The Correlation of Routine Tear Function Tests and Conjunctival Impression Cytology in Dry Eye Syndrome

        Prachi Kumar,Rahul Bhargava,Manoj Kumar,Somesh Ranjan,Manjushri Kumar,Pratima Verma 대한안과학회 2014 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.28 No.2

Purpose: To establish the strength of the association between routine tear function tests and conjunctival impressioncytology (CIC) and to determine whether they simulate the morphological and cytological changesthat occur on the ocular surface in dry eye. What are the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive valuesof these tests when CIC is considered the gold standard? Methods: The tear film profile included tear film break up time (TBUT), Schirmer’s-1, Rose Bengal scores (RBS),and impression cytology. CIC samples were obtained from the inferior bulbar conjunctiva and stained withperiodic acid-Schiff and counter stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Results: The mean Schirmer’s value was 11.66 ± 5.90 in patients and 17.17 ± 2.97 in controls (p < 0.001). Themean TBUT in participants was 8.88 ± 3.54 and 13.53 ± 2.12 in controls (p < 0.001). Patients had a meangoblet cell density (GCD) of 490 ± 213, while the value for controls was 1,462 ± 661 (p < 0.001). Abnormal CICwas observed in 46.7% cases of dry eye and in 32.8% of controls. The correlation coefficient (L) for Schirmer’swas 0.2 and 0.24 for participants and controls, respectively, while TBUT values were 0.26 and 0.38, RBSwere 0.5 and 0.5, and GCD was 0.8 and 0.6 in cases and controls, respectively. Conclusions: GCD, RBS, and TBUT were better predictors of morphological and cytological changes in theconjunctiva than Schirmer’s in dry eye syndrome. The sensitivity of tear function tests in diagnosing dry eyewas TBUT > Schirmer’s > RBS, and the specificity was Schirmer’s > TBUT > RBS in decreasing order whenCIC was considered the gold standard.

      • THE MANTRA OF INDIAN TEXTILE HANDLOOM`S AND HANDICRAFT`S FOR THE NEW GENERATION OF COUTURIERS AND BRANDS

Prachi Mehrotra 한국디자인학회 2015 한국디자인학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2015 No.10

This research provides a status check on the dominance of handcrafted textiles in the modern fashion and textile industry. “Is hand crafting the embellishment technique for the modern fashion and textile industry?” This research unlocks further opportunities for incorporating hand made textiles by international designers and brands highlighting factors making handcrafted fabric’s successful and influencing selection. The technology and craft worlds are increasingly colliding, with new generation of couturiers realizing that the way to the next generation’s hearts is going to be through their gadgets. The communication on the digital platform, in which brands are increasingly interacting with consumers, the New World has it all over the Old. In contrast to selecting a product from a lot, consumers want to have the option to order online, allowing more customization of the product. The research evidently shows that culturally and innovatively created hand crafted textiles are in demand in a niche market. The global consumer is slowly becoming aware of and appreciating the fact that natural fabrics are not only practical, but they’re fashionable too. People are seeking out simple, classic pieces of handcrafted apparel and lifestyle products with natural finishes and simpler decorative elements. Recently, in response to consumers’ interest in environmentally responsible products, handlooms and handicrafts are a definite alternative.

Enhanced Inter-Symbol Interference Cancellation Scheme for Diffusion Based Molecular Communication using Maximum Likelihood Estimation

( Prachi Raut ),( Nisha Sarwade ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2016 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.10 No.10

Nano scale networks are futuristic networks deemed as enablers for the Internet of Nano Things, Body area nano networks, target tracking, anomaly/ abnormality detection at molecular level and neuronal therapy / drug delivery applications. Molecular communication is considered the most compatible communication technology for nano devices. However, connectivity in such networks is very low due to inter-symbol interference (ISI). Few research papers have addressed the issue of ISI mitigation in molecular communication. However, many of these methods are not adaptive to dynamic environmental conditions. This paper presents an enhancement over original Memory-1 ISI cancellation scheme using maximum likelihood estimation of a channel parameter (λ) to make it adaptable to variable channel conditions. Results of the Monte Carlo simulation show that, the connectivity (Pconn) improves by 28% for given simulation parameters and environmental conditions by using enhanced Memory-1 cancellation method. Moreover, this ISI mitigation method allows reduction in symbol time (Ts) up to 50 seconds i.e. an improvement of 75% is achieved.

Evaluation of neuroprotective effects of Canna indica L against aluminium chloride induced memory impairment in rats

        Prachi S. Ojha,Prakash R. Biradar,Siddarth Tubachi,Vishal S. Patil 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2023 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.23 No.2

Memory disorders are the progressive neurological disorder, mainly causing dementia, memory loss and cognitive dysfunctions. The current study is aimed to experimentally validate the crude extract of Canna indica aerial parts (CIA) and root (CIR) against aluminium chloride induced altered memory in rats. Initially, methanolic extract of CIA, hydroalcoholic extract of CIR, and their combination of CIA + CIR were screened for Invitro antioxidant activity via 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and nitric oxide (NO) assays, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory assay and were also screened for their memory enhancing activity by in-vivo models such as elevated plus maze (EPM), morris water maze (MWM), cooks pole climb (CPC), Actophotometer, novel object recognition (NOR), and T-maze. Aluminium chloride (AlCl3) (17 mg/kg/day p.o.) for 21 days, was used as an Alzheimer’s disease inducing agent and Donepezil (AChE inhibitor) as a standard treatment agent. The AChE, butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) level were significantly increased, and glutathione (GSH), total protein (TP), catalase (CAT), and Dopamine were decreased only in AlCl3 treated rats and treatment with CIA 200 mg/kg and CIA + CIR 200 mg/kg significantly reversed these mechanisms.Histopathology of cortex and hippocampus was examined at 40× magnification, indicating maintain of integrity and architecture of CA1 and CA3 neuronal cells compared to control and standard groups. The in vivo studies of interospective and exteroceptive behavior models (EPM), MWM, CPC, Actophotometer, NOR, T-maze revealed that AlCl3 administration enhanced transfer latency (TL), escape latency time (ELT) and decreases locomotion, discriminatory index, and percentage alternation respectively. However, treatment with CIA and CIA + CIR 200 mg/kg highly significantly reversed the pathological changes of disease, extracts of Canna indica of both root and aerial parts phyto constituents are rich in flavonoids, phlobatannins, anthocyanin pigments, saponins, alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids etc. Which will decipher the acetylcholinestrase inhibitory, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, will ameliorate the pathological state of Alzheimer disease.

