Changes in certain fish behaviors are known to be very sensitive indicators of sublethal exposure to environmental contaminants. Therefore, behavioral toxicity tests, if properly designed, can be very useful to assess the influence of hazardous chemicals on fish. However, quantitative analysis of xenobiotic -mediated changes in locomotor behavior in fishes are rare, due mainly to the methodological difficulties. In general, fish movement has been known to be hypertrophic or hypotrophic according to the chemicals. As a study of fish behavioral toxicities, we quatified the swimming movement of Orydas latipes using computer-automated video tracking system. Oryzias latipes was exposed to cadmium of 128 mg/L for 1 hour in a limited aquaria, then the total swimming distance, the average swimming velocity, the histogram of turning angles, and the turning frequency were analyzed. Fish treated with cadmium showed decreased swimming activities, decreased velocity, and decreased turning frequency, which means hypotrophic activity. From these results, the computer-automated video tracking system of this study seems to be a good tool for the evaluation of the potential ecotoxicological studies.

비소세포 폐암 환자의 이차 치료로서 Gemcitabine과 Vinorelbine 혼합 요법의 효과

Background : Both gemcitabine and vinorelbine are effective anticancer drugs with mild toxicity on non-small cell lung cancer, and monotherapy of these drugs are effective as a second-line chemotherapy. The aim of this trial was to assess the response and toxicity of a combination of gemcitabine and vinorelbine in patients of previously treated for non-small cell lung cancer. Materials and Methods : 24 patients, initial stage III A/B,IV and previously treated with platinium and taxane based regimens, were enrolled from June 2000 to March 2004. The regimens consisted of vinorelbine 25mg/㎡ followed by an infusion of gemcitabine 1000mg/㎡ on day 1 and day 8 every three weeks. This course was repeated more than twice. Results : Twenty-four patients were analyzed for the response, survival rate, and toxicities. The overall response was 17% with a complete remission rate of 4%. The median time-to progression (TTP) was 3.1 months (95%, CI l-10months), and the survival time was 8.2 months (95%, CI 1-23 months). The grade 3/4 toxicities encountered were neutropenia (12.5%), anemia (0%), thrombocytopenia (0%). Non-hematological 3/4 toxicities were not observed. Conclusion : A combination of gemcitabine and vinorelbine in patients previously treated for non-small cell lung cancer provides a relatively good response rate, and a low toxicity profile. However, further study will be needed to confirm its effectiveness. (Tuberc Respir Dis 2005; 58: 344-351) 배경 : Gemcitabine, paditaxel, docetaxel, vinorelbine, ir-rinotecan 새로운 항종양제의 출현으로 일차 치료의효과가 증대 되고 있고 재발시에도 좋은 신체 활동도를 보이고 있어서 이차 치료의 대상군도 늘어나는 효과를 보이고 있다. 치료의 필요성은 증대 되고 있지만 현재까지 표준 치료가 확립되지 않은 상황에서 Gem-citabine과Vinorelbine모두 독성이 강하지 않아서 혼합 요법이 가능한 장점이 있고 비소세포 폐암에 대한효과도 입증이 되어있어서 본 연구는 반응이 없거나 반응을 보인후에 재발된 진행된 비소세포 폐암에 ge-mdtabine과 vinorelbine 흔합 요법을 시행하여서 치료 반응률과 생존율 그리고 부작용을 평가하였다. 대상 및 방법 :2000년 6월부터 2004년 3월까지 충남대학교병원에내원하여 진행성 비소세포 폐암 IIIA/IIIB, IV로 진단을 받고 일차 항암화학요법치료를 받은 환자중에 초기 치료에 반응이 없거나, 치료에 반응이 있었으나 병이 진행된 환자로 추적 관찰 기간이 6개월 이상인 환자를 대상으로 생존율과 반응률 그리고 독성을 분석하였다. 결과 : 총 치료 반응률은 17%. 반응 유지기간의 중앙값은 3.1개월(1-10개월)이었고 생존기간의 중앙값은 8.2개월 (1-23개월) 그리고 1년 생존율은 35%였다. 항암화학요법에 의한 독성은 3도 이상의 중성구 감소가 12%, 오심과 구토가 12.5% 였다. 결론 : 일차 치료에 반응이 없거나 재발한 비소세포 폐암환자의 이차 치료로 gemcitabine과 vinorelbine 혼합요법은 효과적이라고 생각되며 향후 3상 연구를 통한다른 약제와의 비교 연구가 필요하다고 생각된다.

