<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><B>BACKGROUND</B></P><P>Carnosic acid (CA), a major bioactive component of rosemary (<I>Rosmarinus officinalis</I>) leaves, is known to possess antioxidant and anti‐adipogenic activities. In this study it was hypothesized that CA would ameliorate obesity‐induced glucose intolerence and hepatic fat accumulation, and possible mechanisms are suggested.</P><P><B>RESULTS</B></P><P>It was observed that a 0.02% (w/w) CA diet effectively decreased body weight, liver weight and blood triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol levels (<I>P</I> < 0.05) compared with the control diet. CA at 0.02% significantly improved glucose tolerance, and hepatic TG accumulation was reduced in a dose‐dependent manner. Hepatic lipogenic‐related gene (<I>L‐FABP</I>, <I>SCD1</I> and <I>FAS</I>) expression decreased whereas lipolysis‐related gene (<I>CPT1</I>) expression increased in animals fed the 0.02% CA diet (<I>P</I> < 0.05). Long‐chain fatty acid content and the ratio of C18:1/C18:0 fatty acids were decreased in adipose tissue of animals fed the 0.02% CA diet (<I>P</I> < 0.05). Serum inflammatory mediators were also decreased significantly in animals fed the 0.02% CA diet compared with those of the obese control group (<I>P</I> < 0.05).</P><P><B>CONCLUSION</B></P><P>These results suggest that CA is an effective anti‐obesity agent that regulates fatty acid metabolism in C57BL/6J‐<I>ob/ob</I> mice. © 2014 Society of Chemical Industry</P>
Chromosome remodeling and differentiation of tetraploid embryos during preimplantation development

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Although it is known that the tetraploid embryo contributes only to the placenta, the question of why tetraploid embryos differentiate into placenta remains unclear. To study the effect of electrofusion on the development of mouse tetraploid oocytes, mouse two‐cell embryos were fused and cultured in vitro in Chatot‐Ziomek‐Bavister medium. After electrofusion, two chromosome sets from the tetraploid blastomere were individually duplicated before nuclear fusion. At 8–10 hr after electrofusion, each chromosome set was condensing and the nuclear membrane was breaking down. Around 12–14 hr after electrofusion, the two chromosome sets had combined together and had reached the second mitotic metaphase, at this point with 8n sets of chromosomes. Interestingly, we discovered that expression of OCT4, an inner cell mass cells biomarker, is lost by the tetraploid expanded blastocysts, but that CDX2, a trophectoderm cells biomarker, is strongly expressed at this stage. Thermodynamics of exotic black holes, negative temperature, and Bekenstein-Hawking entropy

Recently, exotic black holes whose masses and angular momenta are interchanged have been found, and it is known that their entropies depend only on the inner horizon areas. But a basic problem of these entropies is that the second law of thermodynamics is not guaranteed, in contrast to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Here, I find that there is another entropy formula which recovers the usual Bekenstein-Hawking form, but the characteristic angular velocity and temperature are identified with those of the inner horizon, in order to satisfy the first law of black hole thermodynamics. The temperature has a negative value, due to an upper bound of mass as in spin systems, and the angular velocity has a lower bound. I show that one can obtain the same entropy formula from a conformal field theory computation, based on classical Virasoro algebras. I also describe several unanswered problems and some proposals for how these might be addressed.
Organizing Dissent against Authoritarianism: The South Korean Student Movement in the 1980s

This article deals with the main ideas and activities of antigovernment student activists in South Korea in the 1980s. The article argues that the South Korean student movement displayed great inventiveness with the methods of struggle, as student activists sought various ways to circumvent the legal constraints imposed on them by the repressive Chun Doo-hwan regime (1980-1987). The organizing and politicizing activities of the student activists represented dynamic and creative responses to the limitations and possibilities of the particular political contexts in South Korea during the 1980s.
운동영양학 : 장기간의 생식섭취가 운동선수의 체력 및 혈중지질에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of natural food uptake for 6 months on physical fitness and lipids in blood of athletic player. Research subjects were 20 college students athletes who play soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, wu-shu. They were divided into two groups: a natural food uptake group and a control group. The changes of physical fitness and lipids in blood were according to group and pre-post test compared and analyzed. Results found from such a comparative analysis study were as follow:1. It appeared that body weight and BMI in physique showed a little change, but it isn’t statistically a significant difference.2. It appeared that percent body fat, fat mass, lean body mass, body water mass, 10m shuttle run, standing broad jump, push-up, sit-up, stead upper torso bend to forward, left & right grasping power in physical fitness showed a little change, but it isn’t statistically a significant difference. And effect of natural food uptake on 50m dash, back strength in physical fitness were not showed, but it is statistically a significant difference(p<.05, p<.001). It appeared that 1200m run, leg strength in physical fitness showed many change, it is statistically a significant difference(p<.001, p<.05).3. It appeared that heart rate maximal isn’t statistically a significant difference. And VO₂max(L/min) & VO₂max(㎖/㎏/min) were statistically a significant difference(p<.001).4. It appeared that triglyceride of lipids in blood isn’t statistically a significant difference, And HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol of lipids in blood showed positive change, but it isn’t statistically a significant difference.As a result of this study, it could be show positive effect of natural food uptake for 6 months on physical fitness and lipid in blood of athletic player. Therefore, it could be expect that natural food uptake for a long time is helpful to elevation of exercise performance ability and improvement of health of athletic player.