Curcumin, Inflammation, and Neurological disorders: How are they linked?

        Garodia Prachi,Hegde Mangala,Kunnumakkara Ajaikumar B.,Aggarwal Bharat B. 한국한의학연구원 2023 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.12 No.3

Background : Despite the extensive research in recent years, the current treatment modalities for neurological disorders are suboptimal. Curcumin, a polyphenol majorly found in Curcuma genus, has been shown to mitigate the pathophysiology and clinical sequalae involved in neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. Methods : We searched PubMed database for relevant publications on curcumin and its uses in treating neurological diseases. We also reviewed relevant clinical trials which appeared on searching PubMed database using ‘Curcumin and clinical trials’. Results : This review details the pleiotropic immunomodulatory functions and neuroprotective properties of curcumin, its derivatives and formulations in various preclinical and clinical investigations. The effects of curcumin on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), brain tumors, epilepsy, Huntington's disorder (HD), ischemia, Parkinson's disease (PD), multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury (TBI) with a major focus on associated signalling pathways have been thoroughly discussed. Conclusion : This review demonstrates curcumin can suppress spinal neuroinflammation by modulating diverse astroglia mediated cascades, ensuring the treatment of devastating neurological disorders.

      • A TOPOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF LARGE-SCALE STRUCTURE, STUDIED USING THE CMASS SAMPLE OF SDSS-III

        Parihar, Prachi,Vogeley, Michael S.,Gott III, J. Richard,Choi, Yun-Young,Kim, Juhan,Kim, Sungsoo S.,Speare, Robert,Brownstein, Joel R.,Brinkmann, J. IOP Publishing 2014 The Astrophysical journal Vol.796 No.2

<P>We study the three-dimensional genus topology of large-scale structure using the northern region of the CMASS Data Release 10 (DR10) sample of the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey. We select galaxies with redshift 0.452 < z < 0.625 and with a stellar mass M-stellar > 10(11.56) M-circle dot. We study the topology at two smoothing lengths: R-G = 21 h(-1) Mpc and R-G = 34 h(-1) Mpc. The genus topology studied at the R-G = 21 h(-1) Mpc scale results in the highest genus amplitude observed to date. The CMASS sample yields a genus curve that is characteristic of one produced by Gaussian random phase initial conditions. The data thus support the standard model of inflation where random quantum fluctuations in the early universe produced Gaussian random phase initial conditions. Modest deviations in the observed genus from random phase are as expected from shot noise effects and the nonlinear evolution of structure. We suggest the use of a fitting formula motivated by perturbation theory to characterize the shift and asymmetries in the observed genus curve with a single parameter. We construct 54 mock SDSS CMASS surveys along the past light cone from the Horizon Run 3 (HR3) N-body simulations, where gravitationally bound dark matter subhalos are identified as the sites of galaxy formation. We study the genus topology of the HR3 mock surveys with the same geometry and sampling density as the observational sample and find the observed genus topology to be consistent with ACDM as simulated by the HR3 mock samples. We conclude that the topology of the large-scale structure in the SDSS CMASS sample is consistent with cosmological models having primordial Gaussian density fluctuations growing in accordance with general relativity to form galaxies in massive dark matter halos.</P>

INCLUSION RELATIONS AND RADIUS PROBLEMS FOR A SUBCLASS OF STARLIKE FUNCTIONS

        Gupta, Prachi,Nagpal, Sumit,Ravichandran, Vaithiyanathan Korean Mathematical Society 2021 대한수학회지 Vol.58 No.5

By considering the polynomial function 𝜙car(z) = 1 + z + z2/2, we define the class 𝓢*car consisting of normalized analytic functions f such that zf'/f is subordinate to 𝜙car in the unit disk. The inclusion relations and various radii constants associated with the class 𝓢*car and its connection with several well-known subclasses of starlike functions is established. As an application, the obtained results are applied to derive the properties of the partial sums and convolution.

Experimental and Numerical Studies on All-Steel Buckling Restrained Brace with Light-Weighted Restrainer

Mishra Prachi,Vyavahare Arvind Y. 한국강구조학회 2024 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.24 No.1

In this paper, authors propose a novel type of light weighted steel buckling restrained brace (LWSBRB) made with two hollow rectangular sections used as restrainers, thus making the all-steel buckling restrained braces additionally light-weighted fulfi lling the Euler’s buckling criteria as well. The proposed LWSBRB is cyclically tested and compared with conventional all-steel buckling restrained brace specimen for hysteretic behavior, failure pattern, energy dissipation capacity, cumulative plastic deformation, ductility, compression strength adjustment factor and equivalent viscous damping factor. The tested specimen is also numerically validated by non-linear fi nite element analysis. It was seen that LWBRB showed higher ductility with optimum energy dissipation. It was also observed that LWBRB induced quite stable hysteretic behavior with higher values of maximum compressive and tensile forces, and can be loaded beyond 2% axial strain to dissipate more energy.
