Cloud Radio Access Network: Virtualizing Wireless Access for Dense Heterogeneous Systems
Osvaldo Simeone,Andreas Maeder,Mugen Peng,Onur Sahin,Wei Yu 한국통신학회 2016 Journal of communications and networks Vol.18 No.2
Cloud radio access network (C-RAN) refers to the virtualizationof base station functionalities by means of cloud computing. This results in a novel cellular architecture in which low-costwireless access points, known as radio units or remote radio heads, are centrally managed by a reconfigurable centralized “cloud”, orcentral, unit. C-RAN allows operators to reduce the capital andoperating expenses needed to deploy and maintain dense heterogeneousnetworks. This critical advantage, along with spectral effi-ciency, statistical multiplexing and load balancing gains, make CRANwell positioned to be one of the key technologies in the developmentof 5G systems. In this paper, a succinct overview is presentedregarding the state of the art on the research on C-RAN withemphasis on fronthaul compression, baseband processing, mediumaccess control, resource allocation, system-level considerations andstandardization efforts.
Color Combinations in Capucci´s Works: The Experimental Aesthetics of Colors
Osvaldo Da Pos 한국복식학회 2004 International journal of costume and fashion Vol.4 No.1
If we are to analyze certain chromatic phenomena, we must first know what “color” is; we must identify its essential characteristics in an effort to achieve a more rational comprehension of visual phenomena in general. What is difficult for most observers to grasp is that seeing colors is no different than seeing shapes. Indeed, all aspects of the objects in the world surrounding us-shape, size, distance, movement, as well as color--are seen via our perceptual system.

The present study reports the preparation of an activated carbon produced from buriti shells (ACb) usingZnCl2 as activating agent and its ability to removemethylene blue dye (MB) from aqueous solutions. Theobtained ACb was characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, SEM and FT-IR. The resultsshow that ACb presents microporous features with BET surface area (SBET) of 843 m2 g-1 and functionalgroups common in carbonaceous materials. Adsorption studies were carried out and experimental datawere fitted to three isotherm models (Langmuir, Freundlich, and Redlich–Peterson) and four kineticmodels (pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, Elovich, and intraparticle diffusion). The isothermmodel which best fitted to experimental data was Redlich–Peterson. However, the g parameter of thismodel indicated that the adsorption of MB onto ACb occurs according to the mechanism proposed byLangmuir, which showed maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 274.62 mg g-1. Kinetic studiesdemonstrated that the Elovich model is suitable to describe the experimental data. Moreover, it wasfound that the intraparticle diffusion is the limiting step of adsorption process.
Encryption Scheme for Secured Communication of Web Based Control Systems
Osvaldo Gervasi 보안공학연구지원센터(JSE) 2010 보안공학연구논문지 Vol.7 No.6
A Control system is the combinations of components (electrical, mechanical, thermal, or hydraulic) that act together to maintain actual system performance close to a desired set of performance specifications. The trend in most systems is that they are connected through the Internet. Traditional Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) is connected only in a limited private network Since the internet Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) facility has brought a lot of advantages in terms of control, data viewing and generation. Along with these advantages, are security issues regarding web SCADA, operators are pushed to connect Control Systems through the internet. Because of this, many issues regarding security surfaced. In this paper, we discuss web SCADA and the issues regarding security. As a countermeasure, a web SCADA security solution using crossed-crypto-scheme is proposed to be used in the communication of SCADA components which extends through the internet.
Modeling of wind-induced fatigue of cold-formed steel sheet panels
Osvaldo Rosario-Galanes,Luis A. Godoy 국제구조공학회 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.49 No.2
Wind-induced failure around screwed connections has been documented in roof and wall cladding systems made with steel sheet cold-formed panels during high wind events. Previous research has found that low cycle fatigue caused by stress concentration and fluctuating wind loads is responsible for most such failures. A dynamic load protocol was employed in this work to represent fatigue under wind effects. A finite element model and fatigue criteria were implemented and compared with laboratory experiments in order to predict the fatigue failure associated with fluctuating wind loads. Results are used to develop an analytical model which can be employed for the fatigue analysis of steel cold-formed cladding systems. Existing three dimensional fatigue criteria are implemented and correlated with fatigue damage observed on steel claddings. Parametric studies are used to formulate suitable yet simple fatigue criteria. Fatigue failure is predicted in different configurations of loads, types of connections, and thicknesses of steel folded plate cladding. The analytical model, which correlated with experimental results reported in acompanion paper, was validated for the fatigue life prediction and failure mechanism of different connection types and thicknesses of cold-formed steel cladding.
