        Effects of Ankle Self-Mobilization with Movement Intervention on Ankle Dorsiflexion Passive Range of Motion, Timed Up and Go Test, and Dynamic Gait Index in Patients with Chronic Stroke

        Objective: Patients with stroke generally diminished ankle range of motion, which decreases balance and walking ability. This study aimed to determine the effect of ankle self-mobilization with movement (s-MWM) on ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion, timed up and go test, and dynamic gait index in patients with chronic stroke. Design: Randomized controlled trial designMethods: Twenty-four post-stroke patients participated in this study. The participants were randomized into the control (n = 12) and self-MWM groups (n = 12). Both groups attended standard rehabilitation therapy for 30 minutes per session. In addition, self-MWM group was performed 3 times per week for 8 weeks. All participants have measured ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion, timed up and go test, and dynamic gait index in before and after the intervention. Results: After 8 weeks of training, self-MWM group showed greater improvement in ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion, timed up and go test, and dynamic gait index than in the control group (p<0.05). Further, self-MWM group had significantly improvement in all dependent variables compared to the pre-test (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our investigation demonstrates that self-MWM is beneficial for improving functional ability. Also, self-MWM was superior to control with respect to improving ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion, timed up and go test, and dynamic gait index.

        A Built-in Active Sensing System-Based Structural Health Monitoring Technique Using Statistical Pattern Recognition

        A piezoelectric sensor-based health monitoring technique using a two-step support vector machine (SVM) classifier is developed for railroad track damage identification. A built-in active sensing system composed of two PZT patches was investigated in conjunction with both impedance and guided wave propagation methods to detect two kinds of damage in a railroad track (hole-damage 0.5㎝ in diameter at the web section and transverse cut damage 7.5㎝ in length and 0.5㎝ in depth at the head section). Two damage-sensitive features were separately extracted from each method: a) feature I: root mean square deviations (RMSD) of impedance signatures, and b) feature Ⅱ: sum of square of wavelet coefficients for maximum energy mode of guided waves. By defining damage indices from these two damagesensitive features, a two-dimensional damage feature (2-D DF) space was made. In order to enhance the damage identification capability of the current active sensing system, a two-step SVM classifier was applied to the 2-D DF space. As a result, optimal separable hyper-planes (OSH) were successfully established by the two-step SVM classifier: Damage detection was accomplished by the first step-SVM, and damage classification was carried out by the second step-SVM. Finally, the applicability of the proposed two-step SVM classifier has been verified by thirty test patterns prepared in advance from the intact state and two damage states.

        메탄올 기반 탈질 공정의 고속화 및 탄소 섭취 특성

        In this study, two types of reactors were operated to examine the properties of methanol uptake under the high-rate denitrification process. In a sequencing batch reactor, the denitrifying activity was enriched up to 0.80 g-N/g-VSS-day for 72 days. Then, the enriched denitrifying sludge was transferred to a completely stirred tank reactor (CSTR). At the final phase on Day 46-50, the nitrogen removal efficiency was around 100% and the total nitrogen removal rate reached 0.097±0.003 kg-N/m<sup>3</sup>-day. During the continuous process, the sludge settling index (SVI30) was stabilized as 118.3 mL/g with the biomass concentration of 1,607 mg/L. The continuous denitrifying process was accelerated by using a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with a total nitrogen removal rate of 0.403±0.029 kg-N/m<sup>3</sup>-day with a high biomass concentration of 8,433 mg-VSS/L. Because the reactor was open to ambient air with the dissolved oxygen range of 0.2-0.5 mg-O<sub>2</sub>/L, an increased organic carbon requirement of 5.58±0.70 COD/NO<sub>3</sub> <sup>―</sup>-N was shown for the SBR in comparison to the value of 4.13±0.94 for the test of the same biomass in a completely anaerobic batch reactor. The molecular analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene showed that Methyloversatilis discipulorum and Hyphomicrobium zavarzinii were the responsible denitrifiers with the sole organic carbon source of methanol.

        현재 이차전지 시장은 전기차의 발전과 함께 급격히 성장중이다. 하지만, 상용화된 리튬 이온전지는, 화재상황에서 유기 전해질의 폭발 위험이 있다. 전고체 전지는 유기용액으로 이루어진 전해질을 고체 전해질로 대체하여 화재 상황에서도 전지의 폭발 위험 등이 없는 안전성이 확보된 전지로 앞으로 전기차 시장의 발전을 위해서는 전고체 전지의 개발이 필수적이다. Currently, the secondary battery market is multiplying along with the development of electric vehicles. However, commercial lithium-ion batteries risk an explosion of the organic electrolyte in a fire situation. The all-solid-state battery replaces the electrolyte made of an organic solution with a solid electrolyte so there is no risk of battery explosion even in a fire situation.

