The usage of magnesite production wastes in ceramic tile bodies

Gülfem Binal,Nuran Ay 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2014 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.15 No.2

In this study the possibilty of using magnesite wastes, which were consist of during the production of magnesite from Tutluca village (southwest of Eskisehir/Turkey) ore bed to make ceramic tile bodies were explored. The magnesite deposits of Tutluca village lie in serpentinized harzburgites and dunites of Alpine type ultramafic rocks. The features of magnesite production wastes were investigated by applying thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. Examined magnesite wastes were added to ceramic tile body compositions in different amounts (20-80 wt.%). Prepared ceramic tile samples were sintered in a laboratory type fast firing kiln at firing temperature and cycle of 1165℃ for 37 minute. Linear firing shrinkage, water absorption, firing strength and porosity values of the resultant products were measured as a function of increasing magnesite waste content. XRD and SEM analysis of resultant products were also investigated. As a result of this study, it has been seen that magnesite production wastes can be utilized as an alternative raw materials for production of ceramic tile with the properties in accordance with wall tiles.

The dye adsorption and antibacterial properties of composite polyacrylamide cryogels modified with ZnO

Murat Inal,Nuran Erduran,Murat Gökgöz 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.98 No.-

The present study aimed to modify the surface of polyacrylamide cryogels (PAC) with ZnO nanorods(ZNR) to provide them with antibacterial properties. The synthesized ZNR-modified composite PAC(ZMC) characterized by AAS, FTIR, SEM, XRD, XPS, BET surface analysis and TGA studies. A study of theadsorption of Orange G (OG) and antibacterial effect was performed on the synthesized ZMC. The highestadsorption capacity was determined to be at a dye concentration of 142.79 mg/g at 400 ppm, and a pH of2. From the data obtained, it was found that adsorptionfitted the pseudo-second-order kinetic model andFreundlich isotherm. Modified cryogels could be desorbed in a very short time – such as 30 min – andreused approximately twenty times with 80% efficiency. While ZMC cryogels did not show antibacterialactivity in the dark, inhibition percentages were determined as 99.79 3.94% and 99.811.76%, at1.78 mg/mL cryogel application, MIC90 values were determined as 1.589 0.063 and 0.660 0.028 mg/mL for Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus, respectively under visible light. The results showed thatthe composite cryogels obtained had a very high potential to be applied both in the removal of dyes fromwastewater and in the purification of microorganism-contaminated water.

The Evaluation of Medium Voltage Motor's Current and Voltage Harmonics during Loading

Bora Alboyaci,Nuran Yorukeren 대한전기학회 2007 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.2 No.1

This paper presents the results of investigating harmonic levels on medium voltage motors at loading conditions in air separation plant. The essential results of the measurements of the medium voltage motor harmonics are summarized in the values for the total harmonic distortion (THD). Motors loading case is used to assess the current and voltage harmonic distortions. Proper system analysis is important when adding a new motor starting and controlling the equipment. With the result of the paper it is possible to suggest the most appropriate starting and control method. Two medium voltage motors of air separation unit measurement results and simulations are summarized. Both current and voltage harmonic distortions are fitted by using a linear and exponential regression model. The prediction of THD values can be used for this kind of process for future planning by utilities.

Safety and Angiographic Efficacy of Intra-Arterial Fibrinolytics as Adjunct to Mechanical Thrombectomy: Results from the INFINITY Registry

        Johannes Kaesmacher,Nuran Abdullayev,Basel Maamari,Tomas Dobrocky,Jan Vynckier,Eike I. Piechowiak,Raoul Pop,Daniel Behme,Peter B. Sporns,Hanna Styczen,Pekka Virtanen,Lukas Meyer,Thomas R. Meinel,Danie 대한뇌졸중학회 2021 Journal of stroke Vol.23 No.1

