Purpose: The metastatic tumor antigen (MTA) gene is a recently identified metastasis-associated gene which has implications in the signal transduction or regulation of gene expression. However, the expression of MTA in osteosarcoma and its potential relationship with metastasis have not been examined, forming the basis of this study.Materials and Methods: We compared the expression levels of the MTA1 protein between 32 cases of highgrade osteosarcomas and 21 cases of low-grade osteosarcomas by immunohistochemistry. In addition, the mRNA expression levels of MTA1, 2, 3 in these osteosarcoma cell lines and control fibroblasts were evaluated by real-time quantitative PCR.Results: MTA1 immunoreactivity was present in 81.25% of high-grade osteosarcoma specimens. Its expression was predominantly localized to the nucleus or cytoplasm of osteosarcoma cells. Thirteen (86.6%) of 15 patients who died of osteosarcomas displayed strong MTA1 expression. Both primary bone and pulmonary metastatic lesions exhibited MTA1 expression. All lowgrade osteosarcomas were negative for MTA1 except for focal weak reactivity in two cases. The tested high-grade osteosarcoma cell lines showed marked amplification of MTA1 and MTA2 mRNA compared to control cells. Conclusion: These results suggest that MTA might be involved in the progression of high-grade osteosarcoma, particularly in hematogenous metastasis of osteosarcoma.

Several lines of evidence are implicating an increased persistence of apoptotic cells in patients with asthma. This is largely due to a combination ofinhibition, or defects in the apoptotic process and/or impaired apoptotic cell removal mechanisms. Among apoptosis-inducing genes, an importantrole is played by p53. In the present study, we have investigated the possible relationship between p53 codon 72 polymorphism and asthma and theinteraction with ACP1, a genetic polymorphism involved in the susceptibility to allergic asthma. We studied 125 asthmatic children and 123 healthysubjects from the Caucasian population of Central Italy. p53 codon 72 and ACP1 polymorphisms were evaluated using a restriction fragment lengthpolymorphism-polymerase chain reaction (RFLP-PCR) method. There is a statistically significant association between p53 codon 72 polymorphismand allergic asthma: Arg/Arg genotype is more represented in asthmatic patients than in controls (P=0.018). This association, however, is presentin subjects with low ACP1 activity A/A and A/B only (P=0.023). The proportion of children with A/A and A/B genotype carrying Arg/Arg genotype issignificantly high in asthmatic children than in controls (OR=1.941, 95% C.I. 1.042-3.628). Our finding could have important clinical implications sincethe subjects with A/A and A/B genotypes of ACP1 carrying Arg/Arg genotype are more susceptible to allergic asthma than Pro/Pro genotype.

To develop chemical processes, according to Green Chemistry and Engineering principles, the use ofsolvents must be greatly reduced or eliminated. This paper focuses on the use of a new generation ofamino-functionalised ionic liquids, which enclose both solvent and catalytic properties for thebromination of cycloenones characterised by a conjugative endo-cyclic C¼C bond of various nature. These procedures represent an interesting approach to the environmental sustainability of brominationreactions, even if liquid Br2 is toxic and awkward. Given the large uses of brominated compounds inchemical industry, this procedure could be specially appreciated.
Images de la ville: construits de sens par les agents
Patrizia Laudati 고려대학교 응용문화연구소 2015 에피스테메 Vol.0 No.13
The aim of this contribution is to provide lines of thought about someconcepts involved in making sens by individual, when him represents thereal-life urbanspace. Cognitive and semantic process takes place throughsensory experience which the individual has in the space, from themulti-sensory perception of it. The individual is an agent since hisexperience, of and in the space, is connected to hisactions and practices. The image of the city which ensues from it, then proceeds at the sametime of the interpretation of the materiality of the city (spatial identity)and the way the agent gets in touch with the space and with others(individual and/or shared identity). Habitus, practices, capitalization of pastexperiences, sensory perception, expectations, spatio-temporal context, ... are so many elements influencing the sens making process whichunderlies thechoices of actions. Understanding the dynamic process of urban spaces semantization, allows to seize better the current manners to appropriate evolving spaces,in spatial and social and cultural way.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of Helicobacter (H.) spp. in swine affected by gastric ulceration. Stomachs from 400 regularly slaughtered swine were subjected to gross pathological examination to evaluate the presence of gastric ulcers. Sixty-five samples collected from ulcerated pars esophagea and 15 samples from non-ulcerated pyloric portions were submitted to histopathological and molecular analyses, to detect Helicobacter spp., H. suis and H. pylori by PCR. Feces and saliva swabs were also collected from 25 animals in order to detect in vivo the presence of Helicobacter spp.. Gastric ulcers were detected in 373 cases (93%). The presence of ulcers in association with inflammatory processes was further confirmed by histological examination. Forty-nine percent (32/65) of the ulcerated esophageal portions as well as 53% (8/15) of the non-ulcerated pyloric portions were positive for Helicobacter spp. by PCR. The Helicobacter spp. positive samples were also positive for H. suis, while H. pylori was not detected. These results were confirmed by restriction enzyme analysis. With regard to feces and saliva samples, 15/25 (60%) and 16/25 (64%) were positive for Helicobacter spp. PCR, respectively but all were negative in H. suis and H. pylori specific PCR.

