The effects of synbiotics-glyconutrients on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, gas emission, meat quality, and fatty acid profile of finishing pigs

        Olivier Munezero,조성보,In Ho Kim 한국축산학회 2024 한국축산학회지 Vol.66 No.2

Glyconutrients help in the body’s cell communication. Glyconutrients and synbiotics are promising options for improving immune function. Therefore, we hypothesized that combining synbiotics and glyconutrients will enhance pig nutrient utilization. 150 pigs (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc), initially weighing 58.85 ± 3.30 kg of live body weight (BW) were utilized to determine the effects of synbiotics-glyconutrients (SGN) on the pigs’ performance, feed efficiency, gas emission, pork traits, and composition of fatty acids. The pigs were matched by BW and sex and chosen at random to 1 of 3 diet treatments: control = Basal diet; TRT1 = Basal diet + SGN 0.15%; TRT2 = Basal diet + SGN 0.30%%. The trials were conducted in two phases (weeks 1–5 and weeks 5–10). The average daily gain was increased in pigs fed a basal diet with SGN (p = 0.036) in weeks 5–10. However, the apparent total tract digestibility of dry matter, nitrogen, and gross energy did not differ among the treatments (p > 0.05). Dietary treatments had no effect on NH3, H2S, methyl mercaptans, acetic acids, and CO2 emissions (p > 0.05). Improvement in drip loss on day 7 (p = 0.053) and tendency in the cooking loss were observed (p = 0.070) in a group fed basal diets and SGN at 0.30% inclusion level. The group supplemented with 0.30% of SGN had higher levels of palmitoleic acid (C16:1), margaric acid (C17:0), omega-3 fatty acid, omega-6 fatty acid, and ω-6: ω-3 ratio (p = 0.034, 0.020, 0.025, 0.007, and 0.003, respectively) in the fat of finishing pigs. Furthermore, group supplemented with 0.30% of SGN improved margaric acid (C17:0), linoleic acid (C18:2n6c), arachidic acid (C20:0), omega 6 fatty acid, omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, unsaturated fatty acid, and monounsaturated fatty acid (p = 0.037, 0.05, 0.0142, 0.036, 0.033, 0.020, and 0.045, respectively) in the lean tissues of finishing pigs compared to pigs fed with the control diets. In conclusion, the combination of probiotics, prebiotics, and glyconutrients led to higher average daily gain, improved the quality of pork, and more favorable fatty acid composition. Therefore, these results contributed to a better understanding of the potential of SGN combinations as a feed additive for pigs.

Location Choices of Multinational Firms: The Case of Mergers and Acquisitions

( Olivier Bertrand ),( Jean Louis Mucchielli ),( Habib Zitouna ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 (구 세종대학교 국제경제연구소) 2007 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.22 No.1

This article examines the location choices of cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) between OECD members` firms in the 1990`s. In addition to traditional determinants of FDI, we estimate the impact of specific factors affecting the M&A location pattern. Two distinct econometric methods are implemented: the conditional logit and the count model. We find that the supply of target firms constrains the location of M&A. However, it is not the only determinant of location: the market size, the labor cost, the market access and the financial openness play a positive and significant role in the M&A location. A bandwagon effect is also observed. In the opposite, the corporate tax rate and the productivity decrease the probability to attract M&A. Cultural and geographic distances as well as differences in legal rules exert a negative significant impact on M&A strategies too. Only the ownership structure has contrasted results.

Efficient Implementation of the MQTT Protocol for Embedded Systems

( Olivier Deschambault ),( Abdelouahed Gherbi ),( Christian Legare ) 한국정보처리학회 2017 Journal of information processing systems Vol.13 No.1

The need for embedded devices to be able to exchange information with each other and with data centers is essential for the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT). Several existing communication protocols are designed for small devices including the message-queue telemetry transport (MQTT) protocol or the constrained application protocol (CoAP). However, most of the existing implementations are convenient for computers or smart phones but do not consider the strict constraints and limitations with regard resource usage, portability and configuration. In this paper, we report on an industrial research and development project which focuses on the design, implementation, testing and deployment of a MQTT module. The goal of this project is to develop this module for platforms having minimal RAM, flash code memory and processing power. This software module should be fully compliant with the MQTT protocol specification, portable, and inter-operable with other software stacks. In this paper, we present our approach based on abstraction layers to the design of the MQTT module and we discuss the compliance of the implementation with the requirements set including the MISRA static analysis requirements.

Endogenously Asymmetric Demand Shocks in a Monetary Union

( Olivier Loisel ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 (구 세종대학교 국제경제연구소) 2005 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.20 No.4

This paper presents a two-country two-industry monetary model, with intermediate inputs and transport costs, which builds a bridge between the New Open Economy Macroeconomics and the New Economic Geography literatures. Endogenously asymmetric shocks arise in this model when the exchange rate regime in force fosters the concentration of each industry in one country, thus turning industry-specific shocks into country-specific shocks. Because of the conjunction of substitution and/or income effects, endogenously asymmetric demand shocks are found more likely to arise in a monetary union than under a flexible exchange rate regime.

