In Vitro Effects of Rabeprazole on Human Pylorus Tone

( Necdet Fatih Yasar ),( Erdal Polat ),( Mustafa Duman ),( Meltem Dagdelen ),( Mehmet Yalcın Gunal ),( Orhan Uzun ),( Cebrail Akyuz ),( Kıvanc Derya Peker ),( Sinan Yol ) 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회 2015 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.21 No.2

Background/Aims It has been reported that proton pump inhibitors induce relaxation in different types of smooth muscles. The aim of this study is to investigate in vitro effects of proton pump inhibitors on human pylorus muscle. Methods Pyloric sphincters were studied in 10 patients who were operated for stomach cancer. In isolated organ bath, control and response to rabeprazole were recorded following contraction with carbachol. During the treatment experiment, while distilled water was applied during the control experiment in every 5 minutes, rabeprazole was administered in every 5 minutes at doses of 10-6, 10-5, 10-4, and 10-3 M respectively. Contraction frequencies, maximum contraction values and muscle tones were measured. Results The contraction frequencies in the control group were greater than the rabeprazole group in the second, third and fourth intervals while the maximum contraction values in the rabeprazole group were lower in the fourth interval. Even though muscles tones were not different in both groups during all intervals, it was remarkable that the muscle tone was significantly decreased in the rabeprazole group during the fourth interval compared to the first and second intervals. Conclusions In the present study, high doses of rabeprazole reduced contraction frequencies, maximum contraction values, and muscle tone of human pylorus. • Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Fibrin on Bile Duct Anastomosis in a Rat

        ( Necdet Ozcay ),( Ali Ozant ),( Hanife Ozkayalar ),( Hasan Besim ) 대한간학회 2018 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2018 No.1

Aims: Promoting the healing process and increasing the regenerative capacity of the biliary system might play a crucial role in preventing biliary complications following hepatopancreaticobiliary operations and liver transplantation. Aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of platelet-rich-fibrin (PRF) concentrate on the bile duct anastomosis healing process in rats. Methods: Thirty male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were used for the study. The animals were allocated into three groups: Group I Control Group (n=10): Anastomosis to the common bile duct (CBD) with a stent. Group II PRF Group (n=10): Anastomosis to the CBD with a stent and covered with PRF. Group III Sham Group (n=10): Preparation of the common bile duct, no anastomosis. The animals were followed up for 1 month, then sacrificed. Study parameters were adhesions around the anastomosis, bridging the bile duct tissue thickness over the stent and histopathologic examination of the bridging bile duct tissue. Results: CBD anastomosis using a stent caused severe adhesion around the anastomosis, bridging bile duct tissues were weak and histopathologically, healing was incomplete in most of the control animals. However, PRF application significantly reduced the adhesions, increased the quality of the bridging bile duct tissues and caused complete healing histologically. Conclusions: PRF is a safe, autologous, easily prepared membrane. The present study findings shows that PRF prevents local complications, and increases the healing capacity of the bile duct after CBD anastomosis. Therefore, it might be a new treatment option for preventing bile duct complications in liver transplantation patients.

New analytic approximate solutions to the generalized regularized long wave equations

        Necdet Bildik,Sinan Deniz 대한수학회 2018 대한수학회보 Vol.55 No.3

In this paper, the new optimal perturbation iteration method has been applied to solve the generalized regularized long wave equation. Comparing the new analytic approximate solutions with the known exact solutions reveals that the proposed technique is extremely accurate and effective in solving nonlinear wave equations. We also show that, unlike many other methods in literature, this method converges rapidly to exact solutions at lower order of approximations.

