        Non-Conventional Roughages in Tropical and Sub-Tropical Asian-Australasian Countries - Review -

Nitis, I.M. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1999 Animal Bioscience Vol.12 No.3

Non-conventional roughage (NCR) is shrub and tree fodders, crop residues and agroindustrial oy-products which is not commonly used as livestock feed traditionally and commercially. Eventhough many sources of NCR is available, the farmers perceptions on NCR not only vary from country to country in tropical and sub-tropical Asian-Australasian countries, but also vary from region to region within the country. Chemical composition and nutritive value of NCR are not only vary from species to species but also vary between species within the genera, between provenances/cultivars within the species and such variations are affected by season, climatic zone, topography and land utilization. The nutritive value of NCR can be improved by physical, chemical and biological treatments and conservation. Feeding NCR to ruminant and non-ruminant is not only improve performance of the livestock but also economically feasible. Future direction of NCR is inventarization, exchange information through NCR information centre, integration with either agrisilvicultural, agrisilvipastoral or silvipastoral system, and use of genetic engineering to produce high quality NCR that ultimately become conventional roughage for agroindustry and agribissiness.

Lithologic modeling using VES method for subsurface structure delineation with geological constraints, eastern margin of Chiang Mai Basin and southwestern margin of Mae On Depression, San Kamphaeng District, Chiang Mai Province, northern Thailand

        Niti Mankhemthong,Chatbodin Phanratana,Suwimon Udphuay 한국지질과학협의회 2021 Geosciences Journal Vol.25 No.4

We conducted a vertical electrical sounding (VES) survey over the Quaternary sediments covering a transitional region between the eastern part of the Chiang Mai rift basin and the Mae On Depression, northern Thailand and constructed 1D lithologic subsurface models for delineating geological structures of the underlying basement rocks. Thirteen VES stations were collected and divided into northern and southern sub-parallel alignments trending WSW-ENE across the high magnetic contrast zone. We employed a Schlumberger array with the maximum half current electrode separations around 465–500 m, using the ABEM Terrameter SAS4000 resistivity meter. The VES data were inverted using EarthImagerTM 1D program. We classified four geoelectric units composed of (1) very-low-resistivity saturated sediments (17–39 Ωm), (2) low-resistivity unsaturated sediments (33–581 Ωm), (3) medium-resistivity sedimentary rocks (57–110 Ωm), and (4) high-resistivity mafic volcanic rocks (176–804 Ωm). Shallow zones of the geoelectric models were interpreted as sediment fill with layered strata with variable resistivity because of different water saturation and clay content. The sediment fill thickens westward to the Chiang Mai rift basin. Deeper zones of higher resistivity are interpreted as the underlying basement rocks. These basement rocks show contrasting resistivities with the western part modeled as clastic sedimentary rocks of sandstone and the eastern part as mafic volcanic rocks. Geological observation evidence of westward-dipping faults and chronostratigraphic results integrated with the 1D lithologic models and drilled well information support a structural model of a reverse fault trending SW-NE between the Permian volcanic and Carboniferous sedimentary basements. This structure is part of the Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai Suture Zone associated with the eastward subduction model during the Permo-Triassic Indosinian Orogeny in northern Thailand.

Mathematical model and experimental validation of the synergistic effect of selective enantioseparation of (S)-amlodipine from pharmaceutical wastewater using a HFSLM

        Niti Sunsandee,Natchanun Leepipatpiboon,Ura Pancharoen,Prakorn Ramakul,Milan Hronec 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.4

A case study on the synergistic enantioseparation of (S)-amlodipine from pharmaceutical wastewater by using hollow fiber supported liquid membrane (HFSLM) was examined. A chiral reaction flux mathematical model was applied. Optimum conditions achieved the highest percentages of extraction and stripping viz. 84% and 80%, respectively. Relevant parameters affecting the enantioseparation efficiency of (S)-amlodipine were determined. Standard deviation percentages were 2.31% for extraction and 1.26% for stripping. It was found that the mathematical model proved to be in good agreement with the experimental data.

Quantitative Dissection of Antioxidative Bioactive Components in Cultivated and Wild Sesame Germplasm Reveals Potentially Exploitable Wide Genetic Variability

Niti Pathak,Ashwani Kumar Rai,Supradip Saha,Suresh Walia,Soumitra Kumar Sen,Kangila Venkataraman Bhat 한국작물학회 2014 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.17 No.3

Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the oldest oilseed crops grown in India and worldwide. This oilseed crop has high nutritionalvalue due to the presence of antioxidants such as lignans and tocopherols. Screening of oilseed germplasm for important nutritionalattributes is of prime importance in quality breeding programs. In the present study, the content of lignans (sesamin andsesamolin) and tocopherol homologues (α-, γ -, and δ-tocopherol) was determined using reverse phase HPLC (RP-HPLC) in 143sesame lines collected from diverse agro-ecological zones of India. Exploitable levels of sesamin, sesamolin, γ-, and δ-tocopherolwas observed in the studied sesame lines. Sesamum indicum cultivar CO 1, introgressed line MKN 9, and Sesamum malabaricumshowed high values for sesamin. Exotic and indigenous accessions of S. indicum (EC 542283 and IC 132176, IC 204681, IC 204773)showed high sesamolin contents. Cultivars, AKT 64, AKT 101, Phule til 1, and Tapi A showed high values for γ - and δ-tocopherol. The average content of sesamin and sesamolin was 0.86 and 0.50 mg g-1 seed, respectively. The average tocopherol content (292 μgg-1 seed) found in this study indicates the presence of a high amount of tocopherol in Indian sesame germplasm. Superior genotypesof sesame reported in this study could be utilized in sesame breeding programs for enhancing oil yield and nutritional attributes

