Awareness and Perception of Computer Ethics by Undergraduates of a Nigerian University

Oyewole, Olawale Korea Institute of Science and Technology Informat 2017 Journal of Information Science Theory and Practice Vol.5 No.4

The invention of computers is one of the best things that have ever happened to mankind and undergraduate students can benefit immensely from the use of computers. However, observations have showed that in the present Nigerian society, there are a number of issues arising from unethical use of computers. Interactions with some undergraduate students revealed that a majority have fallen into the trap of unethical use of computers at one time or another. This seemingly alarming rate of unethical use of computers therefore calls for concern. A literature search has shown that awareness and perception of computer ethics have not been adequately researched within the Nigerian context. Thus, the main objective of this study was to examine the awareness and perception of computer ethics by undergraduate students in a Nigerian university. Descriptive survey research method was used and the study population was comprised of 12,894 undergraduate students of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The multistage random sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 292 and the questionnaire was used to collect data. Findings showed that the level of awareness of respondents on issues associated with computer ethics was high (mean=45.19). A majority of the respondents had a favorable perception of computer ethics and the most prominent factor identified that could hinder adherence to computer ethics as noted by most of the respondents was the poor economic situation of the country. Part of the recommendations was that government at all levels should provide responsible and responsive leadership.

Effects of Growing Population and Demand for Health Care Services in the Federal Capital City, Abuja

David Oyewole Olaleye 한국인구학회 1989 한국인구학 Vol.12 No.1

Ascertaining the actual growth rate of the population is an issue that has generated a lot of arguments amongst various scholars in the process of determining the actual census count. As such, this has had a pronounced effect in the determination of the actual growth rates for different urban populations in the country. But the effect centres much when it comes to accurately determining the major components or the factors contributing to the rapid growth of urban populations. The problem of rapid population growth centres much on its effects on the available basic social services and amenities provided for the people in these areas. Factors such as levels of medical knowledge and services, nutrition, quantity and quality of housing etc. to some extent influence the quality and duration of lives of the people. As such, their importance cannot be overemphasized when dealing with the issue of population growth. The study aims to examine the rate of population growth in the Federal Capital City, Abuja with respect to the available public provision of basic social services among other objectives. The findings from the data obtained from the Population Survey conducted in the city in 1985 show that the health care facilities available in the capital city are grossly inadequate to serve the entire inhabitants of the city. Moreso, the volume of in-migration into the city also compounds the health problems facing the city. The conclusion is that there is need for more resources to be allocated to the health sector to guarantee adequate and functional health care services in the city.

EXISTENCE RESULTS FOR NEW GENERALIZED MIXED EQUILIBRIUM AND FIXED POINT PROBLEMS IN BANACH SPACES

Olawale Kazeem Oyewole,Oluwatosin Temitope Mewomo 경남대학교 기초과학연구소 2020 Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Applications Vol.25 No.2

In this paper, existence and uniqueness results for the solution of a new classof equilibrium problem is established. Using the KKM technique, we establish the existenceand uniqueness of solutions of a new generalized mixed equilibrium problem (NGMEP) withtrifunctions. Further, we propose an iterative algorithm for finding a common element inthe solution set of the NGMEP and a fixed point set of a nonlinear mapping. We provedthe strong convergence of the algorithm to a common element in the solution set of a systemof NGMEP and a fixed point set of a countable family of totally quasi-φ-asymptoticallynonexpansive mapping in the framework of a real uniformly convex and uniformly smoothBanach space. Our result generalize many other results obtained recently in this direction.

      • Neurobehavioural effects of exposure of wistar rats to smoke from traditional Carica papaya (pawpaw) leaves

Aboyeji Lukuman Oyewole,Bamidele Victor Owoyele 셀메드 세포교정의약학회 2012 TANG Vol.2 No.4

This study was carried out to investigate the neurobehavioural effects of the smoking of Carica papaya leaves based on ethnopharmacological information. Twenty -four rats used for the study were grouped into four groups namely; Groups 1 (Control, unexposed to any smoke) and Groups 2 - 4 (exposed to smoke from varying amount of pawpaw leaf powder). Groups 2, 3, and 4 were exposed to smoke from 6.25 g (low dose), 12.50 g (medium dose), and 18.75 g (high dose) of dry pawpaw leaves respectively in a smoking chamber twice daily for 21 one days with each exposure lasting 3 min. The spontaneous motor activities and locomotory behaviour of the animals were assessed using an open field maze and hole board maze test. The results showed that the smoking of Carica papaya leaves led to a significant (p < 0.05) increase in locomotory activities from 33.36 ± 3.36 (control) to 66.50 ± 6.16 (high dose), number of head dips (from 8.50 ± 0.36, to 12.83 ± 0.87) and rearing behaviour (from 14.83 ± 0.74, to 27.0 ± 1.46). However, the freezing durations as animals were introduced into the maze and grooming behaviour were significantly (p < 0.05) reduced in the treated groups. In conclusion, the increased ambulations and exploratory behaviours imply that the anxiety level is low in the treated groups compared to the control group which thus confirms that dry Carica papaya leaf may possibly contain psychoactive substance(s) that become active when smoked.

