Reducing Dislocations of Antibiotic Hip Spacers via Hybrid Cement-screw Constrained Liner Fixation: A Case Series

        Richard A. Pizzo,Jay N. Patel,Anthony Viola,David M. Keller,Richard S. Yoon,Frank A. Liporace 대한고관절학회 2020 Hip and Pelvis Vol.32 No.4

Purpose: Infection following total hip arthroplasty is a challenging and devastating complication. In two-stage revision arthroplasty, antibiotic spacers, although efficacious, can be associated with an unacceptable rate of mechanical complications (e.g., fracture, dislocation). This series describes 15 patients with infected total hip prostheses treated with hybrid cement-screw fixation constrained liner antibiotic spacers to enhance stability and minimize mechanical complications. Materials and Methods: All patients with an infected hip prosthesis undergoing two-stage revision arthroplasty at a single academic medical center were identified and screened for inclusion. Clinical and radiographic data including patient demographics and outcome measures were collected and retrospectively analyzed. Results: Two patients died of unrelated causes at an average of 6-week postoperatively. Infections in the remaining thirteen patients (100%) were successfully eradicated; all underwent uncomplicated revision arthroplasty at a mean duration of 99.5 days after the placement of the antibiotic spacer. No dislocations, fractures, or other mechanical failures of any spacer were observed in this series. Conclusion: The hybrid cement-screw fixation technique for constrained liner antibiotic spacers is a reliable and effective treatment method for eradicating prosthetic joint infections without mechanical complications.

PID CONTROLLER MODELLING AND OPTIMIZATION IN CR SYSTEMS WITH STANDARD AND REDUCED ACCUMULATORS

        Alessandro Ferrari,Antonio Mittica,Pietro Pizzo,Zhiru Jin 한국자동차공학회 2018 International journal of automotive technology Vol.19 No.5

The proportional-integrative-derivative (PID) controller and the pressure control valve of a Common Rail system are modelled by taking into account electronic, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical aspects. A fully predictive model of the injection apparatus is realized and validated by means of comparison with experimental data. The effects of the PID parameters on the injection system dynamics are illustrated and discussed on the basis of model results, which refer to steadystate and transient working conditions. The influence of the accumulator size on the rail pressure time history is investigated when the rail volume is dramatically reduced (up to 2.5 cm3). In particular, the effect of the large rail pressure drop that occurs at the end of the main injection for Minirail layout solutions is examined when after injections are implemented. An objective is to try to determine possible suitable values of the PID controller parameters and of the pressure-sensor sampling-frequency for rails of reduced size.

Esports Sponsorship: An Empirical Examination of Esports Consumers’ Perceptions of Non-Endemic Sponsors

        Marcel Huettermann,Galen T. Trail,Anthony D. Pizzo,Valerio Stallone 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Journal of Global Sport Management Vol.8 No.2

Traditional sport organizations and their sponsors are beginning to embrace esports, but the effectiveness of non-endemic sponsorships in esports remains uncertain. Esports consumers are notoriously hostile to organizations they perceive as seeking to exploit them – including the growing ranks of non-endemics seeking to capitalize on the youth- and tech-centric esports industry. The purpose of this study is to evaluate esports consumers’ perceptions of non-endemic sponsorships. We adapt a well established sport sponsorship model to the context of esports to test key relationships’ salience to sponsors. We demonstrate that non-endemic sponsors can benefit from esports team sponsorship through enhanced attitudes, perceived goodwill, and product purchase intentions. Moreover, we find that there is only a small effect of esports brand attitude on attitude toward the sponsor, yet a larger effect on perceived goodwill and product purchase intentions. This suggests that firms with limited marketing budgets can benefit from increased goodwill and purchase intentions by sponsoring emerging esports teams who provide low-cost sponsorship opportunities.

Investigating the Origins of Two Extreme Solar Particle Events: Proton Source Profile and Associated Electromagnetic Emissions

        Kocharov, Leon,Pohjolainen, Silja,Mishev, Alexander,Reiner, Mike J.,Lee, Jeongwoo,Laitinen, Timo,Didkovsky, Leonid V.,Pizzo, Victor J.,Kim, Roksoon,Klassen, Andreas,Karlicky, Marian,Cho, Kyung-Suk,Gar American Astronomical Society 2017 The Astrophysical journal Vol.839 No.2

We analyze the high-energy particle emission from the Sun in two extreme solar particle events. in which protons are accelerated to relativistic energies and can cause a significant signal even in the ground-based particle detectors. Analysis of a relativistic proton event is based on modeling of the particle transport and interaction, from a near-Sun source through the solar wind and the Earth's magnetosphere and atmosphere to a detector on the ground. This allows us to deduce the time profile of the proton source at the Sun and compare it with observed electromagnetic emissions. The 1998 May 2 event is associated with a. flare and a coronal mass ejection (CME), which were well observed by the Nancay Radioheliograph, thus. the images of the. radio sources are available. For the 2003 November 2 event, the low corona images of the CME liftoff obtained at the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory. are available. Those complementary data sets are analyzed jointly with the broadband dynamic radio spectra, EUV images, and other data available for both events. We find a common scenario for both eruptions, including the flare's dual impulsive phase, the CME-launch-associated decimetric-continuum burst, and the late, low-frequency type III radio bursts at the time of the relativistic proton injection into the interplanetary medium. The analysis supports the idea that the two considered events start with emission of relativistic protons previously accelerated during the flare and CME launch, then trapped in large-scale magnetic loops and later released by the expanding CME.
