction and in the radial direction is taken into account in the proposed formulation. The governing differential equations and the boundary conditions are established by applying the variational approach, which are solved by applying the Fourier series expansion method. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed formulation are validated by comparing its results with both experimental results reported in the literature and FEM results.

        Ni-NTA-COATED NANOWIRE MATERIALS FOR PROTEIN ENRICHMENT AND THE APPLICATION IN A MEDICAL DEVICE USED FOR BLOOD GLUCOSE DEGRADATION

        A general and reliable method has been developed to functionalize either the iron oxide or the silicon nanowires (NWs) with nickel–nitriloacetic acid (Ni–NTA) complex, which was manufactured to manipulate His-tagged proteins and enzymes. The Ni–NTA-functionalized sea-urchin-shaped α-Fe2O3 NWs exhibit the superior protein purification efficiency and excellent stability in the form of dry powder. Application of this new nanotechnology in biomedical research field has been explored. A glucose degradation bio-matrix was made via the Ni–NTA-modified silicon NW-chips, which were conjugated with an enzyme essential to glycolysis. The glucose level in a simulated blood solution was found to be reduced from 14.4 mM to 9 mM after incubating the hexokinase I-functionalized silicon NW-chips for 12 h. These results suggest a possible way to build up a medical device using enzymes functionalized NW-chips for the removal of excess blood glucose.

        Isolation and Characterization of a Gene Encoding Hexokinase from Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.)

        Hexokinase is the first enzyme in the hexose assimilation pathway; it acts as a sensor for plant sugar responses, and it is also important in determining the fruit sugar levels. The full-length cDNA of a hexokinase gene was isolated from loquat through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and rapid amplification of cDNA ends, which was designated as EjHXK1. EjHXK1 is 1,839 bp long and contains an entire open reading frame encoding 497 amino acids. The predicted protein of EjHXK1 shares 72%-81% similarity with other plant hexokinases. Phylogeny analysis indicated that EjHXK1 is closely related to maize and rice hexokinases. Transient expression of the 35S: EjHXK1-GFP fusion protein was observed on the cell membrane and cytoplasm. Real-time RT-PCR indicated that EjHXK1 is expressed in loquat leaves, stems, flowers, and fruits. EjHXK1 transcripts were higher during early fruit development, but decreases before maturation, which is consistent with hexokinase enzyme activity during fruit development and conducive for hexose accumulation in mature fruits. These results imply that EjHXK1 may play important roles in the regulation of sugar flux during fruit ripening.
