      • Realization of a Metalized Gel Fuel Ramjet

        The high specific impulse of the ramjet engine, combined with the ability of a gel to carry metal particles, make the Gel Fuel Ramjet a most adequate solution for a mid-high range sustainer, The goal of the present study is to verify experimentally the feasibility of such a concept. A test facility and a lab-scale motor have been designed and built to investigate atomization, ignition and firing processes of a gel hydrocarbon fuel, with and without metal additives, as well as to check the ramjet operation as a whole. The present paper presents the experimental system in detail as well as qualitative results of a few firing tests.

        Assessment of Effects of a Cordia salicifolia Extract on the Radiolabeling of Blood Constituents and on the Morphology of Red Blood Cells

        Effects of a Cordia salicifolia (porangaba) extract on the labeling of blood cells (BCs) with technetium-99m (99mTc) and on the morphology of red BCs were evaluated. Labeling of cellular and molecular structures with 99mTc depends on a reducing agent. Some physical characteristics, as visible absorbance spectrum, electric conductivity, and refractive index of this porangaba extract, were also determined. Blood samples from Wistar rats were incubated with porangaba extract or with 0.9% NaCl (control). Labeling of blood constituents with 99mTc was performed. Plasma (P) and BCs, both soluble (SF-P and SF-BC) and insoluble (IF-P and IF-BC) fractions, were separated. The radioactivity in each fraction was counted, and the percentage of radioactivity incorporated (%ATI) was calculated. Blood smears were prepared, fixed, and stained, and the morphology of the red BCs was evaluated. Data showed an absorbance peak at 480 nm and electric conductibility and refractive index concentration-dependent. Porangaba extract decreased significantly (P < .05) the BC, IF-P, and IF-BC %ATI, and no modifications were verified on the shape of red BCs. Analysis of the results reveals that some physical parameters could be useful to aid in characterizing the extract studied. Moreover, it is possible that chemical compounds of this extract could have chelating/redox actions or be capable of binding to plasma and/or cellular proteins.

        Effect of Linear Chirp on Strong Field Photodissociation of H_2^+

        We report the experimental findings of a systematic study of the effect of the linear chirp on strong field photodissociation of H_2^+. For vibrational levels around or above the one photon crossing, the effect manifests in terms of a shift in the kinetic energy release (KER) peaks. The peaks shift up for negative chirp whereas they shift down for positive chirp. The measurements are carried out by varying two of the laser pulse characteristics energy, pulse intensity and linear chirp while keeping the third constant. The shifts in the KER peaks are found to be intensity dependent for a given value of chirp. However, in the last two cases, they are found to be independent of the chirp magnitude. The results are understood on the basis of saturation of photodissociation probabilities for these levels.

      • 공기가열히터와 모사추진제를 이용한 덕티드 로켓의 연소실험기법

        덕티드로켓 개발과정에서 검토해야 할 성능, 설계 변수를 도출하는데 유용한 모사 실험장치와 실험기법에 대해 기술하고, 유용성을 검토하였다. 고공 비행환경을 모사하기 위해 직접연결식(directconnect type) 실험장치를 구성하였으며, 실험장치는 연소식 공기가열히터, 연료농후가스를 생성하는 가스발생기, 실험 정밀도와 편의성을 제공하기 위한 모사추진제 공급장치, 직접연결식 공기공급장치, 고압으로 압축 저장된 공기를 블로우 다운(blow down) 방식으로 공급하기 위한 공기압축기와 고압용기로 구성된다. 고안된 실험장치와 실험기법은 덕티드로켓의 농후연소가스와 흡입공기 상호간의 공기-열역학적 특성 분석, 연소실 및 공기흡입구 형상설계에 유용하게 활용될 것으로 판단된다. The experimental methods to determine the design and performance parameters in the development process of a ducted rocket were described, and the availability of experimental setup and methods was examined. Experimental setup of the direct-connect type to simulate the flight conditions of the high speed and high altitude was developed. It is composed of vitiated air heater, gas generator, feeding system of propellant simulant, air feeding system using a direct-connect type, air compressor and high pressure tank to feed by the blow down method. Experimental setup and methods, which are presented in this study, can be effectively used for the analysis of aerothermodynamic characteristics on the interaction between fuel-rich exhaust gas and incoming air, and design of combustor and air inlet shapes.

        A coordination project for improvement of osteoporosis medication use among patients who sustained an osteoporotic fracture: The Israeli experience

        Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine whether coordination between healthcare providers at an inpatient rehabilitation facility and healthcare providers in a community setting improves osteoporosis medication use in the community. Methods: In 2012, a coordination project between an inpatient geriatric rehabilitation facility located in north-central Israel and general practitioners in the community setting was initiated. In this retrospective pseudo-experimental study, we compared osteoporosis medication use among patients who were hospitalized at the facility following an osteoporotic fracture during 2011e2012, and who constituted the control group (n¼120), and patients who were hospitalized at the facility during 2013e2015, and who constituted the trial group (n¼129). Data were collected from the patients' records and from records of the health maintenance organization concerning medications issued to the patients by pharmacies. Results: Differences were observed between the trial and the control group in osteoporosis medication management by healthcare providers, both at the inpatient rehabilitation facility and in the community, suggesting favorable trends. However, osteoporosis medication use in the community was slightly lower in the trial group, then in the control group (32.8% vs.34.2%, respectively).A regression analysis indicated that the only variable predicting use of osteoporosis medications in the community was a previous diagnosis of osteoporosis in the community. Conclusions: The study results indicate that mere coordination between the healthcare settings is insufficient in order to ensure continued care in the community, emphasizing the need for an osteoporosis coordinator.

