A survey was conducted from July 2000 to December 2001 to generate information on leafminer flies belonging to the family Agromyzidae, their host plants, and indigenous parasitoids in selected municipalities of the Cordillera, Philippines. Leaf samples of vegetable crops, ornamental plants, and weeds infested with leafminer flies were collected from the fields and reared in the laboratory for emergence of leafminer flies and parasitoids. We identified 26 vegetable crops and 19 ornamental plants and weeds that were infested by leafminer flies. Five leafminer flies species were identified. Four species belonged to genus Liriomyza and one species belonged to genus Chrotomyia. Their taxonomic identification were Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard), Liriomyza trifolli (Burgess), Liriomyza satibae Blanchard, Liriomyza chinensis (Kato), and Chrotomyia horticola. The indigenous parasitoids identified were Asecodes delucchii (Boucek), Diglyphus isaea (Walker), Hemiptarsenus varicornis (Girault), Neochrysocharis formosa (Westwood), Neochrysocharis okazakii Kamijo, Pnigalio katonis (Ishii), Quadrastichus liriomyzae Hansson & LaSalle, Opius sp., and Zagrammosoma sp.

The phrase “locally advanced carcinoma of the vulva” has often been mentioned in the literature, though not accurately defined, or even leading to the interpretation overlapping. Grounded on cervical cancer experience, we are able to state that designing a tailored primary strategy based on clinically measurable adverse prognostic factors represents the cornerstone of therapy. This fact urged us to rethink about the real usefulness of the concept of locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. We will refer to this concept as a clinical entity emerging from a rigorous workup which is a valuable guiding tool in the context of a thorough debate about the best primary treatment approach to be used. Furthermore, bulky tumors of the vulva have been associated with a worse prognosis on several occasions. Some authors have questioned the fact that tumor size has not been considered in the staging system. Finally, a standardized definition will help us compare the results obtained, which is extremely necessary given the worldwide low prevalence of this disease.

Anterior exposure for cervical chordomas remains challenging because of the anatomical complexities and the restoration of the dimensional balance of the atlanto-axial region. In this report, we describe and analyze the transmandibular transoral approach and multilevel spinal reconstruction for upper cervical chordomas. We report two cases of cervical chordomas (C2 and C2–C4) that were treated by marginal en bloc resection with a transmandibular approach and anterior-posterior multilevel spinal reconstruction/fixation. Both patients showed clinical improvement. Postoperative imaging was negative for any residual tumor and revealed adequate reconstruction and stabilization. Marginal resection requires more extensive exposure to allow the surgeon access to the entire pathology, as an inadequate tumor margin is the main factor that negatively affects the prognosis. Anterior and posterior reconstruction provides a rigid reconstruction that protects the medulla and decreases axial pain by properly stabilizing the cervical spine.