Uncertainty and sensitivity analysis in reactivity-initiated accident fuel modeling: synthesis of organisation for economic co-operation and development (OECD)/nuclear energy agency (NEA) benchmark on reactivity-initiated accident codes phase-II

        Olivier Marchand,Jinzhao Zhang,Marco Cherubini 한국원자력학회 2018 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.50 No.2

In the framework of OECD/NEA Working Group on Fuel Safety, a RIA fuel-rod-code Benchmark Phase Iwas organized in 2010e2013. It consisted of four experiments on highly irradiated fuel rodlets testedunder different experimental conditions. This benchmark revealed the need to better understand thebasic models incorporated in each code for realistic simulation of the complicated integral RIA tests withhigh burnup fuel rods. A second phase of the benchmark (Phase II) was thus launched early in 2014,which has been organized in two complementary activities: (1) comparison of the results of differentsimulations on simplified cases in order to provide additional bases for understanding the differences inmodelling of the concerned phenomena; (2) assessment of the uncertainty of the results. The presentpaper provides a summary and conclusions of the second activity of the Benchmark Phase II, which isbased on the input uncertainty propagation methodology. The main conclusion is that uncertaintiescannot fully explain the difference between the code predictions. Finally, based on the RIA benchmarkPhase-I and Phase-II conclusions, some recommendations are made.

      • WHY DO CONSUMERS BUY PREMIUM PRIVATE LABELS? – SOME QUALITATIVE INSIGHTS

Olivier Reimann,Udo Wagner 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

46 2016 Global Marketing Conference at Hong Kong Proceedings: 46-47 (July 2016) http://dx.doi.org/10.15444/GMC2016.01.04.01 WHY DO CONSUMERS BUY PREMIUM PRIVATE LABELS? – SOME QUAL-ITATIVE INSIGHTS Olivier Reimann, University of Vienna, Austria1) Udo Wagner, University of Vienna, Austria2) ABSTRACT Private labels (PL) have developed remarkably well during the last two decades. In many Western European countries they achieved market shares of around 30 percent and more. A phenomenon that recently gained momentum in academia and practice are premium PL (PPL). That are PL positioned as “better and cheaper” or “higher in price and superior in quality” compared to the leading NB. However, with regard to the perceived quality gaps consumers attributed economy and standard PLs vis-à-vis national brands (NB) in the past, it appears contradictory that PPL could become “one of the hottest trends in retail-ing”. To the best of the authors’ knowledge no study published up to now has addressed the following research question: Why do consumers prefer PPL over NB or other PL tiers. The present work tries to provide some insights into this research gap. We conducted two empirical research projects which aim at shedding some light on po-tential drivers of PPL product choice. Both projects are field studies with two leading grocery retail chains in a Central European country as research objects. In this country, the grocery retail market is characterized by a relatively high PL market share (29 percent in 2013) and a high concentration of retailer power: in 2014 the top three retailers cov-ered 85 percent of the overall market. Project I conducted focus group interviews. Partici-pants discussed about economy PL, standard PL and PPL products. Participants debated whether / under which circumstances they would choose one of these PL tiers or a NB. Research project II consisted of semi-structured interviews conducted with consumers in stores. The study revealed major determinants of PPL product choice: (1) quality and price, (2) packaging, (3) origin, and uniqueness, and (4) co-branding. We also gained some insights into the role of psychographics and demographics, brand management and communica-tion as well as on store loyalty. Disadvantageous for retailers, the reasons for PPL prod-uct choice are mainly not PPL brand related. PPL shoppers search for intrinsic or extrin-sic cues and would buy any other brand that offers a similar product. However, the find-ings for co-branding PPL showed that suggestions to apply traditional branding strategies in order to increase (premium) PL success should gain more attention from academia and retailers.

Secondary oxidants in human serum exposed to singlet oxygen: the influence of hemolysis

        Olivier, David,Douillard, Samuel,Lhommeau, Isabelle,Bigot, Edith,Patrice, Thierry Korean Society of Photoscience 2009 Photochemical & photobiological sciences Vol.8 No.10

Singlet oxygen ($^1O_2$) is produced by leucocytes during inflammatory reactions, various biochemical reactions and during photoreactions. It deactivates by reacting with a number of targets to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) and peroxides (that in turn produce ROS). To verify whether serum had the same capability to deactivate secondary oxidants after exposure to $^1O_2$, we provoked a photoreaction using rose bengal added to sera of 53 healthy donors and, after light delivery, reduced 2',7'-dichlorofluorescein (DCFH) was added at the end of irradiation and fluorescence of the oxidized derivative (DCF) was recorded. To avoid optical artifacts, we analyzed the influence of hemolysis. Deactivation capability of secondary oxidants after exposure to $^1O_2$ was stable over a long period of time, slightly different between men and women, but standard biochemistry parameters had little influence. Hemolysis, age and platelet number reduced deactivation of $^1O_2$-induced secondary oxidants. Addition of lysed cancer cells had no influence. Blood sampling in clot act tubes gave a better signal than in heparinized tubes. Red blood cells (RBCs) loaded with antioxidants strongly decreased deactivation of secondary oxidants. Assays are in progress to evaluate the clinical implications of these findings.
