Delayed Ettringite Formation (DEF) is seen as a form of internal sulfate attack of cementitious materials, caused by early age heating to a temperature higher than 70°C. In this paper, the effect of fly ash on delayed ettringite formation of heat-cured cementbased mortars was investigated. To fulfil the aim of this study, a portion of cement was replaced by class F-fly ash, with three different dosages (10, 20 and 30%). The mortars were heat-cured at early-age, and the tests of expansion, mechanical strength, dynamic elastic modulus, mercury porosity and thermogravimetric analysis were carried on these mortars along a period of 650 days. Additionally, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observations were realized. The results obtained highlighted the mitigation effects of fly ash on DEF: A replacement of the cement used with 20% to 30% of fly ash was efficient to eliminate the long-term swelling due to DEF. This positive impact was explained by the combined effects of the high Al2O3 content of fly ash and the portlandite consumption induced by the pozzolanic reactions.

In the present study, a controlled release electrochemical (CRE) technique based on the controlled release of Cu2+ ion from Cu anode in the presence of decanoic acid (HDe) has been used to synthesize Cu(II) decanoate (CuDe2) complex. The effect of applied voltages (1–10 V) and electrolyte concentrations (0.1–2.0M CH3COONH4) during the electrolysis on the nanoparticles obtained was studied using TEM. The results reveal that small-sized nanoparticles (2ffi1 nm) were obtained by using lowest applied voltage and CH3COONH4 concentration (1V and 0.1M, respectively). The smallest nanoparticle obtained was then used in the cytotoxicity study against A549 and HeLa cells. The synthesized complex gives moderate cytotoxic effect on the selected cells (IC50 = 15.85 μM and 20.89 μM, respectively) and low cytotoxic effect on normal cells (IMR90). Apoptosis is the mode of cell death based on the apoptosis assay that has been conducted.

Segmentation is very important in early stage of image processing pipelines. Final results of image processing are strongly depending on the initial image segmentation quality. A good quality result often comes at the price of high computational cost including computation speed. Image segmentation requires long computation task caused by sequential processing of huge sizes of image and complex tasks. Nowadays, multi-core architectures are emerging as an attractive platform for parallel processing because it has two or more independent cores in a single physical package and their comparatively low cost. In this paper, two parallelization strategies (fine-grain and coarse-grain approach) are proposed for computing leaf image segmentation. The Canny Edge Detector and Otsu thresholding methods are used due to their wide range of usage for leaf segmentation in plant classification. The implementation is developed under multi-core architecture with shared memory multiprocessors. The OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing), an API (Application Programming Interface) is utilized for writing multi-threaded applications in shared memory architecture. The comparative study with two parallelization strategies is discussed further in this paper.

Many factors contribute to the effectiveness in implementing organizational change. However, many change effort fail due to several factors such as lack of commitment, style of leadership, and emotional distress of the employees who have to implement the change. This study was intended to determine the influence of leadership behavior and organizational commitment on organizational readiness for change in a higher learning institution. It was based on a conceptual framework that combined part of an adapted model from organizational development and change theory. A total of 169 academic staff from the main and branch campuses UiTM throughout Malaysia were selected based on stage and cluster sampling to participate in this study. The result shows that there is a significant relationship between organizational commitment and leadership behavior on organizational readiness for change. The findings also revealed that 36.5% of the variance in readiness for change is explained by organizational commitment and transactional leadership behavior. In determining the role of the organization commitment as a moderating variable, the result of the study indicates significant moderating effect of affective commitment on the relationship between transformational leadership behavior and organizational readiness for change. This study implied that building organizational commitment as well as developing transformational and transactional leadership behavior could contribute to formulation of organizational readiness for change and subsequently lead to the success of a change program.

The majority of students in higher education institutions are among generation Z. They have always depended on e-learning to support their learning activities. Therefore, higher education institutions should provide an attractive e-learning platform. E-learning interface design should be reviewed frequently to smoothen the interaction between students and the e-learning system. It is because interface design that fulfils generation Z students’ preferences and expectations may upsurge their participation in e-learning. However, interface design has continually been condemned and turn out to be part of the problem that contributes to the failure of e-learning. Lack of consideration about generation Z students’ preferences towards the interface design of e-learning is the factor that leads to these causes. Therefore, this study focused on identifying design characteristics of colour and graphic elements of e-learning from generation Z students’ perception. This research involved a purposive sampling method for questionnaire among students of generation Z. The findings from this study could help e-learning developers to design the interface of e-learning that is suitable for generation Z students that will consider color and graphic as important characteristics.
