Freezing of gait (FOG) is a common occurrence in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) that leads to significant limitations in mobility and increases risk of falls. Focused vibrotactile stimulation and cueing are two methods used to alleviate motor symptoms, including FOG, in patients with PD. While effective on their own, the effect of combining both focused vibrotactile stimulation and cueing has yet to be investigated. Two patients, both with a history of PD, suffered from frequent FOG episodes that failed to respond adequately to medication. A novel vibrotactile stimulation device that delivered rhythmic kinesthetic stimuli onto the sternum successfully reduced FOG episodes in both patients and drastically improved their mobility as measured by the Timed Up and Go test. We found that a combination of focused vibrotactile stimulation and cueing was effective in reducing FOG episodes in two patients with PD. Further well-designed prospective studies are needed to confirm our observations.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the potential benefit of a 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor antagonist, sarpogrelate-based triple antiplatelet therapy (TAPT) in comparison with dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in patients undergoing primary percutaneouscoronary intervention (PCI) for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Materials and Methods: 119 patients of STEMI were retrospectively assessed. All patients received aspirin and clopidogrel per standard of care. Among them, 53 patients received an additional loading dose of sarpogrelate and a maintenance dose for 6 months post-PCI (TAPT group), while others did not (DAPT group). Results: The rates of complete ST-segment resolution at 30 minutes post-PCI and post-procedural thrombolysis in myocardial infarctionflow were not significantly different between the two groups (52.8% vs. 48.5%, p=0.200; 92.5% vs. 89.4%, p=0.080). In addition,no significant differences were observed between the two groups with regard to 30-day and 12-month clinical outcomes (cardiac death, myocardial infarction, stent thrombosis, target vessel revascularization, and severe bleeding). Meanwhile, improvementin left ventricular (LV) systolic function was observed in the TAPT group [ΔLV ejection fraction (LVEF)=17.1±9.4%, p<0.001; Δglobal longitudinal strain (GLS)=-9.4±4.2% , p<0.001] at 6 months, whereas it was not in the DAPT group (ΔLVEF= 8.8± 6.5%, p=0.090; ΔGLS=-4.6±3.4%, p=0.106). In multivariate analyses, TAPT was an independent predictor for LV functional recovery (odds ratio, 2.61; 95% confidence interval, 1.16–5.87; p=0.003). Conclusion: Sarpogrelate-based TAPT improved LV systolic function at 6 months in STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI.
Becoming the Broadest-caster: The Regulatory Hurdles of Canada’s Radio Deal of the Decade
Pierre C. Bélanger(Pierre C. Bélanger ),Geoffrey Manchester(Geoffrey Manchester ) 한국캐나다학회 2013 Asia-Pacific Journal of Canadian Studies (APJCS) Vol.19 No.2
In July 2013 The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved an unprecedented merger between Bell Canada Enterprises (Bell Media) and Astral Media. Bell Media, a telecommunications giant, bought Astral’s radio, television and outdoor advertising properties for $3.8 Billion (CAD) in Canada’s largest ever purchase of legacy media by any company. To meet strict ownership regulations Bell Media would auction ten popular English radio stations while gaining several new stations in French speaking Canada from Astral, a key motivation behind the takeover strategy. The deal met plenty of resistance, first from incumbent broadcasters and eventually by the CRTC, who shut down Bell Media’s first application on the grounds that the transaction was not in the interest of Canadians. Bell Media significantly restructured their second proposal to include substantial benefits to Canadian radio and the broadcasting industry as a whole, pleasing both regulators. The merger confirms the coveted position that traditional content represents in a highly unstable and unpredictable digital media environment.