Background and Purpose: Data on safety and efficacy of intra-arterial (IA) fibrinolytics as adjunct to mechanical thrombectomy (MT) are sparse. Methods: INtra-arterial FIbriNolytics In ThrombectomY (INFINITY) is a retrospective multi-center observational registry of consecutive patients with anterior circulation large-vessel occlusion ischemic stroke treated with MT and adjunctive administration of IA fibrinolytics (alteplase [tissue plasminogen activator, tPA] or urokinase [UK]) at 10 European centers. Primary outcome was the occurrence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) according to the European Cooperative Acute Stroke Study II definition. Secondary outcomes were mortality and modified Rankin Scale(mRS) scores at 3 months. Results: Of 5,612 patients screened, 311 (median age, 74 years; 44.1% female) received additional IA after or during MT (194 MT+IA tPA, 117 MT+IA UK). IA fibrinolytics were mostly administered for rescue of thrombolysis in cerebral infarction (TICI) 0-2b after MT (80.4%, 250/311). sICH occurred in 27 of 308 patients (8.8%), with an increased risk in patients with initial TICI0/1 (adjusted odds ratio[aOR], 2.3; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.1 to 5.0 per TICI grade decrease) or in those with intracranial internal carotid artery occlusions (aOR, 3.7; 95% CI, 1.2 to 12.5). In patients with attempted rescue of TICI0-2b and available angiographic follow-up, 116 of 228 patients (50.9%) showed any angiographic reperfusion improvement after IA fibrinolytics, which was associated with mRS ≤2 (aOR, 3.1; 95% CI, 1.4 to 6.9). Conclusions: Administration of IA fibrinolytics as adjunct to MT is performed rarely, but can improve reperfusion, which is associated with better outcomes. Despite a selection bias, an increased risk of sICH seems possible, which underlines the importance of careful patient selection.

Preparation and characterization of pH-sensitive alginate-g-poly(Nvinyl-2-pyrrolidone)/gelatin blend beads

Murat Inal,Nuran Işıklan,Mustafa Yigitoglu 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.52 No.-

In this study, pH-sensitive alginate-g-poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)/gelatin (SA-g-PVP/Gel) blend beadswere produced as controlled release system. Structural features of the SA-g-PVP/Gel beads werecharacterized by FTIR, X-RD, DSC, SEM and mercury intrusion-porosimetry. In vitro nifedipine (NFD)release was investigated at pH 1.2 for 2 h and followed by immersing at pH 7.4 for 6 h. Effects of diverseparameters such as grafting of PVP, copolymer/gelatin blend ratio, concentration of cross-linker and drugamount on the release of NFD were investigated. The NFD release from SA-g-PVP/Gel beadsdemonstrated pH-sensitivity of drug release. Cytotoxicity experiments of SA-g-PVP and SA-g-PVP/Gelbeads displayed their biocompatible character.

Beydag, Kerime Derya,Komurcu, Nuran Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.5

Aim: This one group semi-experimental study was performed to develop and adapt flow charts of nursing practices applied to gynecologic oncology patients to the field. Methods: The research was conducted between October 2008 and March 2009 in 6 hospitals in Istanbul (3 health ministry hospitals, 2 private hospitals and 1 university hospital) with effective programs. The scope of the study included 97 midwives/nurses who had been working as caregivers of gynecologic oncology patients in this unit at least for 6 months and who participated in this study voluntarily; 87 people composed the sample because of the absence of others on vacation or sick leave when the data were collected or who did not wish to participate. The data were in descriptive information form collected via "Forms to Determine the Efficiency of Flow Charts". Before data collection, risks related to gynecologic oncology problems were identified, a literature scanning was made for existing flow charts based on actual practices and the discovered charts were reviewed. As a result of the evaluations, it was decided to create 15 flow charts intended for risks, symptoms, operation processes and discharge. Questionnaires to determine activity were applied to participants before and after practice. Results: As a result of the study, it was determined that the efficiency of the flow charts increased significantly (p <0.01) after practice of the participants, nosignificant relationships (p>0.01) being apparent with age group, education level, occupational period in the job and in the gynecologic oncology field and evaluations of the practice before and after it was applied. Conclusion: The results of the study revealed that nursing participants in university and private hospitals and who supported the existence of a flow chart in the field evaluated the flow charts positively.

      • Early Diagnosis Behavior in Turkish Women with and without a Family History of Cervical Cancer

Gunaydin, Cansu,Gencturk, Nuran Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.2

Background: This study was planned as comparative and descriptive in order to measure and evaluate the knowledge and attitudes regarding early diagnosis of women with and without a family history of cervical cancer. Materials and Methods: The study sample consisted of the relatives of female patients (N=253) who were admitted to Istanbul University of Medicine. Women with a family history of cervical cancer formed the case group, while those without family history of cervical cancer constituted the control group. Two distinct data collection tools, a questionnaire and the Miller Behavioral Style Scale (MBSS), were used in order to obtain data for evaluation with SPSS for Windows 20.0 statistics package program. Results: It was found that 61.0% of the case group with family history of cervical cancer and 19.0% of the control group without family history of cervical cancer were using early diagnostic methods. Thus the presence of an individual with cervical cancer in the family affected the attitudes towards early diagnosis. It was further found that the level of knowledge on cervical cancer and PAP smear test was higher in the case group, which was more sensitive with regard to being informed about cervical cancer as compared to general society. However, the average MBSS scores were not significantly different compared to the control group. Conclusions: It was noted that, women participating this study knowledgeable, but this did not necessarily transform into better behavior.
