Analysis of Bulk Concentration on Double-Layer Structure for Electrochemical Capacitors

Double-layer capacitors (DLCs) are developed with high surface electrodes to achieve a high capacitance value. In the present work, the initial bulk concentration of 1 mol/m3 and 3 mol /m3 are selected to show the consequential effects on the performance of a double-layer capacitor. A 1D model of COMSOL Multiphysics has been developed to analyze the electric field and potential in cell voltage, the electric displacement field and polarization induced by the field, and energy density in a double-layer structure. The electrostatics and the electric circuit modes in COMSOL are used to simulate the electrochemical processes in the double-layer structure. The analytical analysis of a double-layer capacitor with different initial bulk concentrations is investigated by using Poisson-Nernst-Plank equations. From the simulation results, the differential capacitance changes as a function of compact layer thickness and initial bulk concentration. The energy density varies with the differential capacitance and voltage window. The values of energy density are dominated by the interaction of ions in the solution and electrode surface.

This study examined a survey data set of 840 observations from 105 beef merchandisers in South Korea, regarding their perceptions toward food safety-enhancing treatments on imported chilled beef products. Estimation of a multinomial logit model (MNL) indicated that price and meat color attributes are important in determining Korean beef buyers` purchase choice. The study results showed that the Korean beef buyers are willing to pay a premium (10 %) for bio-preservatives packaging, while they are reluctant to accept steam pasteurization technology. The Korean beef merchandisers` positive response toward bio-preservative treatment suggests that adoption of this food safety technology may contribute to improvement of quality control of imported chilled beef in the Korean beef market.
Price Transmission Between U.S. Grain And Korean Import Grain

This study examines the price transmission between U.S. farm level grain prices and Korean imported grain prices. Price transmission results for corn, soybeans, and wheat indicate that the policy of liberalizing of imported grain markets in Korea has been progressing relatively well. This is important for Korean grain importers and livestock producers who rely heavily on international price signals.

It is known that commonly prescribed drugs are associated with hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) manifested with microanigopathic hemolytic anemia (MAHA), thrombocytopenia, and acute renal failure. Rifampicin may cause hemolysis, thrombocytopenia, and acute renal failure. However, rifampicin associated HUS has been rarely reported. We report a case of HUS in a patient taking rifampicin. A 74-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital due to azotemia aggravation. Her previous medical history included leprosy (30yr), HT (5yr), and angina pectoris (5yr). Her medication has not been changed during recent 5 years except for recent start of rifampicin 450 mg per day 5 days before. Laboratory findings revealed MAHA, thrombocytopenia, elevated reticulocyte count and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and lower haptoglobin level. Her serum creatinine level was increased to 6.68 mg/dL. In addition to immediate withdrawal of rifampicin medication, three times of hemodialysis and ten times of consecutive plasma exchange improved her renal function and restored above abnormal laboratory findings. She is currently following to the outpatient clinic without renal impairment. We should keep in mind that rifampicin is one of drug to induce HUS.
