      • Characteristics of Combustion and Emission on the Low Grade Heavy Fuel Oil of the Large-Size Vertical Flame

        Regarding marine environmental aspects, the regulation of marine emission was started in Jan. 1st, 2000. The maximum allowable NOx emission limits is expressed clearly in terms of the original module for Main Engine, Aux. Diesel Engine, Boiler and the others. But the proposal of SOx its own is now in the situation being delayed for a major uncertain problem. And the sulfur components contained much in low grade heavy fuel oils in general do not only have a big effect upon the cost, the low temperature corrosion and the engine tribology, but also related to a formation and emission when produced the nitrous oxides (N₂O) and the sulfuric mist in particulate matters (PM). In this work the internal flame during combustion of the low grade heavy fuel oil was investigated, at conditions for the actual spot boiler. With an industrial-scale flame, the work indicates on the whole that NOx is 270ppm, SO₂ is 1000~1400ppm, N₂O is about 8ppm at downstream flame. Besides, DS and SOF formation is relatively remarkable at upstream flame, but SOF decomposition becomes as goes downstream - DS plus SOF equals PM is about 2.0~2.5g/m<SUB>N</SUB>³, and sulfuric acid conversion amount is about 60~80㎎/m<SUB>N</SUB>³.
