      • Single Image Dehazing Using Adaptive Restoration Factor in Dark Channel Prior

Er. Paramjeet Kaur,Er. Nishi 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Software Engineering and Vol.9 No.8

Images which are captured in outdoor scenes often degrade in quality due to atmospheric conditions induced by suspending particles like mist, haze, fog, etc. which scatter and absorb light before it reaches to the camera. The weather-degraded images directly affect the efficiency of computerized surveillance and monitoring system. In this paper, we propose an efficient haze removal technique which integrates dark channel prior with an ant colony optimization algorithm. Firstly, we use the dark channel prior method to compute dark channel in the hazy image and secondly, ant colony optimization algorithm is applied to make restoration factor for hazy images, adaptive between 0 to 1. The restoration factor in all the previous work is fixed value i.e. 0.1. Experimental-results show that proposed algorithm is effective, robust and is yielding high-contrast images.

Heterostructured Nanophotocatalysts for Degradation of Organophosphate Pesticides from Aqueous Streams

        Kaur, Paramjeet,Bansal, Priti,Sud, Dhiraj Korean Chemical Society 2013 대한화학회지 Vol.57 No.3

The present paper focuses on the synthesis, characterization and application of nanophotocatalyst for degradation of quinalphos and monocrotophos. Novel heterostructured ZnO/$TiO_2$ photocatalyst ($Z_9T$) was prepared and characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM and UV-vis diffuses reflectance spectroscopy. The average crystalline size of synthesized $Z_9T$ was found to be 21.48 nm. The pesticides were degraded in the presence of nanophotocatalysts i.e., $TiO_2$, ZnO, $TiO_2$/ZnO mixed in various proportions and heterostructured nanophotocatalyst synthesized by Sol-Gel method. The batch experiments were performed by adding photocatalyst to 100 ml of pesticide solution and suspension was subjected to irradiation under UV light. In case of mixed catalyst, the maximum degradation of monocrotophos and quinalphos has been observed when ZnO and $TiO_2$ were in the ratio of 7:3 and 8:2 respectively. The degradation efficiency with synthesized heterostructured nanophotocatalyst ($Z_9T$) was found to be comparable with $TiO_2$.

Photoanode modified with nanostructures for efficiency enhancement in DSSC: a review

        Yogesh Kumar,Tushar Chhalodia,Paramjeet Kaur Gumber Bedi,P. L. Meena 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.1

The research on dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is in the advanced stage today. The only concern observed so far has been regarding its stability and efficiency. Its power conversion efficiency can be increased by incorporating various methods and materials based on nanotechnology. Several attempts have been employed to develop advanced methods for eco-friendly, commercially viable, and sustainable DSSCs to minimize the energy crisis in the future. Photoanode is one of the essential components of DSSCs that can be modified using different nanostructures to enhance its efficiency. The TiO2 nanoparticlebased photoanode with gold and silver has proven to be potent materials for getting efficient DSSCs. The plasmonic and quantum confinement effects also play a vital role in efficiency enhancement. In this review, we discuss numerous attempts made by researchers in the last decade to modify the photoanode and their progress. We also look at different types of nanostructures, such as quantum dots, metal oxide doping, layered structures, nanocomposites, and thin film formation, that improve the efficiency of DSSCs. Several methods were reviewed to modify photoanodes to optimize electron transportation, light scattering, trapping power, surface area, and reduce charge recombination. The trend in the efficiency enhancement of DSSCs using TiO2, Au, ZnO, Ag, and graphene nanostructures-based photoanodes have been explored in great detail.

Micronutrients and superoxide dismutase in postmenopausal women with chronic periodontitis: a pilot interventional study

Daiya, Sunita,Sharma, Rajinder Kumar,Tewari, Shikha,Narula, Satish Chander,Sehgal, Paramjeet Kumar Korean Academy of Periodontology 2014 Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science Vol.44 No.4

Purpose: The study was aimed at investigating changes in periodontal parameters and superoxide dismutase activity triggered by root surface debridement with and without micronutrient supplementation in postmenopausal women. Methods: Forty-three postmenopausal chronic periodontitis patients were divided into two groups: group 1 (n=22) were provided periodontal treatment in the form of scaling and root planing (SRP) and group 2 (n=21) patients received SRP along with systemic administration of micronutrient antioxidants. Patients in both groups were subjected to root surface debridement. Group 2 patients also received adjunctive micronutrient antioxidant supplementation. Serum and salivary superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity along with periodontal parameters were recorded at baseline and 3 months after therapy. Results: Salivary and serum SOD values significantly (P<0.05) improved with periodontal treatment. Improvement in systemic enzymatic antioxidant status along with reduction in gingival inflammation and bleeding on probing (%) sites was significantly greater in group 2 as compared to group 1. Conclusions: Adjunctive micronutrient supplements reduce periodontal inflammation and improve the status of systemic enzymatic antioxidants in postmenopausal women.

Comparison of the Oswestry Disability Index and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings in Lumbar Canal Stenosis: An Observational Study

        Vijay G Goni,Aravind Hampannavar,Nirmal Raj Gopinathan,Paramjeet Singh,Pebam Sudesh,Rajesh Kumar Logithasan,Anurag Sharma,Shashidhar BK,Radheshyam Sament 대한척추외과학회 2014 Asian Spine Journal Vol.8 No.1

Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Purpose: The aim of the study was to determine relationship between the degrees of radiologically demonstrated anatomical lumbar canal stenosis using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and its correlation with the patient’s disability level, using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Overview of Literature: The relationship between the imaging studies and clinical symptoms has been uncertain in patients suffering from symptomatic lumbar canal stenosis. There is a limited number of studies which correlates the degree of stenosis with simple reproducible scoring methods. Methods: Fifty patients were selected from 350 patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The patients answered the nationallanguage translated form of ODI. The ratio of disability was interpreted, and the patients were grouped accordingly. They were subjected to MRI; and the anteroposterior diameters of the lumbar intervertebral disc spaces and the thecal sac cross sectional area were measured. Comparison was performed between the subdivisions of the degree of lumbar canal stenosis, based on the following: anteroposterior diameter (three groups: normal, relative stenosis and absolute stenosis); subdivisions of the degree of central canal stenosis, based on the thecal sac cross-sectional area, measured on axial views (three groups: normal, moderately stenotic and severely stenotic); and the ODI outcome, which was also presented in 20 percentiles. Results: No significant correlation was established between the radiologically depicted anatomical lumbar stenosis and the Oswestry Disability scores. Conclusions: Magnetic resonance imaging alone should not be considered in isolation when assessing and treating patients diagnosed with lumbar canal stenosis.
