Review of small hydropower system
Orawan Jantasuto 국제문화기술진흥원 2015 International Journal of Advanced Culture Technolo Vol.3 No.1
Renewable energy resources play an important part in the world’s future. Renewable energy sources have the following components: biomass, geothermal, solar thermal, directs solar, wind, tidal and hydropower. Hydropower is still the most efficient way to generate electricity worldwide. Hydropower projects can contribute as a cheap energy source, as well to encourage the development of small industries across a wide range of new technology; furthermore hydropower systems use the energy in flowing and falling water to produce electricity or mechanical energy. Hydropower systems are classified as large, medium, small, mini and micro according to their installed power generation capacity, as do the following components: water turbines, control mechanisms and electrical transmissions. In this article a review of small hydropower systems has been done on the principles surrounding the fundamentals of hydraulic engineering, the fundamentals of hydrology, identification of sites and economic analysis.
Study of COD Removal Efficiency from Synthetic Wastewater by Photocatalytic Process
Orawan Rojviroon,Thammasak Rojviroon,Sanya Sirivithayapakorn 대한환경공학회 2014 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.19 No.3
In this research, we compared the COD removal efficiencies of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) thin films coated on the surfaces of borosilicate glass that prepared by three different numbers of coating layer; i) 3 layers ii) 4 layers and iii) 5 layers by sol-gel method. All of the prepared TiO₂ thin films consisted of pure anatase crystalline structure with grain sizes in the range 20-250 nm. The calculated optical band gaps of the TiO₂ thin films were 3.24. The total apparent surface area per total weight of TiO₂ thin films were 4.74, 3.86 and 2.79 m2 g-1 for 3, 4 and 5 layers coating, respectively. The kinetics of the photodegradation reactions of COD under UVA light source were described by the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) kinetic model. The specific rates of the photodegradation of TiO₂ thin films at 3 layers coating was 1.40×10-4 min-1 mW-1, while for the 4 layers coating and the 5 layers coating were 1.50×10-4 and 4.60×10-4 min-1 mW-1, respectively. The photocatalytic performance of COD degradation was higher with smaller grain size, higher surface area and narrow optical band gaps. Moreover, the numbers of coating layer on substrate also have great influence for kinetic of COD removal.
Inhibitory effects of sesamin on human osteoclastogenesis
Orawan Wanachewin,Peraphan Pothacharoen,Prachya Kongtawelert,Thanyaluck Phitak 대한약학회 2017 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.40 No.10
The promotional nature of sesamin on humanosteoblast differentiation has been proven. Here, the effectof sesamin on human osteoclasts was investigated in termsof differentiation and function in M-CSF and RANKLinduced human PBMCs. Sesamin treatment significantlydecreased the number of differentiated osteoclastsobserved by TRAP staining; however, sesamin inhibitiondid not result from the alteration of precursor cell proliferation. Sesamin did not decrease NFATc1 gene expression, which opposed the decreasing trend of CathK andTRAP expression. DC-STAMP, but not Atp6v0d2, alsosignificantly decreased in the presence of 14 lM sesamin. Expressions of CCR2b and CCR4 as chemokine receptorswere significantly down-regulated. Sesamin might mediatethe inhibition of human osteoclast differentiation, therecruitment of precursor cells and F-actin formation. Decrease in the area of the resorption pits and the collagenreleased from the bone slices under sesamin treatmentemphasized the inhibitory effects on both the differentiationand function of osteoclasts. Sesamin is a promisingphytochemical agent inhibiting osteoclast differentiationand function.

The potential utilization of two-stage sintering for the production of very dense and pure nickel diniobate (Ni4Nb2O9) ceramics with low firing temperature was demonstrated. The effects of the designed sintering conditions on the phase formation, densification and microstructure of the ceramics were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Archimedes method and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The minor phase of columbite NiNb2O6 tended to form together with the desired Ni4Nb2O9 phase, depending on the sintering conditions. Optimization of the sintering conditions may lead to a single-phase Ni4Nb2O9 ceramics with an orthorhombic structure. The ceramics doubly sintered at 950/1250 C for 4 h exhibited a maximum density of 92%. Microstructures with denser angular grain-packing were generally found in the sintered Ni4Nb2O9 ceramics. However, the grains were irregular in shape when the samples were sintered at 1050/1250 C. Two-stage sintering was also found to enhance the ferroelectric behavior of the Ni4Nb2O9 ceramic.