        Niti Birbian,Jagtar Singh,Surinder Kumar Jindal 대한천식알레르기학회 2014 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.6 No.3

Purpose: Asthma is the most prevalent disease in India according to the national survey conducted by NFHS 2 in 1998-1999. Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), a collagenase encoded by the MMP-2 gene, degrades the type IV collagen and is responsible for inflammatory responses. This is a pilotstudy evaluating the role of MMP-2 -1306C/T promoter single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in asthma pathogenesis. Methods: A case-controlstudy was performed with a total of 824 adult subjects, including 410 adult asthmatics and 414 healthy controls from regions of North India. TheMMP-2 -1306C/T polymorphism was genotyped by the Tetra-Primer Amplification Refractory Mutation System Polymerase Chain Reaction (Tetra-Primer ARMS PCR). Results: Statistical analysis of the results for the MMP-2 -1306C/T polymorphism revealed an extremely protective role of themutant T allele in asthma pathogenesis with OR=0.45, 95% CI (0.35-0.58) and P=0.000. The heterozygous CT genotype also conferred protectionfrom asthma with OR=0.37, 95% CI (0.27-0.51) and P=0.000. The homozygous TT genotype was also significantly associated with asthma withOR=0.35, 95% CI (0.16-0.72) and P=0.002. Moreover, the polymorphism was significantly associated with all the phenotypic traits of the disease. Conclusions: The MMP-2 -1306C/T promoter polymorphism confers significant protection from asthma in the studied North Indian population.

Positive impact of COVID-19 induced lockdown on the environment of India’s national capital, Delhi

        Niti Yashvardhini,Amit Kumar,Manjush Gaurav,Kumar Sayrav,Deepak Kumar Jha 대한공간정보학회 2022 Spatial Information Research Vol.30 No.2

The rapid emergence of novel coronavirus disease has shown some positive impact on the health of natural environment. Present study was aimed to assess the impact of COVID-19 induced lockdown on the water quality of Yamuna River and air quality of national capital territory, Delhi. Significant decline in air quality pollutants like NH3, SO2, CO, PM2.5, NO2 were observed. The major decline was found in the levels of PM2.5, SO2, NO2 and NH3. The less significant decline was seen in the CO level during the lockdown period. Furthermore, the overall decline in the concentrations of BOD, COD and increase in pH suggesting an improvement in Yamuna water during the lockdown. However, the concentration of DO was found insignificant during the lockdown period. Additionally, comparative analysis of morbidity, mortality as well causalities during this period has also been recorded to establish correlation of pre and post COVID-19 situations. Altogether, present study is found to be a useful supplement for policymakers because marked improvements in the water and air quality indices have been observed after enforcement of lockdown leading to control of the various pollution sources. Therefore, periodical lockdown can be utilized as an effective mitigation measures for natures’ restoration.

      • Emotions and Awareness of Rights among the Thais

Niti Pawakapan 부산외국어대학교 아세안연구원 2015 Suvannabhumi Vol.7 No.2

This article is based on a research conducted from 2009 to 2012, on the political disputes in Thailand. During the data collections periods, it was common to hear the frustration, bitterness and anger, expressed by the Redshirts, especially those who lived in the northeast and northern regions. Coming from the said research, this paper will examine the relationship between emotions and rights. According to the sociology of emotions, there are connections between macrolevel social processes and the arousal of emotions. Emotions arising from macrostructural processes may affect individuals at the microlevel, prompting them into actions collectively. In addition, expressions of resentment and articulation for vengeance can be interpreted as the emotions related to the awareness of rights, which may include the rights to one’s needs and the access to resources that fulfill such needs. It will demonstrate how emotions, political demonstrations and the increasing awareness of rights, are related.

Production and Secretion of Human Interleukin-18 in Transgenic Tobacco Cell Suspension Culture

Sharma, Niti,Kim, Tae-Geum,Yang, Moon-Sik The Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengine 2006 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.11 No.2

Interleukin-18 (IL-18), otherwise known as interferon-gamma-inducing factor (IGIF), is one of several well characterized and important cytokines that contribute to host defenses. The complementary DNA (cDNA) of mature human interleukin-18 gene (hIL-18) was fused with the signal peptide of the rice amylase 1A gene (Ramy1A) and introduced into the plant expression vector under the control of a duplicated CaMV 35S promoter. The recombinant plasmid was transformed into tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv Havana) using the Agrobacterium-mediated transformation method. The integration of the hlL-18 gene into the genome of transgenic tobacco plants was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and its expression was observed in the suspension cells that were derived from the transgenic plant callus by using Northern blot analysis. The hlL-18 protein was detected in the extracts of the transgenic callus and in the medium of the transgenic tobacco suspension culture by using immunoblot analysis. Based upon enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) results, the expression level of the hlL-18 protein approximated $166{\mu}g/L$ in the suspension culture medium. Bioassay results from the induction of $interferon-{\gamma}$ from a KG-1 cell line indicated that the hlL-18 secreted into the suspension culture medium was bioactive.
