Analysis of Different Anisotropic Properties of Ba(Fe0.926Co0.074)2As2 Single Crystal

Pattanaik A.,Purohit G.,Nayak P. 한국물리학회 2020 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.76 No.11

An attempt has been made theoretically to observe the different anisotropic properties of optimally doped iron-pnictide superconductors in the presence of an applied magnetic field. For this analysis, the modified phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory applicable to two-band superconducting systems has been used and found to be successful. In doing so, the anisotropic ratio with respect to the penetration depth and the Sommerfeld coefficient have been calculated for the system. The results obtained have been found to be very close to the experimental findings reported earlier. This analysis manifests that the proposed model can successfully be used to explain the anisotropy of multiband superconductors.

Effect of Different Degradable Protein and Starch Sources on the Blood Metabolites and Rumen Biochemical Profile of Early Weaned Crossbred Calves

Pattanaik, A.K.,Sastry, V.R.B.,Katiyar, R.C. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1999 Animal Bioscience Vol.12 No.5

Thirty new born crossbred (Bos taurus${\times}$Bos indicus) calves, divided randomly in a $3{\times}2$ factorial design, were fed calf starters containing one of three protein sources i.e., groundnut cake (GN), cottonseed meal (CS) and meat and bone meal (MB) along with either raw (M) or gelatinized maize (MG) for 90d. Milk was fed upto 56d of age. Green oats and respective calf starters were offered from 14d of age onwards ad lib. Clinical profile of serum suggested significantly (p<0.05) higher albumin and lower alanine aminotransferase activity due to CS feeding. Alklaine phosphatase activity varied significantly (p<0.05) among dietary treatments showing interaction between protein and starch sources. Inclusion of gelatinized maize resulted in significantly higher concentration of serum globulin (p<0.05) and alkaline phosphatase activity (p<0.01). reduced (p<0.05) ruminal pH was accompanied by a significant decrease (p<0.01) in $NH_3-N$ concentration in the strained rumen liquor (SRL) of MG fed calves. Ruminal amylase activity was lower (p<0.05) on MG diets. Alanine aminotransferase activity in the rumen exhibited a significant (p<0.01) interaction between protein and starch sources. While feeding of CS significantly (p<0.01) reduced alanine aminotransferase activity, inclusion of thermally processed maize reduced (p<0.01) both aspartate and alanine aminotransferase activities in the rumen. The overall blood picture was similar among treatments, whereas rumen metabolites especially enzyme activities, seems to be altered with source of degradable protein an starch.

Effect of Thermal Processing of Cereal Grain on the Performance of Crossbred Calves Fed Starters Containing Protein Sources of Varying Ruminal Degradability

Pattanaik, A.K.,Sastry, V.R.B.,Katiyar, R.C. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2000 Animal Bioscience Vol.13 No.9

In order to investigate the effect of incorporation of thermally processed cereal (maize) grain and differently degradable protein sources in the calf starter, twenty four newly born crossbred $(Bos\;taurus{\times}Bos\;indicus)$ calves were assigned at random to six diets in a $3{\times}2$ factorial design involving three protein sources viz. groundnut meal (GN), cottonseed meal (CS) and meat and bone meal (MB), each along with two differently processed grain, namely ground raw (R) and pressure cooked (P) maize. The corresponding calf starters with green oats (Avena sativa) were given free-choice from 14 d onwards till the end of the 90 d experimental feeding. A restricted milk diet was fed till the age of weaning at 60 d. Total DM intake was not affected by cereal or protein sources. However, daily intake of DM (59.23 vs 66.45 g) and CP (12.38 vs 14.10 g) per kg $W^{0.75}$ was reduced (p<0.05) due to cereal processing. Better (p<0.05) feed and protein efficiencies after weaning and during entire period in calves fed processed maize resulted in a trend of higher $(p{\leq}092)$ growth rate especially when GN was the source of protein. In comparison among protein sources, calves fed MB diets tended to grow faster $(p{\leq}098)$ concurrent with a higher CP intake before weaning. It is thus evident that thermal processing of maize in the calf starter seems to improve calf performance. Moreover, results indicated that feeding of protein and starch sources of matching ruminal degradability may prove beneficial for early growth of crossbred calves.

Influence of Iodine Supplementation on the Performance of Goats Fed Leucaena Leaf Meal Containing Diet

        Pattanaik, A.K.,Khan, S.A.,Kumar, A.,Bedi, S.P.S. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2000 Animal Bioscience Vol.13 No.9

In order to ascertain the influence of supplemental iodine on nutrient utilisation by goats fed a leucaena leucocephala leaf meal containing diet, 8 adult male goats (2 years; $22.3{\pm}1.73kg$) were randomly allocated into two groups, viz. control and experimental. Both the groups were fed a diet comprising of wheat bran, leucaena leaf meal and wheat straw ad lib. In addition, the experimental animals were given extra iodine at 0.04 mg/head/day (as KI soln.). A metabolism trial of 6 days duration conducted after 13 weeks of experimental feeding revealed that the daily DM intake $(g/W^{0.75})$ increased significantly due to iodine supplementation. Similar was the case with the intakes of DCP and ME. The digestibility of CP and EE showed significant improvement in the experimental group while that of DM, OM and total carbohydrates did not vary significantly between the two groups. The animals of control group were in negative nitrogen balance, which improved significantly and become positive in the experimental group. Moreover, the control animals lose weight apparently in contrast to the experimental animals, who maintained their weights. While iodine supplementation tended to enhance phosphorus retention that of calcium exhibited significant improvement. Conclusively, provision of extra iodine to Leucaena containing diet may prove beneficial in augmenting the nutrient utilization of this protein rich tropical forage.

