Financial development, financial sector policies and growth: evidence from India
Pradeepta Sethi 한양대학교 경제연구소 2017 JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC RESEARCH Vol.22 No.1
This paper examines the dynamic relationship between financial development and economic growth in India. Using annual data from 1980 to 2014, we find evidence of a long-run relationship between financial development and economic growth. Financial sector policies embraced by the Government of India have enlarged the financial system, however we could not find substantial effect of these policies on the long-run growth process. Our causality test results show that the economic growth process exerts a uni-directional causal effect on the development of the financial system in India supporting the demand-following hypothesis.

A thermodynamic steady-state model for a single-effect lithium bromide–water (LiBr-H2O)-based vapor absorption refrigeration system of 17.5 kW capacities has been presented using the first and second laws of thermodynamics. The mass, energy and exergy balance equations in each component of the vapor absorption cycle have been fitted into a computer program to carry out the calculation using the thermo-physical properties of the working fluid. The performance parameters such as coefficient of performance (COP), exergy coefficient of performance (ECOP), total exergy destruction (TED), etc. have been evaluated considering different temperatures in generator and evaporator, different LiBr concentrations in the weak and strong LiBr-H2O solution and different solution heat exchanger effectiveness. The model evaluated the optimum performance parameters like COP, ECOP, TED, etc. of the vapor absorption system by using Design Expert-12 software for an application like on-farm cooling or transit storage of fruits and vegetables.

To meet the constantly rising energy demand, renewable energy sources are increasingly being used in power networks, transforming the traditional power distribution system into a microgrid (MG) based system. Simultaneously, the presence of nonlinear loads in the MG system may cause unwanted power quality (PQ) issues, which must be thoroughly addressed. The use of a shunt active power fi lter (SAPF) to mitigate PQ problems in a standalone MG system is discussed in this paper. SAPF performance must meet a number of requirements, including constant dc-link capacitor voltage, continuous input current fl ow, and lower switching loss, all of which are diffi cult to achieve with a traditional voltage source inverter (VSI). A new inverter named split source inverter (SSI) has been recently developed and has all the above features. In SSI, both the dc and ac sides are regulated using modulation index with the same control mechanism as that of normal VSI. The application of SSI with SAPF is yet to be explored in detail. As a result, a performance comparison of two inverters (traditional VSI and SSI) based SAPF with modifi ed synchronous reference frame technique for generation of reference current, adaptive hysteresis current controller for generation of switching pulse, and proportional-integral controller or fuzzy logic controller for dc-link voltage regulation has been investigated in this paper. Under ideal/non-ideal source conditions, the proposed SAPF outperforms other counterparts in terms of dc-link voltage regulation and mitigation of harmonics generated by various nonlinear loads.

Two new expanded porphyrins, naphthorubyrin and naphthosapphyrin, were synthesized. The π-extended rubyrin was isolated and structurally characterized in its monoprotonated form. The sapphyrin congener undergoes pyrrole inversion as a function of the protonation state. These conformational effects are reflected in the spectroscopic features, including the excited singlet state lifetimes.

Graphic Abstract

Two new expanded porphyrins, naphthorubyrin and naphthosapphyrin, have been synthesized.

Proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) processes are among the most important phenomena that control a variety of chemical and biological transformations. Although extensively studied in a variety of natural systems and discrete metal complexes, PCET mechanisms are less well codified in the case of purely organic compounds. Here we report that a planar 棺,棺??phenylene-bridged hexaphyrin (1.0.1.0.1.0), a 24 ?-electron antiaromatic species termed rosarin, displays unique redox reactivity on protonation. Specifically, treatment with acid (for example, HI) yields a 26 ?-electron aromatic triprotonated monocationic species that is produced spontaneously via an intermediate??but stable??25 ?-electron non-aromatic triprotonated monoradical dication. This latter species is also produced on treatment of the original 24 ?-electron antiaromatic starting material with HCl or HBr. The stepwise nature of the proton-coupled reduction observed in the planar rosarin stands in marked contrast to that seen for non-annulated rosarins and other ostensibly antiaromatic expanded porphyrinoids.
