As one of the most important crop, rice is not only a staple food of half world’s population but a wonderful model plant, which has been leading the evolution and functional genomics study. The next-generation sequencing technology are expediting rice genomic study, by providing a simple but powerful way. In this study, we re-sequenced a core collection of 137 rice accessions from all over the world along with 158 Korean breeding varieties. Finally, 6.3G uniquely mapped reads were obtained, and about 10 million SNPs and ~1.2 million InDels were identified with average sequencing depth of 7.5X. These will help us to maximize our germplasm utilization and assists all the deep research in population dynamics and functional studies. Here, we’d like to show the approaches applied to resequencing data mining and on-going activities.

For the problem that the use effect of food processing information system is poor due to absence of knowledge acquisition measures and knowledge self-updating function, a knowledge acquisition approach based on rough set is put forward. First, the approach establishes a set of predicted samples for the relationship between food processing parameters and product quality; then uses the discretization of continuous attribute, attribute reduction and rule extraction algorithm of rough set to acquire automatically predicted knowledge from a large number of predicted sample sets, and then saves the predicted knowledge in the knowledge base of expert system; finally, realizes the extraction of knowledge of food processing process based on the inference engine, which greatly enhances the effectiveness and practicality of the acquired knowledge in online aided decision system of the food processing quality and safety.

It has been reported that ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme 9 (Ubc9), the unique enzyme2 in the sumoylation pathway, is up-regulated in many cancers. However, the expression and regulation of UBC9 in glioma remains unknown. In this study, we found that Ubc9 was up-regulated in glioma tissues and cell lines compared to a normal control. UBC9 knockdown by small interfering RNA (siRNA) affected cell proliferation and apoptosis in T98G cells. Further experiments revealed that microRNA (miR)-214 directly targeted the 3` untranslated region (UTR) of UBC9 and that there was an inverse relationship between the expression levels of miR-214 and UBC9 protein in glioma tissues and cells. MiR-214 overexpression suppressed the endogenous UBC9 protein and affected T98G cell proliferation. These findings suggest that miR-214 reduction facilitates UBC9 expression and is involved in the regulation of glioma cell proliferation.

Although the overall structure of the chloroplast genome is generally conserved, a number of sequence variations have been identified, which are valuable for plant population and evolutionary studies. Here, we constructed a chloroplast variation map of 30 landrace rice strains of Korean origin, using the Oryza rufipogon chloroplast genome (Genbank: NC_017835) as a reference. Differential distribution of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and indels across the rice chloroplast genome is suggestive of a region-specific variation. Population structure clustering revealed the existence of two clear subgroups (indica and japonica) and an admixture group (aus). Phylogenetic analysis of the 30 landrace rice strains and six rice chloroplast references suggested and supported independent evolution of O. sativa indica and japonica. Interestingly, two “aus” type accessions, which were thought to be indica type, shared a closer relationship with the japonica type. One hypothesis is that “Korean aus” was intentionally introduced and may have obtained japonica chloroplasts during cultivation. We also calculated the nucleotide diversity of 30 accessions and compared to six rice chloroplast references, which shown a higher diversity in the indica and aus groups than in the japonica group in lower level substitution diversity.

The Cu–3 wt%Ag–0.5 wt%Zr are rolled with the same reduction process at room (RT) and cryogenic (CT) temperature, respectively. The electron backscatter diffraction and transmission electron microscope are used to analyze and comparethe evolutions of material microstructure and texture. The results show that the stability of as-rolled CT sheets is differentfrom that of the RT samples, which can be verified by the lower temperature for the occurrence of recrystallization andAg-base particles precipitation. Besides the Brass, Copper and S textures which are exhibited in the two kinds of as-rolledsheets, there are also Q and P texture components in the as-rolled CT sheets. The constitutive equation basing on evolutionof dislocation mean free path (L) and dislocation cell size (dDC) with plastic strain indicates that the initial values of L, dDCand mobile dislocation density (ρm) are associated with annealing condition closely. Furthermore, the strain ranges of thestable and instable plastic deformation are related to the degree of recovery and recrystallization.