Effect of Gossypol from Cottonseed Meal Diets on Some Clinico-biochemical Parameters and Humoral Immune Response of Crossbred Calves Fed Barley or Sorghum

        Pattanaik, A.K.,Sastry, V.R.B.,Singh, D.K.,Goswami, T.K.,Mohanty, D.N. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2003 Animal Bioscience Vol.16 No.9

Effects of feeding of 9.95 mg free gossypol/kg live weight through cottonseed meal (CSM) were studied in 20 intact male calves fed barley or sorghum as source of cereal during the experimental duration of 210 days. Serum concentration of total protein, albumin, globulin and their ratio did not vary because of protein (gossypol) or cereal sources. Serum level of cholesterol and urea were lower (p<0.05) in sorghum than barley fed calves. Feeding of gossypol through CSM enhanced (p<0.05) serum cholesterol. An interaction between protein and period was observed with respect to serum concentrations of urea, creatinine and alanine transferase. The levels of serum creatinine and alanine transferase increased (p<0.05) following 120 days of experimental feeding in calves fed CSM diets compared to the control animals fed groundnut meal diets. No effect of feeding gossypol was, however, evident on the serum enzymes viz. alanine and aspartate transferases and alkaline phosphatase. Moreover, the source of cereal and protein did not appear to influence the metabolic profile of the calves. Humoral immune response, measured through antibody titre against Brucella abortus S99 innoculation, revealed a delayed and depressed seroreactivity indicative of immunocompromisation because of the phytotoxin gossypol. In conclusion, the feeding of gossypol at the designated levels, although had no deleterious clinico-biochemical manifestations, affected the humoral immune response of the calves.

Gulf NRIs and Their Remittances to India - The Saga of Overlooked Great Expectations

Sitikantha Pattanaik 서울대학교 국제학연구소 2007 Journal of International and Area Studies Vol.14 No.1

As the leading labour exporting country to the Gulf, and also as the largest recipient of annual remittance inflows, India occupies an enviable position in the world, particularly because of the strong and unmatched beneficial macroeconomic effects of remittances. This paper views remittances from the Gulf to India not only as a case of “rich dividend to the country on zero investment,” but also as a costless outcome characterized by “rich harvest from a policy of benign neglect.” This paper outlines the macroeconomic justifications for according specialized policy attention to remittances on par with other sector specific policies, ranging from exports to foreign direct investment, and argues that the Gulf NRIs as a group deserve such a focused policy framework in India as a reward for their indelible contributions to the Indian economy. Gulf NRIs represent an important interest group, with genuine justifications supporting their great expectations that someday India’s current policy of “benign neglect” will be replaced by a more focused policy framework, which not only could encourage remittance flows through an attractive policy environment, but also may lead to better harnessing of the immense growth and development potential of remittances.

Gaping Fault Lines in the Global Financial Stability Architecture Lessons from the US Sub-Prime Crisis

Sitikantha Pattanaik 서울대학교 국제학연구소 2008 Journal of International and Area Studies Vol.15 No.2

The US sub-prime crisis has been a prime revelation of monumental failure by every responsible agent in the market, starting from macroeconomic policy makers, to regulators, to rating agencies, to international standard setting bodies to even the smartest of all investment bankers. This paper aims at identifying the key unpleasant policy challenges that have surfaced in the aftermath of the crisis, while also trying to decipher the sub-prime black box. In the process of documenting the wide ranging and thought provoking post-crisis suggestions from the scattered literature , the paper highlights the gaping fault lines in the existing global financial stability architecture.

Fiscal Stimulus and Potential Inflationary Risks: An Empirical Assessment of Fiscal Deficit and Inflation Relationship in India

( Sitikantha Pattanaik ),( Jeevan Kumar Khundrakpam ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 (구 세종대학교 국제경제연구소) 2010 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.25 No.4

The fiscal response in India to deal with the contagion from the global crisis during 2008-10 was driven by the need to arrest a major slowdown in economic growth. However, there could be medium-term risks to the future inflation path, in the absence of timely fiscal consolidation. As highlighted in the paper, fiscal deficit could be seen to influence the inflation process through either growth of base money or higher aggregate demand. Empirical estimates over the sample period 1953-2009 suggest that one percentage point increase in the level of the fiscal deficit could cause about a quarter of a percentage point increase in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The paper emphasises that the importance of fiscal space in the India specific context needs to be seen in terms of not only the usual output stabilisation role of fiscal policy but also the need for use of fiscal measures to contain inflationary pressures that often arise from temporary but large supply shocks.

How Closely the GCC Approximates an Optimum Currency Area?

( Sitikantha Pattanaik ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 (구 세종대학교 국제경제연구소) 2007 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.22 No.3

The six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries (namely Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and U.A.E.) have exhibited considerable cooperation in the past for deepening the process of economic integration, and there is an animated debate in the academic and policy circles as to whether the integration process can be intensified and carried forward so that eventually a common currency could replace the six national currencies by the year 2010**. The academic debate on optimum currency area suggests that individual countries at times may be better off just by joining hands to have a single currency, instead of each having its own currency. For several countries to constitute such an optimum currency area, however, they must satisfy certain preconditions; i.e., they must have similar economic structures with exposure to symmetric shocks, they must be open economies, well diversified and must also ensure high degree of factor mobility. In the context of this theoretical debate, this paper aims at assessing the degree to which the GCC may be meeting the requirements of an optimum currency area.
