With free trade areas (FTAs) under negotiation between Japan and the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) members and between the Republic of Korea and AFTA members, preferential market access will become more important in Asian regionalism. Protectionist pressures will likely increase through rules of origin, the natural outlet for these pressures. Based on the experience of the European Union and the United States with rules of origin, this paper argues that, should these FTAs follow in the footsteps of the EU and the US and adopt similar RoO, trading partners in the region would incur unnecessary costs. Using EU trade with GSP and ACP partners, the paper estimates how the utilization of preferences would likely change if AFTA were to veer away from its current uniform RoO requiring a 40% local content rate. Depending on the sample used, a 10 percentage point reduction in the local value content requirement is estimated to increase the utilization rate of preferences by between 2.5 and 8.2 percentage points.
WHY DO CONSUMERS BUY PREMIUM PRIVATE LABELS? – SOME QUALITATIVE INSIGHTS
Olivier Reimann,Udo Wagner 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7
46 2016 Global Marketing Conference at Hong Kong Proceedings: 46-47 (July 2016) http://dx.doi.org/10.15444/GMC2016.01.04.01 WHY DO CONSUMERS BUY PREMIUM PRIVATE LABELS? – SOME QUAL-ITATIVE INSIGHTS Olivier Reimann, University of Vienna, Austria1) Udo Wagner, University of Vienna, Austria2) ABSTRACT Private labels (PL) have developed remarkably well during the last two decades. In many Western European countries they achieved market shares of around 30 percent and more. A phenomenon that recently gained momentum in academia and practice are premium PL (PPL). That are PL positioned as “better and cheaper” or “higher in price and superior in quality” compared to the leading NB. However, with regard to the perceived quality gaps consumers attributed economy and standard PLs vis-à-vis national brands (NB) in the past, it appears contradictory that PPL could become “one of the hottest trends in retail-ing”. To the best of the authors’ knowledge no study published up to now has addressed the following research question: Why do consumers prefer PPL over NB or other PL tiers. The present work tries to provide some insights into this research gap. We conducted two empirical research projects which aim at shedding some light on po-tential drivers of PPL product choice. Both projects are field studies with two leading grocery retail chains in a Central European country as research objects. In this country, the grocery retail market is characterized by a relatively high PL market share (29 percent in 2013) and a high concentration of retailer power: in 2014 the top three retailers cov-ered 85 percent of the overall market. Project I conducted focus group interviews. Partici-pants discussed about economy PL, standard PL and PPL products. Participants debated whether / under which circumstances they would choose one of these PL tiers or a NB. Research project II consisted of semi-structured interviews conducted with consumers in stores. The study revealed major determinants of PPL product choice: (1) quality and price, (2) packaging, (3) origin, and uniqueness, and (4) co-branding. We also gained some insights into the role of psychographics and demographics, brand management and communica-tion as well as on store loyalty. Disadvantageous for retailers, the reasons for PPL prod-uct choice are mainly not PPL brand related. PPL shoppers search for intrinsic or extrin-sic cues and would buy any other brand that offers a similar product. However, the find-ings for co-branding PPL showed that suggestions to apply traditional branding strategies in order to increase (premium) PL success should gain more attention from academia and retailers.

Background: The aim of our retrospective study is to evaluate the management of isolated orbital floor fractures considering the clinical, functional and aesthetic results according to the surgical approach and the type of materials used. Methods: Retrospectively, clinical, radiological, surgical, and ophthalmological data from 79 patients were collected from January 2010 to December 2016. Furthermore, included patients were interrogated on functional and aesthetic satisfaction. Results: The main causes of trauma were physical aggression followed by accidents. The median time between trauma and surgery was 4 days. The most common surgical approaches were the subciliary and the transconjunctival ones. Alloplastic materials were used in 75 patients. In two patients, we used a combination of two grafts. Patients experienced minor immediate complications. On follow-ups, none of our patients suffered from ocular movement restrictions. Patients treated by subciliary approach had higher risk of retractile scaring compared to other surgical approaches. In our study, patients agreed to complete a questionnaire assessing functional and aesthetic outcomes with a high satisfaction score. No association between the implant material used and the results has been assessed. Conclusion: This study describes the results of orbital floor reconstructions. Despite a variety of materials used and surgical approaches performed, we believe that the transconjunctival approach is the most suitable option with a high satisfaction score.
Secondary oxidants in human serum exposed to singlet oxygen: the influence of hemolysis
Olivier, David,Douillard, Samuel,Lhommeau, Isabelle,Bigot, Edith,Patrice, Thierry Korean Society of Photoscience 2009 Photochemical & photobiological sciences Vol.8 No.10
Singlet oxygen ($^1O_2$) is produced by leucocytes during inflammatory reactions, various biochemical reactions and during photoreactions. It deactivates by reacting with a number of targets to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) and peroxides (that in turn produce ROS). To verify whether serum had the same capability to deactivate secondary oxidants after exposure to $^1O_2$, we provoked a photoreaction using rose bengal added to sera of 53 healthy donors and, after light delivery, reduced 2',7'-dichlorofluorescein (DCFH) was added at the end of irradiation and fluorescence of the oxidized derivative (DCF) was recorded. To avoid optical artifacts, we analyzed the influence of hemolysis. Deactivation capability of secondary oxidants after exposure to $^1O_2$ was stable over a long period of time, slightly different between men and women, but standard biochemistry parameters had little influence. Hemolysis, age and platelet number reduced deactivation of $^1O_2$-induced secondary oxidants. Addition of lysed cancer cells had no influence. Blood sampling in clot act tubes gave a better signal than in heparinized tubes. Red blood cells (RBCs) loaded with antioxidants strongly decreased deactivation of secondary oxidants. Assays are in progress to evaluate the clinical implications of these findings.
A Survey of Light-Load Efficiency Improvement Techniques for Low-Power DC-DC Converters
Olivier Trescases,Yue Wen 전력전자학회 2011 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2011 No.5
Maintaining high efficiency at light-load conditions is extremely important in most modern power management applications, where the predominantly digital loads spend the majority of their time in idle mode. The objective of this paper is to review circuit and system-level techniques used to leverage the existing process technologies in order to achieve high efficiency over a wide load range. The main focus is on low-power dcdc converters operating above several ㎒. Existing fixed and variable frequency schemes are contrasted in this work, namely pulse-frequency modulation with fixed and adaptive on-time, burst-mode control, adaptive gate swing, segmented power-stage, resonant gate drivers and capacitive charge recovery.