        장애인 활동지원서비스를 위한 AAC 부수어휘 조사

        배경 및 목적: 장애인의 일상생활 수행을 돕는 장애인활동지원서비스에 대한 수요가 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 복합적인 의사소통 요구를 지닌 중증장애인이 보완대체의사소통(AAC)을 이용하여 활동지원사에게 효과적으로 자신의 필요와 요구를 전달할 수 있도록 하기 위해 본 연구에서는 문헌에 기반하여 어휘에 대한 설문문항을 개발하고, 활동지원사들이 공통적으로 많이 필요로 하는 상황 별 부수어휘 목록을 명사를 중심으로 구축하고자 하였다. 방법: 11개의 문헌에서 보고하는 명사 어휘를 활동지원서비스의 영역별로 분류한 후, 체크리스트 형태의 설문지를 개발하여 105명의 활동지원사를 대상으로 설문조사를 하였다. 응답에 대해서 각 어휘별 어휘공통성 백분율을 산출한 후 공통적으로 많이 요구하는 어휘를 분석하였다. 결과: 50% 이상의 어휘공통성을 보인 63개의 명사가 활동지원서비스 7개 영역에서 확인된 244개의 부수어휘 목록에서 확보되었다. 244개의 어휘는 외출 시 동행 영역에서 112개, 청소 및 주변 정돈에서 29개, 개인위생관리에서 27개, 취사 영역에서 26개, 식사도움에서 20개, 그 밖의 제공서비스 영역에서 20개, 등하교 및 출퇴근 영역에서 10개의 어휘로 구성되어 있다. 논의 및 결론: 본 연구 결과는 활동지원서비스의 각 상황 별로 요구되는 주요 명사를 장애인의 AAC도구에 반영하여 자신의 요구 사항을 활동지원사에게 적극적으로 표현하는 데 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 또한 서비스를 이용하지 않는 장애인이라할지라도일상생활에서필요한어휘를제공하고있기때문에그활용도가높을것으로기대한다. Objectives: There are increasing demands for personal assistance services which help the disabled to carry out their daily life. To use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) approaches more effectively in daily communication, it is essential to include the ap-propriate core and fringe vocabulary in the AAC system. Considering the fact that there are few studies in Korea which have reported fringe vocabulary compared to core vocabulary, this study is aimed to develop a noun list that can be used to promote interactive commu-nication between the disabled and their assistants in each communication situation. Meth-ods: A literature review was conducted to elicit frequently used nouns in each communica-tion situation. Then, a survey was carried out to identify nouns with high word commonal-ity across 105 personal assistants. Results: Sixty-three nouns with more than 50% of word commonality across personal assistants were identified from the 244 fringe vocabulary; consisting of 112 nouns in the area of going out, 29 in cleaning, 27 in personal hygiene, 26 in cooking, 20 in meal supporting, 20 in other service areas, and 10 in commuting. Conclu-sion: The identified nouns are expected to help people with complex communication needs to express their needs and wants more clearly and effectively using those nouns embed-ded in their AAC systems. The list of nouns can be used not only for people who receive personal assistance services, but also for people who rely on AAC systems to express their daily needs.

        Is Sign-only Forecast of Exchange Rate Easier than Forecasting Both Sign and Size?

        Forecasting exchange rate movements is extremely difficult. While the usual forecast requires determining the size and sign of change, we investigate if the direction of change alone is easier to forecast. The accuracy rate of monthly forecasts based on an economic model is compared with random guessing that has the expected accuracy rate of 50%. Diebold-Marino test is used to see if the advantage of the economic model is statistically significant. We find that even a simple linear model based on UIP can predict the direction of change better than random guessing, even if the model’s performance is worse than random walk in terms of root mean squared error (RMSE) which is a widely used measure of the average size of the forecast errors, Binary response variable models such as logit and probit do not seem to improve the accuracy of directional forecasts. We also find that the forecast accuracy is quite sensitive to the in-sample size of rolling regressions and the treatment of the observations with no change. These findings indicate that sign-only forecasting may be a reliable tool for qualitative decision-making of a foreign exchange market dealer or an exporter interested in hedging exchange risk.

        Stepping into an era of extreme climate change and deteriorating ecosystems, education for pro-environmental behaviors has become more important than ever. Value-based environmental education allows one to develop an awareness of the consequences of one s actions and to regulate their behavior to inculcate solutions for environmental problems. Ethical, personal, intellectual, moral, and social values are the core categories of values emphasized throughout the value-based environmental education curriculum, which will allow one to observe the changes made by student behaviors, as they adapt their learnings for a better environment.
