        In order to know knowledge and practice of rural housewives toward vaccination for children in rural area, a study was carried out from august, 9 to August, 16 1979 in the area of Mi-Geum Myun, Yang-Ju Gun, Kyung-Gi Do. For the study, out of 560 households 151 housewives were selected as study group which had children aged under 3 years. And the Results were as follows; 1) Population of the study area was 2,840 and number of children under 3 years old was 225(7.9%). 2) Educational level of housewives studied, was 4.0% in no formal education, 43.7% in primary school, 37.1% in middle school, and 15.2% in high school and college. 3) Utility rate of Health subcenter of housewives for child care was 17.2%. 4) Main source of information on vaccination was Health Subcenter and clinics (51.6%), neighborhood and families (17.4%), and newspaper and radio (12.4%) etc. 5) Housewives awareness of vaccination kinds for children was 78.1% in poliomyelitis, 67.5% in measles, 62.3% in D.P.T and 39.1% in B.C.G. 6) It seemed that higher educational level of housewives, higher awareness of D.P.T, and B.C.G vaccination, but in poliomyelitis and measles the awareness is not related to the educational level. 7) Vaccination rates of children aged under 3 years were 41.8% in poliomyelitis, 38.2% in D.P.T, 17.3% in B.C.G, and 16.4% in measles. 8) It seemed that distance from the health Subcenter to living place co-related to the vaccination rate of D.P.T and B.C.G, but not to poliomyelities and measles.

        Algal bioassay 에 의한 조류생장 제한영양염류 결정

        Determination of Limiting Nutrient for Algal Growth by Algal Bioassay. Oh, Hee-Mock, Seog June Lee, Seong-Bin Kim, Mi- Kyung Park, Byung-Dae Yoon and Do-Han Kim (Environmental Microbiology Research Unit, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Taejon 305-333, Korea and Water Resources Research Institute, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Taejon 305-390, Korea) Water quaiity and algal growth potential (AGP) using Microcystis aeruginosa were investigated from April to September 1997 in Daechung Reservoir. Secchi disk transparency was 1.1 m in August. Chlorophyll-a concentrations were higher than 10㎍/l at all samples. Total phosphorus concentration was in a range of 0.020∼0.027mg/l which is at the approximate value of 0.03 mg/l, the general critical level of eutrophication. These results indicate that Daechung Reservoir is in an eutrophic state except some temporary times and restricted sites. Phosphorus uptake rate of M. aeruginosa was higher in the water from the epilimnion than in the hypolimnion and also higher under light condition than under dark condition. Therefore, phosphorus uptake rate appears to depend on cellular phosphorous content and light condition, a meaning of endergonic process. Phosphorus was the most frequently limiting nutrient: phosphorus was limiting algal gowth in April and May, nitrogen, phosphorus and trace elements were the limiting factors for algae in August, and trace elements in September. If a fast growing alga, M, aeruginosa, is used as a test organism for assaying AGP, in vivo fluorescence instead of dry weight can be measured for algal biomass and incubation period can be reduced from traditional 14 days to 7 days.

      • 배추좀나방의 유충 기생봉 프루텔고치벌의 기생특성

        배추좀나방의 유충 기생봉인 프루텔고치벌의 기생특성에 대해 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 프루텔고치벌은 배추좀나방 유충의 모든 영기에 기생하였으나, 주로 2령과 3령충을 선호하였다. 온도별 프루텔고치벌은 배추좀나방 유충에 대한 기생율은 18, 20, 25, 30℃에서 각각 41.9, 66.0, 86.0, 68.7%였다. 프루텔고치벌은 배추좀나방 유충의 밀도가 증가함에 따라 기생수는 증가하나 그 증가율은 감소하는 Holling의 제2형(포화형) 기능반응을 나타내었다. This experiment was conducted to investigate the parasitic characteristics of Cotesia plutellae Kurdjumov, a larval parasitoid of Plutella xylostella L. Although C. plutellae parasitized all 4 instars of P. xylostella, it parasitized mainly the second and third instars. Parasitisms of C. plutellae at different temperatures were 41.9, 66.0, 86.0, and 68.7% at 18, 20, 25, and 30℃, respectively. The parasitic response curve of C. plutellae to the host density indicated Holling' type Ⅱ(saturation type) functional response: the parasitism of host by C. plutellae increased with the host density but the parasitic rate decreased.