Objective: We aimed to do a meta-analysis of the existing literature to assess the accuracy of prostate cancer studies which use magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) as a diagnostic tool. Materials and Methods: Prospectively, independent, blind studies were selected from the Cochrane library, Pubmed, and other network databases. The criteria for inclusion and exclusion in this study referenced the criteria of diagnostic research published by the Cochrane center. The statistical analysis was adopted by using Meta-Test version 6.0. Using the homogeneity test, a statistical effect model was chosen to calculate different pooled weighted values of sensitivity, specificity, and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). The summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curves method was used to assess the results. Results: We chose two cut-off values (0.75 and 0.86) as the diagnostic criteria for discriminating between benign and malignant. In the first diagnostic criterion, the pooled weighted sensitivity, specificity, and corresponding 95% CI (expressed as area under curve [AUC]) were 0.82 (0.73, 0.89), 0.68 (0.58, 0.76), and 83.4% (74.97, 91.83). In the second criterion, the pooled weighted sensitivity, specificity, and corresponding 95% CI were 0.64 (0.55, 0.72), 0.86 (0.79, 0.91) and 82.7% (68.73, 96.68). Conclusion: As a new method in the diagnostic of prostate cancer, MRS has a better applied value compared to other common modalities. Ultimately, large scale RCT randomized controlled trial studies are necessary to assess its clinical value. The high-entropy alloy particles reinforced 6061Al composite was prepared by cold spray (CS) and then modified by frictionstir processing (FSP). The microstructure evolutions, corrosion, and wear behaviors of the composites were investigated. Results showed that numerous micro-pores and cracks were distributed in the Al matrix due to adiabatic shear instability andinsufficient deformation of the deposited particles for CSed samples. The average size of uniformly distributed HEA particleswas ~ 24 μm, and the geometric necessary dislocation (GND) density reached 17.1 × 1015m−2 due to large plastic deformationduring CS. Comparatively, the micro-pores and cracks were eliminated, and many fragmented HEA particles dispersed inthe Al matrix with an average size of ~ 4 μm for FSPed sample. Note that the GND density reduced to 9.8 × 1015m−2 due todynamic recrystallization during FSP. The formation rate of the oxide film was gradually greater than that of the dissolutionrate with the samples immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution from 12 to 36 h, and the main corrosion mechanism was particledissolution around micro-pores and pitting for CSed and FSPed samples, respectively. In the polarization process, the FSPedsamples exhibited low corrosion tendency and high corrosion rate due to the dense and uniform microstructure, low GNDdensity, and dispersed HEA particles. The FSPed samples had better wear resistance than the CSed samples at 25 °C and200 °C. The dominant wear mechanisms of CSed and FSPed samples were abrasion at 25 °C, while the wear mechanismsof these samples were adhesion accompanied by abrasion at 200 °C.

The application of suspension magnetization roasting technology in ferruginous rare earth bearing orehas gained significant attention. Bastnaesite, due to its pyrolysis characteristics, has been proposed asa reductant for iron minerals. In this study, the pyrolysis of bastnaesite was investigated through variousin-situ methods. The results showed that during pyrolysis, CeOF and CO2 were first generated, followedby the reaction of CO2 with Ce2O3 and Ce7O12 to produce CO. Pyrolysis occurred initially on the particlesurface and then progressed inward. Increasing the roasting temperature promoted the pyrolysis of bastnaesiteand CO generation. The addition of CO2 during the roasting process enhanced the formation of CO. The pyrolysis kinetic mechanisms under isothermal and non-isothermal conditions were phaseboundarycontrolled reaction mechanism (n = 4) and phase-boundary controlled reaction mechanism(n = 2–4), respectively. This detailed analysis of the pyrolysis behavior of bastnaesite facilitates the efficientand low-carbon development of ferruginous rare earth ores through suspension magnetizationroasting.