Strong Convergence of a Bregman Projection Method for the Solution of Pseudomonotone Equilibrium Problems in Banach Spaces

Olawale Kazeem Oyewole,Lateef Olakunle Jolaoso,Kazeem Olalekan Aremu 경북대학교 자연과학대학 수학과 2024 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.64 No.1

In this paper, we introduce an inertial self-adaptive projection method using Bregman distance techniques for solving pseudomonotone equilibrium problems in reflexive Banach spaces. The algorithm requires only one projection onto the feasible set without any Lipschitz-like condition on the bifunction. Using this method, a strong convergence theorem is proved under some mild conditions. Furthermore, we include numerical experiments to illustrate the behaviour of the new algorithm with respect to the Bregman function and other algorithms in the literature

Chemical Compositions and Antioxidant Properties of Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato Leaves and the Consumer Acceptability in Vegetable Soup

Olufunmilayo Sade Omoba,Ganiyat Ololade Oyewole,Rebecca Olajumoke Oloniyo 한국식품영양과학회 2020 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.25 No.3

The purpose of this study is to determine the chemical compositions, anti-nutrient compositions, antioxidant properties, and phenolic profile of the leaves of orange fleshed sweet potato varieties [King J (UMUSPO1) and mother’s delight (UMUSPO2)] in Nigeria and their suitabilities in soup preparation. Freshly harvested leaves of the two varieties of orange fleshed sweet potato were sorted, cleaned, dried, and milled into powder. The dried leaves were assessed for their chemical compositions viz proximate and mineral compositions, the anti-nutrient compositions, antioxidant properties, and phenolic profile. The overall acceptability of the leafy vegetables in the preparation of a local soup (Edikang Ikong) was evaluated. The ash, fat, and protein contents of UMUSPO1 leaves were higher than UMUSPO2, similarly UMUSPO1 leaves had higher mineral contents. Phytate and saponin contents were higher in UMUSPO2, however, the calculated molar ratios were below critical levels. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl hydrate radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power assay were higher in UMUSPO1. Seven phenolic compounds were identified and quantified in both leaves with gallic acid being the most abundant. The taste of soup prepared with UMUSPO2 was rated higher, however, no significant difference was observed in the overall acceptability of the soups. The two leaves are good sources of nutritional antioxidants and can be suitable for the management of some disease conditions linked to oxidative stress.

The Syntactic Position of Negative Markers in Idoma and Tiv: A Deviation from Language Universal Validity

Issa Olarongbe Sanusi,Lydia Damilola Oyewole 세종대학교 언어연구소 2019 Journal of Universal Language Vol.20 No.1

Syntacticians and typologists have carried out a cross-linguistic study of the syntactic position of the negative marker with respect to the verb in a given sentence (Greenberg 1966 and Dryer 1988). The objective of this study is to carry out a comparative study of the negative marking strategies in both Idoma and Tiv languages, spoken in Benue State, Nigeria. Given the fact that the two languages belong to the same genetic family (Benue -Congo) and share the same basic word order (subject, S; object, O; verb ,V); the study is intended to find out the extent to which the negative marking strategies in the two languages conform to the assumption under language universals. The assumption is that there is an overall tendency for the negative marker to precede the main verb in SVO languages. That is, a location between the subject and the verb. Since none of the two writers speaks any of the two languages, data were collected through interview method. And the frame technique method was adopted in presenting structured grammatical sentences in English to native speakers of the two languages to translate to both Idoma and Tiv. The Principles and Parameters approach was employed for our analysis in this study. Our findings revealed that what obtains in both Idoma and Tiv negative constructions is contrary to the assumption under language universals. Instead of preceding the main verb, the negative markers occur at the sentence-final position, in each of the two languages. Notwithstanding the deviation from the language universal validity, we have discovered a high degree of similarities in the syntactic behaviour of negative markers in both Idoma and Tiv languages.

Prostaglandin E2 and oxidative defense system contributed to anti‑nociception action of aqueous Adansonia digitata bark extract in induced neuropathic pain in Wistar rats

        A. O. Bakare,A. L. Oyewole,B. V. Owoyele 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2019 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.19 No.3

Diverse etiology of neuropathic pain conditions demands new understanding of its pathogenesis and development of efective therapy. Treatment of induced neuropathic pain using aqueous Adansonia digitata bark extract has not been investigated. We probed the systemic administration efects of A. digitata bark extract on sciatic nerve ligated induced neuropathic pain. Treatments with extract caused increased pain threshold on hot plate, hot- and cold-immersion test. Notably, an apparent decreased in systemic prostaglandin E2 occurred concurrently with strengthened oxidative defense system. By contrast, extract-hexamethonium, -propranolol, -atropine or -prazosin cotreatments in induced-neuropathic rats suggested no involvement of muscarinic, nicotinic, beta or alpha-1 receptors in the analgesic action of the extract. Though, a weaken oxidative defense system was observed based on oxidative markers measured. These results indicate the crude extract ability to induce pain relief in neuropathic pain and this coincides with degree of decreased PGE2 and increased antioxidants as well as decreased lipid peroxidation product. This is the frst report demonstrating the usefulness of aqueous A. digitata bark extract in the management of neuropathic pain, an action that involves alteration of PGE2 and oxidative defense system.