        Streptomyces exfoliatus가 생성되는 mutanase에 의한 인공치태 억제 작용

        Streptomyces exfoliatus 의 mutan 분해 능력에 영향을 미치는 인자에 대해 알아보고자 blue mutan을 이용한 실험을 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. Blue mutan이 들어있는 배지에서 Streptomyces exfoliatus에 의한 투명대를 봄으로써 mutanase의 분비를 확인할 수 있었다. Blue mutan이 들어있는 여러 종류의 배지 중에서 minimal essential agar 상에서 Streptomyces exfoliatus가 투명대를 형성하였다. Minimal essential broth의 pH가 7.0일때 pH가 5.5나 8.5일 때보다 blue mutan이 잘 분해되었으며, 배양 온도가 37。c때 32。나 42。때보다 잘 분해되었다. (P<0.05). Minimal essential broth에서의 blue mutan의 분해는 CaCl₂농도가 증가할 수록 (p<0.05), KCI 농도가 10mM일때 증가하였으나, MgCl₂ 농도는 0.1M에서 6.4mM의 범위에서 비슷하였다. Streptomyces exfoliatus배양 상청액을 0.5% yeast extract와 10% sucrose를 첨가한 2배의 BHI broth에 가한 경우 교정용 wire상에서의 Streptococcus mutans에 의한 인공치태 형성이 유의성있게 억제되었다 (p<0.05). 이상의 결과를 종합하면 Streptomyces exfoliatus에서 생성되는 배양 상청액내의 mutanase가 인공치태 형성에 억제 작용이 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. The main component of dental plaque is the mutan containing the a-1,3 bond. The following results were obtained by using a blue mutan to assess the factors affecting the mutandigesting activity of Streptomyces exfloiatus isolated from soil. A clear zone was produced by mutanase-producing Streptomyces exfoliatus on the minimal essential agar containing blue mutan. Streptomyces exfoliatus digested more blue mutan in the minimal essential broth at pH 7.0 than at pH5.5 or 8.5 Streptomyces digested more blue mutan at 37。c than at 32。c or 42。c (p<0.05). When the concentration of CaCl₂was increased in the minimal essential broth, the digestion of the blue mutan was increased (p<0.0.). The optimal concentration of KCI was 10mM to digest blue mutan, but a similar amount of blue mutan was digested at the range of 0.1mM to 6.4mM of MgCl₂. When the culture supernatant of Streptomyces exfoliatus was mixed with 2X brain heart infusion broth containing 0.5% yeast extract and 10% sucrose, less artificial plaque was formed by Streptococcus mutans on the orthodontic wire (p<0.05). These results indicated that the secretion of mutanase was identified in culture supernatant of mutan-digesting Streptomyces exfoliatus, suppressing the formation of artificial plaque by Streptococcus mutans.

        흉ㆍ쇄관절 후방탈구 : A Case Report

        Injuries to the sternoclavicular joint are not frequent, and the posterior dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint is much more rare. As the diagnosis is not easy with simple radiographic technique, special techniques are required. A case of the traumatic posterior dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint had been reported in our literature up to now. We also experienced a case of the retrosternal dislocation of the clavicle which had been caused by a ski injury and had a satisfactory clinical result with a closed reduction in a long-term follow-up. So we are reporting this case with a review of the literatures along with the injury mechanism.

        Using DMAB as reducing agent, the relation between some plating condition and the rate of deposition plated film for electroless Ni-Cu-B alloy was investigated. The result obtained from thisexperiment summarized follow; It was found that the optimum bath component consisted of 0.8ppm thiourea as stabilizing agent. Plating rates of nickel-catalytic surface and zincated-catalytic surface, both found to be very closely equal, and plating time of nickel-catalytic surface took longer plating time than that of zincated-catalytic surface. Composition of deposit found to be uniform after delectroless plating for two hours.

        We propose a signal processing method for white light interferometry which requires a series of analog signal processing circuitry to locate the central interference fringe with high speed. The method is applied to a fiber optic sensor consisted of an ELED, a sensing Fabry-Perot interferometer, and a Michelson interferometer for phase-matching and phase modulation. The temporal shift of sensor response is measured by the shift of the central fringe position. The test results show that the WLI sensor system is able to differentiate the change of 0.02℃ when it is implemented as a temperature sensor.