The present study reports evidence of the pleiotropic effects caused by the insertion of the rat glucocorticoid receptor (GR) into the genome of Nicotiana langsdorffii. Transgenic N. langsdorffii-GR plants and the wild-type genotypes were analysed for their phenotypic and physiological characteristics. The integration of the GR gene affected flowering, growth habit, leaf morphology and stomatal pattern. Furthermore, GR plants showed an increased tolerance to heavy metal, drought and heat stress as evidenced by electrolyte leakage and by cell dedifferentiation and differentiation capability after recovery from stress treatments. We also monitored the establishment of the beneficial symbiosis between transgenic plants and the mycorrhizal fungus Funneliformis mosseae whose presymbiotic growth was significantly reduced by root exudates of N. langsdorffii-GR plants. The observed pleiotropic responses of transgenic plants may be a consequence of the hormonal imbalance, putatively due to the interaction of the GR receptor with the host genetic background. Our findings suggest that N. langsdorffii-GR plants can be used as a functional model system for the study of plant responses to a series of environmental stimuli.

Cochliomyia hominivorax is the dipteran that causes the worst and most serious types of myiasis in animals and humans in the Americas. They are parasitic affections caused by the massive infestation of larvae of this species on the tissues of living mammals. The routine treatment uses chemosynthetic products that have high toxicity and can cause several injuries to animal and human health, besides environmental contamination. The devel opment of more friendly alternatives to the treatment of this disease is an important knowledge gap nowadays. Citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus) is the most widely cultivated medicinal plant in tropical and subtropical regions. Essential oils have a recognised repellent and larvicidal activity against a wide variety of insects. This work aimed to evaluate the repellent, ovicidal and larvicidal efficacy of a topical commercial formulation composed of 15% (w/v) nanoemulsified Citronella essencial oil (Nano Citronela Plus®) in in vitro trials on specimens of C. hominivorax created under laboratory conditions. Nano Citronela Plus® is an oil-in-water nanoemulsion obtained by high-pressure homogenization method. The composition of tested nanoemulsion was Cymbopogon winterianus essential oil, vanillin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, polysorbate 80, sorbitan oleate, tocopheryl acetate, sodium benzoate and water. Nano Citronela Plus® demonstrated 100% lethality on eggs and first and second stage larvae of C. hominivorax. Mortality in the larvae of third stage was 69.33% and inhibited the oviposition of C. hominivorax females. Nano Citronela Plus® proved to be a possible herbal alternative for the control and treatment of myiasis caused by C. hominivorax. In vivo studies may test this hypothesis.
Vitamin D Deficiency and Risk of Metabolic Syndrome in Aging Men
D'Amelio Patrizia 대한남성과학회 2021 The World Journal of Men's Health Vol.39 No.2
The elderly population is rapidly increasing; hence, the disability due to age-related diseases has become an important socioeconomic burden. Amongst age-related diseases cardiovascular ones (CVD) have a huge impact on morbidity and mortality and are associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Several studies investigated the role of hypovitaminosis D in the pathogenesis of MetS and of CVD, this review unravels the relationship between aging/senescence, vitamin D, gender, and pathogenesis of MetS.
