Spore Shedding in Catenella impudica from the Godavari Estuary at Bhiravapalem, India

        Narasimha Rao, G. Mohan,Rangaiah, G. Subba,Dora, S. V. V. S. N. The Korean Society of Phycology 2008 ALGAE Vol.23 No.1

Catenella impudica (Mont.) J.Ag is an important species for human consumption from estuarine regions of Asia. Seasonal shedding of carpospores and tetraspores was quantified between January and December 2004 for natural populations of C. impudica. Vegetative and tetrasporophytic plants were available throughout the year but gametophytic plants were observed only from September to May. Tetraspore shedding was observed throughout the year and carpospores shedding was noticed only during the months when material was available. Hydrographical conditions of the estuary such as low water temperature and low salinity are correlated to the formation and release of carpospores and tetraspores in C.impudica

Treatment of millet crop plant (Sorghum bicolor) with the entomopathogenic fungus (Beauveria bassiana) to combat infestation by the stem borer, Chilo partellus Swinhoe (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)

        Narasimha P. Reddy,Akbar P. Ali Khan,Uma K. Devi,Hari C. Sharma,Annette Reineke 한국응용곤충학회 2009 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.12 No.4

Experiments were done to test if Beauveria bassiana can become an endophyte in sorghum and confer protection from stem borer. Four-week-old sorghum seedlings were treated with B. bassiana. The plants were examined for endophytic presence of B. bassiana, 30 and 60 days after treatment. Stem cultures from treated plants showed growth of B. bassiana. PCR amplification using fungal specific primers for a conserved region of β tubulin gene yielded identical 360 bp products from both B. bassiana and treated sorghum plants. In a subsequent experiment, B. bassiana treated and untreated (control) sorghum plants were artificially infested with stem borer (Chilo partellus) larvae 15 days post treatment and the extent of damage was compared. About 40% of the control plants developed dead heart while no plant in the B. bassiana treated plot did. In the surviving control plants, stem tunneling by shoot borer was significantly higher compared to B. bassiana treated sorghum plants. Performance of 4D-Var Data Assimilation on Extreme Snowfall Forecasts over the Western Himalaya Using WRF Model

        Narasimha Rao Nalamasu,M S Shekhar,GP Singh 한국기상학회 2021 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.57 No.3

The accurate predictions of extreme precipitation/snowfall events are very helpful in identifying the severe avalanche/landslide prone hazard areas in advance over high mountainous regions. The Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) version 3.9 has been used to investigate the performance of Four-Dimensional Variational data assimilation (4D-Var) on Three-Dimensional Variational data assimilation (3D-Var) by considering two extreme snowfall events (23–26 January 2017 and 05–08 February 2019) over the Western Himalaya (WH). The result shows that the 4D-Var performed better than the 3D-Var for both the events by analyzing domain-averaged error and sensitivity parameter analysis. The initial state model variable’s domain-averaged error analysis revealed that 4D-Var has great potential to improve the initial conditions than the 3D-Var from lower to the upper atmosphere. Sensitivity parameter analysis also supports 4D-Var has more sensitive than the 3D-var especially in the lower and upper atmosphere by changing temperature and moisture fields along with winds circulations. From statistical skill scores analysis, 4D-Var performed well to reproduce the extreme snowfall events than the 3D-Var over WH.

        Not Separate but Unequal

Narasimha Rao Kowtha 숙명여자대학교 아시아여성연구원 2013 Asian Women Vol.29 No.1

In Asia, where increasing numbers of women have been entering the workforce in recent decades, gender inequality in terms of career progression seems to be particularly prevalent. Although many studies have investigated the impact of issues such as occupational gender typing, tokenism, and pay inequity on Asian women at the workplace, the role of the individual’s early career experiences in organizations has received little attention. Organizational socialization forms a significant part of the individual’s early work experiences, and socialization can set the tone for the individual’s progress through the organization and career. This paper addresses two questions pertaining to organizational socialization and gender in the Asian context. First, the study investigated if female newcomers to organizations receive the same amount of socializing influences as their male counterparts. Secondly, the study investigated the moderating effect of gender on socialization practices and socialization outcomes. The study was conducted using a sample of business graduates of an Asian university. Results show that female newcomers receive less social support and mentoring in the form of social tactics than their male counterparts. Results also show that gender moderates the effects of socialization tactics on role outcomes. Female newcomers tend to benefit more through the mentoring and interaction provided through social tactics while male newcomers seem to benefit from structured learning.

LARGE SCALE MAGNETIC FIELDS IN LENS GALAXIES

NARASIMHA D.,CHITRE S. M. The Korean Astronomical Society 2004 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.37 No.5

Differential Faraday Rotation measurements between the images of same background source, of multiply-imaged gravitational lens systems can be effectively used to provide a valuable probe to establish the existence of large-scale ordered magnetic fields in lensing galaxies as well as galaxy clusters. Estimates of the magnetic field in lens galaxies, based on the radio polarization measurements do not appear to show any clear evidence for evolution with redhsift of the coherent large scale magnetic field between redshift of 0.9 and the present epoch. However, our method clearly establishes the presence of coherent large scale magnetic field in giant ellitpical galaxies.