Fracture resistance of endodontically treated canines restored with different sizes of fiber post and all-ceramic crowns

Sebnem Begum Turker,Hasan Necdet Alkumru,Buket Akalin 대한치과보철학회 2016 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.8 No.2

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to determine the fracture resistance and the mode of fracture of endodontically treated teeth restored with different fiber posts and all-ceramic crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two glass fiber reinforced post systems in two different sizes and polyethylene fiber ribbon in two different thicknesses (n=10) were used. The specimens, restored with all-ceramic crowns, were subjected to a compressive load (in N) delivered at a 130-degree angle to the long axis until a fracture could be noted. The results were analyzed statistically with a One-Way ANOVA test (P<.05). RESULTS Statistically significant differences were observed between the mean fracture resistance values of Postec, Snowlight, and Kerr Connect thin specimens (P<.0095). The Postec results (395.70 N) were found to be significantly higher than the others. No statistical difference was observed among the thick specimens (P<.2657). The mean fracture resistance values of the Snowlight thick samples were found to be higher than those of the Snowlight thin samples. The specimens were always fractured around the cemento-enamel junction at the palatinal side. No post fracture was observed for the thin Snowlight and Kerr Connect specimens or for the thick Postec and Kerr Connect specimens. Among the common failure types of the specimens, the worst was observed to be the root fracture failure. The highest post dislodgement failure result (80%) was obtained from the thin Kerr Connect specimen. CONCLUSION In terms of optimizing fracture resistance, the fiber post size selection should be done according to the forces applied to the restored teeth.

Post-COVID-19 pain syndrome: a descriptive study in Turkish population

Topal, Ilknur,Ozcelik, Necdet,Atayoglu, Ali Timucin The Korean Pain Society 2022 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.35 No.4

Background: The new type of corona virus has a wide range of symptoms. Some people who have COVID-19 can experience long-term effects from their infection, known as post-COVID conditions. The authors aimed to investigate prolonged musculoskeletal pain as a symptom of the post-COVID-19 condition. Methods: This is a descriptive study on the patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in a university hospital, between March 2020 and March 2021. Patient records and an extensive questionnaire were used to obtain relevant demographic and clinical characteristics, including hospitalization history, comorbidities, smoking history, duration of the pain, the area of pain, and the presence of accompanying neuropathic symptoms. Results: Of the diagnosed patients, 501 agreed to participate in the study. Among the participants, 318 had musculoskeletal pain during COVID-19 infection, and 69 of them reported prolonged pain symptoms as part of their a post-COVID condition which could not be attributed to any other cause. The mean duration of pain was 4.38 ± 1.73 months, and the mean pain level was 7.2 ± 4.3. Neuropathic pain symptoms such as burning sensation (n = 16, 23.2%), numbness (n = 15, 21.7%), tingling (n = 10, 14.5%), stinging (n = 4, 5.8%), freezing (n = 1, 1.4%) were accompanied in patients with prolonged musculoskeletal pain. Conclusions: Patients with COVID-19 may develop prolonged musculoskeletal pain. In some patients, neuropathic pain accompanies it. Awareness of prolonged post-COVID-19 pain is crucial for its early detection and management.

The Healing Effects of Autologous Mucosal Grafts in Experimentally Injured Rabbit Maxillary Sinuses

        Murat Topdag,Ahmet Kara,Esma Konuk,Necdet Demir,Murat Ozturk,Sebla Calıskan,Deniz Ozlem Topdag,Arif Ulubil,Ibrahim Gurkan Keskin,Mete Iseri 대한이비인후과학회 2016 Clinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology Vol.9 No.1

Objectives. Healing processes of the nose and paranasal sinuses are quite complex, and poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to compare the effect of mucosal autologous grafts on the degenerated rabbit maxillary sinus mucosa with spontaneous wound healing. It is hypothesized that mucosal grafts will enhance ciliogenesis and improve the morphology of regenerated cilia. Methods. Ten female New Zealand rabbits were included in the study. They underwent external maxillary sinus surgery through a transcutaneous approach. A total of 20 maxillary sinuses were randomly divided into 2 groups: ‘spontaneous healing group’ and ‘autologous graft group.’ The animals were sacrificed at the 14th day after the surgery. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), and light microscope were used for the evaluation. Results. Cellular composition of the graft group is better than the spontaneous healing group. The graft group had larger areas covered with ciliary epithelium than the spontaneous healing group, and the mean length of the cilias were also longer. Additionally, there were wider cilia with abnormal morphology areas in the spontaneous healing group. Conclusion. In our opinion, covering of the denuded areas with a graft improves re-epithelization, and may prevent the early complications after sinus surgeries.
