The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of principals’ leadership behaviors on students’ math achievements via professional community and teachers’ instructional practices in economically disadvantaged environments in lower secondary education. The study was completed in 36 lower secondary public schools located in Altındag and Mamak boroughs in the city of Ankara, Turkey. A two-level quantitative research design was used to conduct this study. The data was analyzed through school-level factors such as professional community and teachers’ instructional practices. Research findings underline that principals’ leadership behaviors have indirect positive effects on students’ math achievements with the mediating role of math teachers. Principals should recognize and enhance the improvement of teachers' shared responsibility and deprivatized practices to increase the quality of instruction and student achievement.

The relative activities of neutral, cationic, and anionic chromium ascorbate complexes toward isolated human mitochondrial and genomic DNA were investigated at physiologically relevant conditions by agarose gel electrophoresis. A direct relationship between the charge of the Cr(III) species and their DNA-damaging properties was found. The cationic species were found to be fully capable of DNA-cleavage, even in short incubation periods. Incubations were also performed in the presence of amino acids. No apparent effect was observed under the applied experimental conditions to facilitate or prevent damage through the ternary amino acid-Cr-DNA adduct formation or binary chromium-amino acid complex formation.

Glycogen storage disease (GSD) is a group of inherited disorders, which result in the deficiency of enzymes involved in glycogen metabolism, leading to an accumulation of glycogen in various organs. Deficiency of amylo-1-6-glicosidase (debranching enzyme) causes glycogen storage disease type III (GSD III). The main problems that anesthesiologists face in patients with GSD III include hypoglycemia, muscle weakness, delayed awakening due to abnormal liver function, possible difficulty in airway, and cardiomyopathy. In the face of these difficulties, airway preparation and appropriate glucose monitoring and support during the fasting period are important. The doses of the drugs to be used should be calculated considering the increased volume of distribution and decreased metabolic activity of the liver. We present the case of a child with GSD IIIa who underwent dental prosedation under general anesthesia. She was also being prepared for liver transplantation. This case was additionally complicated by the patient’s serious allergic reaction to eggs and milk.
Novel Thunderstorm Alert System (NOTHAS)
Vlado Spiridonov,Mladjen Curic,Nedim Sladic,Boro Jakimovski 한국기상학회 2021 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.57 No.3
A “ No vel Th understorm A lert S ystem” (NOTHAS) has been developed and extensively tested for forecast and warnings of mid-latitude and tropical convective events. The design of the system showed some potential advantages compared to earlier alert systems, mainly in reducing uncertainties in predictions by taking the given maximum hourly local-scale signal. It represents a dynamic tool which allows the use of the probability concept of multivariate distribution and integrating it into general function by taking all convective parameters. It utilizes the latest developed microphysical parameterization scheme using a scale and aerosol awareness convective scheme and the sharpest criteria for mid-latitude storms. NOTHAS shows consistency and some kind of flexibility in post-processing applications, regardless of different parameterizations used in the ensemble or deterministic forecasts. The scientific verification shows a high level of accuracy in all significant scores which indicates that severe weather outlooks produced by NOTHAS for several hours ahead are in good alignment with observed thunderstorm activity. This novel tool shows a good performance which has sufficient merit for further additional testing and system evaluation of different severe mid-latitude and tropical storms, tropical cyclones and other severe weather cases across regions.

The aim of this study was to produce galactooligosaccharides (GOS) from lactose using β-galactosidase from Aspergillus oryzae immobilized on a low-pressure plasma-modified cellulose acetate (CA) membrane. Specifically,a novel method was developed for multilayer enzyme immobilization involving polyethyleneimine (PEI)-enzyme aggregate formation and growth on a CA membrane. A large amount of enzyme (997 μg/cm2 membrane) was immobilized with 66% efficiency. The Km value for the immobilized enzyme was estimated to be 48 mM, which indicates decreased affinity for the substrate, whereas the Vmax value was smaller. The immobilized enzyme showed good storage and operational stability. The half-life of the immobilized enzyme on the membrane was about 1 month at 30ºC and ~ 60 h at 60°C. Maximum GOS production of 27% (w/w) was achieved with 70% lactose conversion from 320 g/L of lactose at pH 4.5 and 60°C. Trisaccharides were the major types of GOS formed and accounted for about 75% of the total GOS produced. Based on these results, immobilized enzyme technology could be applied to GOS production from lactose.
Construction of genetic linkage map for Ficus carica L. based on AFLP, SSR, and SRAP markers
Hatice Ikten,Selcan Sevinc Solak,Osman Gulsen,Nedim Mutlu,Cengiz Ikten 한국원예학회 2019 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.60 No.5
A new genetic linkage map of Ficus carica (2n = 2x = 26) was constructed using 149 F1 progeny derived from the crossbetween two fi g cultivars, ‘Bursa Siyahı’ (BS) and ‘Ak Ilek’ (AK). Fifty-two amplifi ed fragment length polymorphism, 49simple sequence repeat (SSR), 16 sequence-related amplifi ed polymorphism (SRAP), and 12 sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR–SRAP) combinations were used to generate markers for the map. The BS map consisted of 229 markers, distributed to 16 linkage groups (LGs), with an average marker density of 5.98 cM and map distance of 1342 cM. The AKlinkage map carried 244 markers, distributed to 16 LGs, with an average marker density of 4.90 cM and map distance of1191 cM. The consensus map comprises 355 markers, 1474 cM in length, with average marker density of 4.15 cM. The mapindicates the location of new SSRs, nine of which were transferred from related species, and might be helpful for mappingquantitative trait loci that control important horticultural traits in the future.

Colloidal quantum dots are nano semiconductor materials that have been found in many applications, producing multiple exciton generation, unique optical and electronic properties, adjustable in size and bandwidth. Synthesized QDs are expected to exhibit high photoluminescence quantum yield and monodisperse properties according to their application area. Cannula method was adapted together with the organometallic synthesis method for the first time in the literature to increase the photoluminescence quantum yield of organometallic CdTe QD and minimize the full width at half maximum value of the photoluminescence band. Injection of precursors by the Cannula method is much faster than the injecting with the conventional method of using a glass syringe, which limits the size distribution in the solution during synthesis. In addition, the fastest injection method using Cannula method yields the shortest full width half maximum value of 27.20 nm for CdTe QDs in the literature. The photoluminescence quantum yield value of the CdTe QDs synthesized by the classical method was 8.12±2.1%, while the photoluminescence quantum yield of the CdTe QDs synthesized by the Cannula method was increased to 25.66±2.1%.

The radical scavenging, antimicrobial, and antispasmodic activities and the composition of Origanum acutidens (Hand.-Mazz.) Ietswaart (Order Labiatte) essential oil were evaluated in vitro. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis of the oil resulted in the identification of 20 compounds, representing 93.61% of the oil; carvacrol (65%) was the main component. The sample was also subjected to a screening for antioxidant activity by using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and β-carotene/linoleic acid assays. The essential oil exhibited strong antioxidant activity. Using the agar disk diffusion method, antimicrobial activities of the essential oils were determined for nine microorganisms; antimicrobial activity was shown against eight of them. O. acutidens oil exhibited spontaneous contractions in rat ileum at the 100% level at 0.1mg/mL level.