18世紀 江右地域 南冥學派의 分布와 動向

The culmination of the culture in the Josun Dynasty was reached in the academic achievement of Sik Jo (pen name, Nammyung : 1501 - 1572). His work marked a moral boundary in academia at that time. When we consider his great fame, it was natural many scholars and his followers make him their scholastic and behavioral model. These followers formed the Nammyung School and they took active parts in politics in and out of government service until King Sunjo and Gwanghaegoon. But the execution of Inhong Jung (pen name, Rae-Am : 1536-1623), leader of the Nammyung School and mentor of Gwanghaegoon, served as a momentum for decentralizing the school at the time of The Enthronement of King Injo subsequent to dethronement of King Gwanghasgoon in 1623. Hongdo Ha (pen name, Gyumjae) then acted on behalf of the school when the school had lost its cohesion. The year 1728 witnessed the Moosin Year Disturbance led by Heeryang Jung, which was one of the loud cries raised by confucian scholars to regain the positions they had held before the Enthronement of King Injo. Moreover the Noron Party. the group of followers of Siyul Soug and also the party in power, forced the Namin Party, another party in this area, to support it, while it prohibited the Namins from taking any state examinations by law after the Moosin Year Disturbance had been subdued. The Noron Party designed to attract the Namin Party to their side by disturbing its cooperation with the Soron Party, the followers of Jung Yoon, a disciple of Siyul Song's. With the Noron Party's intricately planned policies and efforts, most pepole in the Namin Party in this area became part of the Toegye School in the end. This paved the way for combining the right side and the left side of the Nakdong River as a natural result. There were few eminent scholars or government officials in high positions from the right side of the Nakdong River. In the meantime many scholars had come to stand by either the Noron Party or the Toegye Schoo. But the majority of Confucian scholars' respect for Nammyung had not faded away and his books were still being published. King Jungjo finally granted Nammyung a Royal Oration for the Sacrificial Rite in 1796 and conferred government positions on his descendants after over a century of persecution. The royal edict triggered the revival of the scholastic trend in this area and built a promising foundation for thriving academic achievement in the 19th ecntury.

The purpose of this article is to show how the apparently varied and unpredictable stress patterns of English can be account for based on a serious of principles and parameters of grid theory. End Stress can account for the contrasting English stress patterns of phrases and verbs/unsuffixed adjectives, on the one hand, and compounds and nouns/suffixed adjectives, on the other. The antepenultimate stress patterns of nouns of more than two syllables can be accounted for by building the bracketed left-headed feet iteratively from right to left. The grid dominating the heavy syllables is projected onto line 1. Verbs and unsuffixed adjectives with final branching rimes can be explained simply by making the final syllable extrametrical. I also discussed the arguments for the bracketed metrical grid theory based on Hayes's.

Sternal fractures are most common in drivers of motor vehicles whose anterior chest hits the steering wheel during sudden deceleration. Sternal fractures may result in mediastinal hematoma secondary to bone marrow oozing. The hematoma usually resolves itself without complications, so an anterior mediastinal hematoma causing tamponade is rarely reported. We describe a case of blunt chest trauma resulting in a sternal fracture with a resultant anterior mediastinal hematoma and mediastinal tamponade.

微生物에 의한 n-alkanes의 資化와 乳化

A long-chain n-alkane-using microorganism was isolated from a soil sample, and was identified to belong to genus Acinetobactor. This strain Ma-1 grew on n-alkanes ranging in carbon length from C_(13) to C_(44) as a sole carbon source. This strain could grow on the solid hydrocarbons without addition of any detergents. The growth and the hydrocarbon use were enhanced by the addition of a surface active agent, Plysurf A210G. A strain Ma-I culture isolated in our laboratory has been shown to produce an extracellular biopolymer with emulsifying properties when grown on a mixture of linear hydrocarbons. The substrates supporting good growth gave good polymer production. The polymers recovered from the substrates were found to be complex molecules or mixtures with a protein, a lipid, and a carbohydrate moiety.

보행운반의 특성과 생리학적 작업부하에 관한 연구

This study was performed to investigate the effects of gait parameters and task variables on loads carrying tasks. To investigate effects of gait parameters and task variables on physiological workloads of subjects during wrying tasks, heart rate and oxygen consumption were measured. For the study, 7 male university students were participated as subjects. All subjects were normal and healthy with no clinical history. The results showed that heart rate and oxygen consumption were significantly affected by carrying methods, weight of loads, walking speed and step length. Using backpack would be helpful to reduce physiological workloads based on the results that heart rate and oxygen consumption were lower than those of two hands carrying task.
