      • Involvement of MicroRNA-198 Overexpression in the Poor Prognosis of Esophageal Cancer

        Qi, Bo,Yao, Wen-Jian,Zhao, Bao-Sheng,Qin, Xiu-Guang,Wang, Yi,Wang, Wen-Ju,Wang, Tian-Yun,Liu, Shang-Guo,Li, Han-Chen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.9

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether the miR-198 expression level is related to clinicopathological factors and prognosis of esophageal cancer. Methods: MicroRNA was extracted from esophageal cancer patients who underwent surgery for assessment using the Taqman@ MicroRNA assay. The correlation between miR-198 expression and clinicopathological features was analyzed, and the significance of miR-198 as a prognostic factor and its relationship with survival was determined. Results: MicroRNA-198 (miR-198) expression was higher in patients with poor prognosis than those with good prognosis (P<0.05). Kaplan-Meier analysis results showed that the miR-198 expression level had a significant correlation with survival time (P=0.030) and that patients with a higher expression of miR-198 had a shorter survival time. Cox multi-factor model analysis showed that patient prognosis (P=0.014), tumor length (P=0.040) and expression (P=0.012), and survival time had a significant correlation; the corresponding risks were 7.268, 1.246, and 3.524, respectively. Conclusion: miR-198 overexpression is involved in the poor prognosis of esophageal cancer and can be used as a biomarker for selection of cases requiring especial attention.

      • Correlation of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasonographic Features with Microvessel Density in Papillary Thyroid Carcinomas

        Zhou, Qi,Jiang, Jue,Shang, Xu,Zhang, Hong-Li,Ma, Wen-Qi,Xu, Yong-Bo,Wang, Hua,Li, Miao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.17

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation of contrast-enhanced ultrasonographic (CEUS) features with microvessel density (MVD) in papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs). Materials and Methods: Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) was performed in 62 patients (17 men and 45 women) with PTC. Tomtec software was applied to analyze the time intensity curve of CEUS. Immunohistochemistry was performed to evaluate the level of MVD in papillary thyroid carcinoma. Then the relationship between quantitative feature and the level of MVD was analyzed using SPSS 16.0 software. Results: The mean peak intensity of PTC tissues was lower than that of peripheral thyroid parenchyma ($61.9{\pm}11.8%$ vs 100%, p<0.05). The MVDs of CD34 and CD31 antibodies staining were $38.0{\pm}6.1$ and $37.9{\pm}5.1$ respectively in 62 PTC samples. A significantly positive correlation was observed between peak intensity and MVD in PTC tissues ($P_{CD34}$<0.01, $r_{CD34}$=0.838, $P_{CD31}$<0.01, $r_{CD31}$=0.837). Conclusions: The peak intensity in CEUS could reflect the MVD in PTC tissues. Therefore, quantification of CEUS seems to be helpful for assessment of MVD in PTC tissues.

Enhancement of Virus-induced Gene Silencing in Tomato by Low Temperature and Low Humidity

        Da-Qi Fu,Ben-Zhong Zhu,Hong-Liang Zhu,Hong-Xing Zhang,Yuan-Hong Xie,Wei-Bo Jiang,Xiao-Dan Zhao,Yun-Bo Luo 한국분자세포생물학회 2006 Molecules and cells Vol.21 No.1

Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) is an attractive reverse-genetics tool for studying gene function in plants. We showed that silencing of a phytoene desaturase (PDS) gene is maintained throughout TRV-PDSinoculated tomato plants as well as in their flowers and fruit and is enhanced by low temperature (15°C) and low humidity (30%). RT-PCR analysis of the PDS gene revealed a dramatic reduction in the level of PDS mRNA in leaves, flowers and fruits. Silencing of PDS results in the accumulation of phytoene, the desaturase substrate. In addition, the content of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll in the leaves of PDS-silenced plants was reduced by more than 90%. We also silenced the LeEIN2 gene by infecting seedlings, and this suppressed fruit ripenning. We conclude that this VIGS approach should facilitate large-scale functional analysis of genes involved in the development and ripening of tomato.

      • A System Performance Estimation Model for Cassandra Database

        Bo-Qian Wang,Qi Yu,Xin Liu,Li Shen,Zhi-ying Wang 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.9 No.3

Cassandra database system is one of the universal databases. To achieve high performance, we should allocate memory space rationally according to actual demands. Otherwise, it will influence reading and writing performance. Actually, we always allocate memory space according to experience and repeated attempts which usually won’t give us the best answer. To solve this problem, firstly we analyze the reading and writing processing of the Cassandra database and find out the corresponding memory space which will influence system performance. Secondly, we build up a relationship model between system performance and memory allocation and name it as The Memory Model of Reading and Writing Performance. We have already applied the relationship model to real database servers to guide memory allocation and performance evaluation. Simulation results show that this memory model could well describe the quantization relationship of memory space and system performance.

Research on Friction Characteristics of AlCrN and TiAlSiN Coatings and Properties of Coated Tools

        Qi-Bin Yue,Hui-Bo He,Hua-Ying Li,Jun Zhang,Yuan-ming Li,Lu Ma 한국정밀공학회 2019 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.20 No.9

AlCrN and TiAlSiN coatings were deposited on the surface of 30CrMnSi steel and cemented carbide YT15 by multi-arc ion plating technique. A scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the surface morphologies of both coatings. The reciprocating sliding tests of AlCrN and TiAlSiN coating were performed to investigate the friction coefficients and the wear mechanisms of both coatings were analyzed as well. Dry machining tests on 30CrMnSi hardened steel were carried out with the AlCrN and TiAlSiN coated tools on a CA6140A lathe. The effects of cutting speed on cutting forces and cutting temperatures of AlCrN and TiAlSiN coated tools were obtained and analyzed. The microcosmic micrographs of wear areas of both coated tools were observed and investigated by scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrum. The results show that the hardness and bonding strength of AlCrN coating are higher than that of TiAlSiN coating, while the friction coefficient of AlCrN coating is lower than that of TiAlSiN coating. Both the cutting force and cutting temperature of AlCrN coated tool are lower than TiAlSiN coated tool. The time required for the bluntness of the AlCrN coated tool is approximately 33.3% longer than that of the TiAlSiN coated tool, and the main wear mechanisms of both tools are mainly crater wear, diffusion wear and oxidation wear.