      • DNA Repair Gene Polymorphisms at XRCC1, XRCC3, XPD, and OGG1 Loci in the Hyderabad Population of India

Parine, Narasimha Reddy,Pathan, Akbar Ali Khan,Bobbarala, Varaprasad,Abduljaleel, Zainularifeen,Khan, Wajahatullah,Alanazi, Mohammed Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.12

Background: DNA repair is one of the crucial defense mechanism against mutagenic exposure. Inherited SNPs of DNA repair genes may contribute to variation in DNA repair capacity and susceptibility to cancer. Due to the presence of these variants, inter-individual and ethnic differences in DNA repair capacity have been established in various populations. India harbors enormous genetic and cultural diversity. Materials and Methods: In the present study we aimed to determine the genotypes and allele frequencies of XRCC1 Arg399Gln (rs25487), XRCC3 Thr241Met (rs861539), XPD Lys751Gln (rs13181), and OGG1 Ser326Cys (rs1052133) gene polymorphisms in 186 healthy individuals residing in the Hyderabad region of India and to compare them with HapMap and other populations. Results and Conclusions: The genotype and allele frequency distribution at the four DNA repair gene loci among Hyderabad population of India revealed a characteristic pattern. Comparison of these gene polymorphisms with other populations revealed a distinctiveness of Hyderabad population from the Deccan region of India. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of such DNA repair gene polymorphisms in the Deccan Indian population.

Rheological properties of washed and unwashed tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) fish meat: effect of sucrose and sorbitol

Lakshmi Narasimha Murthy,Girija Gajanan Phadke,Vijayakumar Siddaiah,Rajanna Karani Boraiah 한국식품과학회 2017 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.26 No.5

In the present study, the dynamic viscoelastic behavior (DVB) and flow behavior of fresh tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) meat containing cryoprotectants were evaluated with and without water washing. The DVB profile of washed meat with 4% sucrose and sorbitol indicated the maximum structure buildup reaction up to 56.8 C; thereafter, hydrophobic interactions leading to decreased gelation were suppressed. In both the samples, there was no clear indication of the sol–gel transition temperature. In flow-profile measurements, the presence of cryoprotectants gave rise to the minimum thixotropic area, indicating a low level of impairment in structure. The shear-stress sweep of water-washed tilapia proteins added with cryoprotectants did not reveal significant changes at 28 and 40 C. In texture-profile analysis, the hardness values were lower in fresh meat than cooked meat. The findings of this study will be helpful in the formulation and design of various mince-based products and in determining the appropriate use of cryoprotectants and water washing in the processing of minced meat.

Characterization of degradation products of the Balsalazide by Mass spectrometry: Optimization of stability-indicating HPLC method for separation and quantification of process related impurities of Balsalazide

        Chilakabattina Naga Narasimha Babu,Ch. Srinivasa Reddy,Bhagya Kumar Tatavarti,M. Radha Madhavi,Venkateswara Rao Anna 한국분석과학회 2024 분석과학 Vol.37 No.1

The study aimed to investigate a novel approach by utilizing liquid chromatography (LC) and liquidchromatography-mass spectrometry (LC–MS) to separate, identify and characterize very nominal quantities ofdegradation products (DPs) of balsalazide along with its process related impurities without isolation from theirreaction mixtures. The impurities along with balsalazide were resolved on spherisorb ODS2 (250×4.6 mm, 5.0 μm)column at room temperature using 0.2 M sodium acetate solution at pH 4.5 and methanol in the ratio of 55:45(v/v) as mobile phase pumped isocratically at 1.0 mL/min as mobile phase and UV detection at 255 nm. Themethod shows sensitive detection limit of 0.003 μg/mL, 0.015 μg/mL and 0.009 μg/mL respectively for impurity1, 2 and 3 with calibration curve liner in the range of 50-300 μg/mL for balsalazide and 0.05-0.30 for itsimpurities. The balsalazide pure compound was subjected to stress studies and a total of four degradation products(DPs) were formed during the stress study and all the DPs were characterized with the help of their fragmentationpattern and the masses obtained upon LC–MS/MS. The DPs were identified as 3-({4-[(E)-(4-hydroxyphenyl)diazenyl]benzoyl}amino)propanoic acid (DP 1), 4-[(E)-(4-hydroxyphenyl)diazenyl] benzamide (DP 2), 5-[(E)-(4-carbamoylphenyl)diazenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoic acid (DP 3) and 3-({4-[(E)-phenyldiazenyl]benzoyl}amino)propanoicacid (DP 4). Based on findings, it was concluded that, the proposed method was successfully applicable forroutine analysis of balsalazide and its process related impurities in pure drug and formulations and also applicablefor identification of known and unknown impurities of balsalazide.