The COVID-19 preventive measurements restrict farm-workers from travel to their farms, social distancing and lockdown to prevent them from getting infected. Consequently, farming and irrigation activities are dramatically reduced due to shortage of farm-workers and reduction of crops production. To find solutions, various technologies have been adopted to remotely connect farmers with their farm-fields from their homes and perform the same work as they are in the farm. An Internet of Things (IoT) approach, modern sensor technologies, and smart irrigation equipment are coupled to allow the collection of the field data for automatic irrigation of the field. This paper presents the IoT system based on Fuzzy logic controller that assists farmers to receive and monitor necessary irrigation data from the farm field through their smart phones and PCs. The Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are deployed in the field to measure the water content in the soil and water used for plants by measuring the soil moisture dynamics throughout the entire duration of the crop growing sea- son in the Maize crop farm. The Fuzzy logic controller was used for data analytics and intelligent decision making as well as Fuzzy logic toolbox in MATLAB to simulate irrigation scheduling process. The system saves 50% of water and energy consumption for irrigation, 80% reduction of farm-workers and increase in 20% of crop production.
VALUE CHAIN OF LUXURY INDUSTRY - BRAND AS AN INTERDEPENDENT VALUE CREATION STEP
Pierre Xiao Lu,Wenwen Zhao,Yongjiang Shi 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2015 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2015 No.06
Increasing attention has been paid to marketing and consumer behavior of luxury industry but research into value creation network and operational mechanisms is very limited. This study focuses on two aspects of the luxury industry: luxury brand and value chain, to inform a comprehensive understanding of the value creation process for high value added brands. In luxury industry, the key elements that create and deliver value are brand, design and research, production, distribution, and retail. A clear brand identity is found as the first step of this value chain, which influences the choices of all other activities. Luxury goods companies will align all the activities in line with brand identity to deliver consistent tangible and intangible values to end users. Furthermore, a luxury value chain is a holistic network with strong coordination among its elements. A combined approach of case study and secondary data collection is pursued. A sample of 9 luxury companies within 6 selected industries is investigated. Data is qualitatively collected via semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and observations as a triangulation approach for the purpose of ensuring the reliability of the research data. Multiple interviews of the general manager, industrial manager, brand/communication manager, creative director, and store manager are conducted in each company to achieve a broader perspective and also make data triangulation procedures possible. This research contributes to the luxury brands management as well as value chain concept. It discusses the value creation network and operational mechanism from a less explored corporate perspective. It unveils a secretive existence of brand in value generation process and further establishes a model to amplify the relationship between each activity in the value chain. Also, it expands the research of value chain into luxury industry. It argues that a supply leading value chain can also command a premium rather than the customer-centric value chain discussed by most researchers recently. It also provides valuable insights for companies who want to have a high-end market position. It shows that the widely adopted luxury strategy invented mainly by French and Italian companies employs fundamentally different rules from those of fast-moving consumer goods in mass market. In short, a luxury strategy is different in nature, not in level.

In these authors’ previous paper, it was shown that grey-level stability is one of the main drawbacks of the time-sequential stereoscopic 3D display. In the present study, it was demonstrated that a videoluminance meter can be used to rapidly and easily check the quality of such display. A dedicated pattern was applied to simultaneously check the effect of the grey level on the other eye and the effect of the temporal synchronization. The results were compared with those provided by a temporal model of the display, which was obtained by measuring its temporal behavior. The visual impact of the grey-level instabilities was precisely quantified, and they were found to be a major source of imperfections for the aforementioned display.
Characterization of one Time-Sequential Stereoscopic 3D Display - Part I: Temporal Analysis -
Pierre, Boher,Thierry, Leroux,Collomb-Patton, Veronique The Korean Infomation Display Society 2010 Journal of information display Vol.11 No.2
A method of characterizing time-sequential stereoscopic 3D displays based on the measurement of the temporal behavior of the systems vs. the grey levels is proposed. An Nvidia 3D vision kit with a 3D-ready SAMSUNG 2233RZ LCD display is characterized in the paper. OPTISCOPE SA especially designed for the precise measurements of the luminance and temporal behavior of LCD displays was used. The transmittance and response time of the shutter glasses was first evaluated. Then the grey-to-grey response times of the display were measured. The 2D and 3D behaviors of the display were then compared. Finally, the temporal behavior of the complete system was modeled, and the grey-level variations on one view were deduced as a function of the synchronization and level of the other eye. The main sources of imperfection were identified and quantified, and a full computation of the system performances was done.