        Population parameters and sustainable status of lompa fish Thryssa baelama (Forsskal, 1775) manage through sasi approach at Haruku Village

        The harvesting season of lompa fish, Thryssa baelama, through sasi, indigenous knowledge in resources management, in Haruku Village has become a socio-cultural event that attracts many people. The sasi of lompa fish has been conducted for hundreds of years. Information on the bioecology aspect of lompa fish is limited, while this information is crucial for lompa fish sustainability through the sasi approach. This study aimed to investigate some population parameters of lompa fish, its sustainability status, and proposed a sustainable management strategy for the lompa fishery of Haruku Village. Fish population parameter covers length-weight relationship, growth pattern, size distribution, sex ratio, and the body condition index. The sustainability status was assessed following the Rapfish approach. Fisheries management strategy was performed using a conceptual model framework based on Driver Pressure State Impact Response. The research shows that the total length varies between 9.2–14.3 cm. A high relationship was found between total length and weight, and the growth pattern was an allometric negative. There was a difference in sex ratio between males and females, with females dominant. The body condition index varies over time, probably due to reproductive status. The overall sustainability status was at fair condition (61.60%), with the ecological domain having the highest sustainable status (71.07%) and considered sustain. In comparison, the technological domain had the lowest sustainability status (52.58%) and was considered fair sustain. There were seven management strategies proposed for sustainable management for the lompa fishery.

        Immunoglobulin repletion during blinatumomab therapy does not reduce the rate of secondary hypogammaglobulinemia and associated infectious risk

        Background Blinatumomab has demonstrated efficacy in minimal residual disease (MRD) positive and relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) by inciting rapid and sustained B-cell depletion. Methods Owing to its effect on B-cells, blinatumomab is associated with a higher rate of secondary hypogammaglobulinemia compared to chemotherapy. To mitigate blinatumomab-induced hypogammaglobulinemia, patients were pre-emptively repleted with intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) during blinatumomab therapy. In this retrospective study, we compared outcomes of 23 blinatumomab treated adults with ALL. Seventeen patients routinely received IVIG and 6 patients were in the control cohort. Results Our findings demonstrated no difference between the two cohorts in immunoglobulin G (IgG) nadir (338 mg/dL vs. 337 mg/dL, P=0.641), days to IgG nadir (120.5 vs. 85.5 days, P =0.13), infection rate (82.4% vs. 66.7%, P=0.58), infections requiring ICU admission (23.5% vs. 16.7%, P=1), and infection related mortality (17.6% vs. 16.7%, P =1). Conclusion Pre-emptive IVIG repletion during blinatumomab did not prevent hypogammaglobulinemia and associated infection risk.

        Biological aspects of roundscads (Decapterus spp.) inhabiting the waters of Southeast Maluku, Eastern Indonesia

        This research was conducted at Langgur City, Southeast Maluku Regency, Maluku Province, Eastern Indonesia from November 2020 to February 2021 to study biological aspects of roundscads (Decapterus spp.) which consist of species composition, sex ratio, gonad maturation level, size distribution, length-weight relationship and condition factor. Samples were collected at traditional fish market in Langgur City. Fish samples collected at the market were put into cool box and then brought to the laboratory for further examination. Fish samples were identified, separated based on species, dissected to determine their sex and gonad maturation stage and then measured. Totally, there were 290 specimen collected which consist of five species namely Decapterus kurroides, D. macarellus, D. macrosoma, D. muroadsi and D. russelli. Sex ratio between male and female for all species showed 1:1. Gonad maturation level showed that stage I and II have higher percentage than stage III and IV indicates immature fish more dominant compare to mature one. Among five species found, D. macarellus has larger size while the smaller belongs to D. muroadsi. Results of length-weight relationship analysis showed that roundscads inhabiting Southeast Maluku waters have isometric and negative allometric growth pattern with relative condition factor around 1.00.

        Abnormal Bolus Reflux Is Associated With Poor Pulmonary Outcome in Patients With Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

        Background/Aims Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is postulated to play a role in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). However, the value of objective GER measures in predicting IPF disease progression is unclear. We aim to evaluate the association between objective GER measures on multichannel intraluminal impedance and pH (MII-pH) testing and development of poor pulmonary outcomes within 1 year in prelung transplant IPF patients. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study of adults with IPF who underwent pre-lung transplant evaluation with MII-pH off proton pump inhibitors (PPI) at a tertiary care center from June 2008 to November 2015. Patients were followed for 1 year from time of MII-pH for poor pulmonary outcomes, defined by hospitalization for respiratory exacerbation or death. Univariate, multivariate and time-to-event analyses were performed to assess associations between baseline GER parameters on MII-pH and poor outcomes. Results Eighty-four subjects (mean age 61.1 years, 64.3% male) were included. Subjects with increased bolus exposure time (BET) had a higher incidence of 1-year poor pulmonary outcome vs normal BET (45.7% vs 15.2%, P = 0.006). Increased BET remained an independent predictor of poor outcome after controlling for age, gender, body mass index, smoking, lung disease severity, and PPI use (OR, 4.18; P = 0.030). Increased BET was also predictive of decreased time to poor pulmonary outcome (hazard ratio [HR], 4.88; P = 0.007). Subgroup analyses showed that increased BET remained independently associated with time to pulmonary hospitalization (HR, 4.00; P = 0.020), with a trend for 1-year mortality (HR, 2.19; P = 0.380). Conclusion Increased BET on MII-pH is an independent predictor of poor pulmonary outcome over 1 year in IPF patients. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2018;24:395-402)
